Bio

I was born in 1955 in Nottingham. I have always enjoyed drawing and painting, but didn't take it up seriously until I was in my early 30's. I attended a local evening class and was very fortunate to find a very good and patient teacher. I joined a couple of local art groups and gradually developed my style and interests.

In my work I paint mostly landscapes and seascapes in pastels, acrylics and watercolour. Through the medium of my art, I try to express the particular mood or feeling that these subjects evoke. I have a love of coastal areas particularly the Suffolk and Essex coast and I enjoy the challenge of capturing the light and atmosphere of that part of the country.

I find that as my painting develops I am using more of an impressionistic approach. I use the paint to suggest shapes and forms rather than explicitly describing them. This hopefully engages the viewer more as they make their own interpretation of what is there.

I work mostly from sketches and photographs but I also like to paint in the landscape itself.

Other subjects I enjoy painting are flowers in their natural surroundings and in my garden, still lifes and interiors.

At the moment I paint in my spare time, but I hope one day to be able to work at my art full time. Presenting and selling my work online is part of this challenge. It gives me a chance to show my work to a wide audience.
