affixment's Profile

Bio

We are two gals who originally met in Bozeman, MT and now we live and make art together in Portland, OR. We formed a friendship around our interests for the strange, eclectic and beautiful natural world. Our quirky and eccentric sense of humor often shows up in our pieces. We also have a side of our style that is simply celebrating the beauty of the natural world through our sense of design and composition .What you can expect from us is the unexpected! Our goal as artists, both separately and together, has been to share that beauty and humor with everyone else.

Our jewelry is a collaboration of our two backgrounds and reflects our shared fascination with vintage, historical, and natural artifacts. We use imagery that has been gleaned from the dusty corners of tiny used bookshops or purchased in a box of miscellaneous relics from an estate sale. Found organic materials are also used in unique ways. Most importantly we have been able to implement our fine art into the pieces. Photographs, drawings, paintings and prints are often mediums we embed.

Check in with us often, as we are always exploring new ideas. We also are open to custom orders. Go to our contact page and e-mail us with any ideas or comments. We will get back to you, and consult you in the direction to go to get the piece you desire!

Peace and happy exploration!

Jen Smith- BFA: Fine Art with an emphasis in Drawing & Painting, Minor in Art History.

Hailing from the wide expanses of Montana and Wyoming, Jen has found her way to the Pacific Northwest!

Growing up with a family that spent a great deal of time outdoors sparked her interest in the natural world. Having drawn since before she could walk, she spent most of her time creating art. If she was not sketching she was spending countless hours outside gathering bones, rocks, wood and anything that caught her curiosity.

Living in Portland Oregon has fed her adventurous nature. Not a day goes by in this a unusual, and beautiful town that she is not finding herself inspired on some level. It could be the abundance of botanicals, or the dark little novelty shops that have her loosing track of time and packing goodies home in her pockets.

Jen enjoys a home studio where she explores and experiments with painting, drawing and printmaking. Affixment has its own working studio were she can bring all elements into play. Resin casting has been an interesting incorporation of her hunter/gatherer lust and her desire to implement her drawing and painting into a wearable piece of art.

Jen has two grown children Lindsey Saunders who is an amazing artist and talented soccer player. She has a BFA from University of Great Falls Mt. and lives in Portland Oregon. Jack Saunders who lives in Bozeman Montana, works for the ski patrol at Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Montana. A wonderful artist himself and wood worker, Jack built a 19 foot cedar kayak his senior year of high school. Both her children share her love of art and the great outdoors.

Polly Linn- BFA:Silversmithing BA:Photography Minor: Art History

Polly has always been fascinated with wearable art and she has always wanted to explore wearing any number of unusual things that catch her interest.

Resin casting started for Polly as a way to capture the beauty of a ladybug in a ring. It has become a great vehicle to explore her silversmithing and also her other love, photography. Her background as a silversmith allows her to create pieces that are beautiful and artistic as well as durable and functional. Polly believes that her deep interest in her environment, has added a unique element of expression to the pieces.

Having grown up in Wyoming and lived around the Yellowstone area, Polly's sense of her surroundings is evident in her style. Many of the pieces will be showcasing her photo work in these regions.

Polly lives in Portland Oregon with her 3 1/2 year old son Oscar. She is also a working silversmith and a full time single parent. Photography is one of her greatest loves and she is currently working on a series of hand portraits....maybe we will see them in resin!

"The fun and intriguing aspect of this art form is that we can do almost any type of imagery. This opens up so many avenues for us as curious exploratory artists. "
