History:

I grew up in a household where "family activities" generally meant a trip to the flea market or working together to refinish an old oak chest-of-drawers.

Since before I was in big girl pants, my mother was running a booth at an antique mall, and I was always somehow involved in her plight.

I might also mention that my mother had me when she was 42... and I have 3 siblings who are all atleast 14 years older than I am. When they left for college, I inherited all their old records, maxi dresses, 8 track tapes, platform shoes and sad-eye wall hangings. The vintage styles permeated my being. I got picked on in elementary school to say the least.

I absorbed the 80s, of course. And as a teenager in the 90s, well... I wafted through those days.

I found myself majoring in costume design in college where I perfected and harvested those sewing skills my mother had been instilling in me.

Out of college I worked for a consignment store where it was my job to know about brands (both new and old) so that I could value them.

From studying costumes and fashion history, and from learning the fine ins and outs of valuing used clothing, I have grown a fond appreciation for valuing older clothing.

I'm totally nerdy about all these things (it's a good thing), and so I'm really excited to research and present any info I can about a vintage item.

If I were a buyer of vintage wares, I'd want to know as much as I could! I think it enhances the subject matter, don't you?

But even if you're just looking for "pretty old stuff" and don't care about the details, that's alright too because I would never feature something here that I wouldn't wear or own myself... and I'm a fairly stylish and picky girl if I do say so myself.

So whether your joy is in the value of the history and information about the item, or whether you just love the look and the style of the item... or maybe you appreciate both qualities equally...there is something here for you! :)
