Violet Star Creations is a one-woman business owned and operated by me, Rowan Leithauser. Everything you see here has been handmade with my own two hands and is totally sweat shop free. I started Violet Star Creations in 2001 after spending some time doing volunteer work at my local Salvation Army Thrift Store and being appalled at the amount of perfectly good clothing and fabric that was thrown away every day. As they say, one woman's trash is another woman's treasure, and so I started taking home boxes of stuff everyday to save it from going to the dump and would cut it up and turn it into brand new garments. Since then, I have added a line of natural and organic clothing and accessories which I hand-dye using low-impact dyes, as well as a line of hand crocheted natural fiber hats, scraves, and arm warmers. I am currently working on a line of naturally dyed clothing as well using black walnut hulls. I believe that if we take care of the earth, the earth will take care of us and try to run my life and my business accordingly. I strive to minimize waste in all areas of my business. This means that when dying I dye everything in small batches and try to use everything down to the last drop.
