Bio

Hello, Etsians.

Between working and studying, I make things whenever I can, as much as I can. One day soon, I will be a rich and famous public school art teacher. My current full-time job instills within me the patience I will need as a public school teacher. I am fueled by a need to create and lots and lots of coffee.

Oh, and I blog about it all at http://meristemstudio.com.

Ok, now the official word...

A native of Ohio, Monique Phillips has lived in the Washington, DC metro area since 1995. After studying fine art at the University of Maryland, she is continuing her studies in art education in the hopes of being a rich and famous public school art teacher.

While her training in arts education requires a diverse knowledge of the arts, she divides her studio work between painting and printmaking, photography, and ceramics. In each, she consistently explores the organic textures and forms found in the natural world.

“My work is as much about a desire to find and create beauty in tiny pockets of our world as it is a need to explore things we keep hidden. Regardless of media, I am inspired by organic form, natural and simple beauty, and the inevitable mortality of things we hold dear.”

Monique's work has recently been shown in galleries and at special events throughout Maryland and Washington, DC.
