Bio

Hello, my name is Mars.
I was born in Taiwan, and studied in Vancouver, Canada. Have been traveling around countries and making Shanghai the city to stay since year 2001.

Majored in Fine Art. Specialized in printmaking and oil painting at college. After graduated, I worked in many different fields (F/X make-up for film/ IT/ design and etc..). With all the experiences, I found my strong passion back to art and prefer ceramic as the material to express it.

Right now I am a full time Ceramic Artist for my own Sweet Object and taking care of all details: from design to every hands-on step and to the final packaging.

2/3 time of a year I stay in JingDeZhen (the Porcelain Town) and I have few master workers assist me in the studio while working on oversized or repeating pieces.

I love things can inspire our-lives or make me smile. And I also love to see how much possibility that I can do with clay. I would like to make objects that are great to look everyday and appealing to use.

About ceramic, I learned the skill around 15 years ago with few masters. After then, I was on my own to practice and play. And I am still learning. It is very difficult to create new shapes and color glazes when comes to the high fire (over 1300 degrees Centigrade). Any little thing could ruin the piece and a lot of elements are out of our hands.

Until now, experiment new things cost me a lot of time and money. 70~80% of the results are failed. I should say that most of my time and efforts are spent on repeating the very same process overly.
But it never stops me. Opening the kiln is the most exciting moment. No matter what the result is, it always inspires me with something I’ve never expected.
