TheGarmentFactory's Profile

Bio

The Garment Factory is located in Louisville, Kentucky; but, has its origins in an old red brick schoolhouse located on the banks of the Kentucky River in Frankfort. Mrs. Alma Johnson, my sixth grade teacher there, used to shout at us if we did not do our work we would end up in the garment factory.

I went on to earn an advanced degee, but could never get away from Mrs. Johnson's dare, that I could work at the garment factory. Something about spending my days with brightly colored textiles and a needle seemed creative, honest and wholesome to me.

My grandmother, Ethel, was an amazing seamstress. I learned to sew at her knee when I was a child. Later I taught myself to knit. I've been unstoppable ever since.

I guess dear old Mrs. Johnson inspired me in a quite unintended way!

All garments made at The Garment Factory are hand knit or sewn by me. The Garment Factory is smoke free. The Garment Factory is home to Bubba, the incredible cat who has been 10 years old for at least 12 years.
