faeriebuzz's Profile

Bio

hello! my name is nicole; i am designer, seamstress (along with my mom), glassblower and webmistress for faeriebuzz.com.

taught by bertha, my amazingly talented grandmother, i learned to sew at an early age. however, i only started creating in earnest in the 1990s as a way to fund travel from one grateful dead show to the next. i expanded my base to the parking lots of a variety of other bands and set up shop at a number of festivals before finally creating a web presence in 2002. not all my sewing has been done independently; i once worked for a company making concert curtains and stage backdrops. i also spent some time as head seamstress for a designer in colorado -- stitching all custom orders and sample lines as well as sewing literal hundreds of garments for the 'coldwater creek' catalog. it was at this job that i learned much about garment construction and professional sewing techniques.

a search for glass buttons to incorporate in fabric crafts led me, in 2000, to an apprenticeship in a boulder, colorado studio and ignited a passion for lampworking. since then, i built my own little shop at home and experimented with a variety of coloring and shaping techniques, creating mostly pendants and jars

i currently live in alaska and work full-time as an x-ray technologist.
