Bio

I am a Louisiana photographer living and working in the Midwest, and my work explores societal norms and gender roles as influenced by childhood literature - specifically fairy tales. I hold undergraduate and graduate degrees in Visual Art Photography; a Bachelor of Art in Visual Art Photography from McNeese State University in 2003 and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2008. I am an award-winning and heavily exhibited artist, and my work has been seen across the country in PhotoMidwest: The Seven State Exhibition, TPS15:The National Competition, the Monmouth Museum’s Juried Photography Invitational Exhibition, and The Artist Project in Chicago, to name a few. Selected work is currently on exhibition at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kiev, Ukraine. A solo exhibition at the Swope Art Museum in Terre Haute, IN is planned for 2011.

Publications include Circus World: Photographers Under The Big Top and Visceral Mappings: Transdiasporic Art Practices. I currently teach art photography at the University of Wisconsin.

New series include Any Child Born, an exploration of femininity, infertility and motherhood in fairy tales, and We Are Not Born Women, a photographic study of the tools and trappings of femininity.
