I live in NYC with my glorious boyfriend, Tim. My daughter, Mykel is a Sophomore in College at Iowa State University - go Cyclones!

Now, just for fun, here are a few of my favorite sewing & notion stores:

1. Crazy fabric/notions/thread store - I don't know the name of it, but it is just south of Canal street on Broadway - right where Lepsinard street comes out from the Pearl Paint craft and framing stores. Cash only - you will have to rifle through bins and card catalog files of embroidery floss but it is super cheap. I am available for field trips.

2. Purl Soho (Purl Patchwork) - you may have been to their sister store right up the block, Purl Soho. This is the fabric/notions twin. The fabric can be super expensive, as can everything in Soho, but if you need a pack of needles and some thread, you will find it here - Ask for Carly, she is a fine, Iowa gal that is very helpful. Sullivan Street - between Houston and Prince - closer to Houston on the East side of the street.

3. Sew Fast Sew Easy. This is a hole-in-the-wall store near Macy's. However, they have got the stuff. Needles, thread, embroidery floss, poly-fil, sewing machines, patterns and they even teach sewing classes. There is supposedly a "cafe" there but one must have to utter the secret elvish password for a magical door to open. 147 W. 35th Street - 8th floor. website: www.sewfastseweasy.com.

I am an Iowa farm girl. Well, I was. I am now a New Yorker. My designs come from my genes - from the quilters, sew'ers, fur tailors and gypsies in my blood-line. But, with my acquired urban slant - comfy cotton pillows with clean, defined designs, natural linen totes fashioned to fit the NYC streets - or Main Street for that matter. What purple & gold tapestry pillow doesn't need a hand stitched brassiere applique on it? Come look at my shop, enjoy the designs.
