Bio

Anitra Cameron had the good fortune to be born into a family where creativity ran rampant. Her father has authored several books and worked as a portrait photographer. Her mother hand-painted the portraits Anitra’s father took, could sew anything she could visualize, and was constantly creating something beautiful for the family home. Anitra also has fond memories of the bedroom her Mom and Aunt Jewel built from what had been a back porch chicken coop!

Anitra’s grandfather was also a photographer, and all of her siblings have grown up with cameras to their eyes, and pens in their hands. The tradition continues; nearly all her kids and those of her brothers are writers, photographers, or both, with other interests thrown in apparently at random.

Anitra grew up believing in personal creativity as a condition of being human, rather like the ability to think. Living, in and of itself, is a creative act, so to her there are no people who aren’t creative, though some may not have realized it.

Coffee Pot People came to life as the result of an estate sale find. An upside-down coffee pot revealed an obvious nose. Nothing would do after that but to take it home and find the rest of its face. Several dozen individuals later, Anitra still delights in finding the upside-down personalities inside coffee pots, and letting them tell her who and what they are, which goes into their bios.

Anitra’s other art, China Blossoms, Wallpaper Stationary, Belt Loop Baubles, and Flower Portraits, spring from the joy of turning the unnoticed and unappreciated into objects that draw the eye and enchant the heart.
