welcome to madame joy.

i'm the product of a mother who (against my will) routinely made me skip school to go for a walk in the woods on a nice day, and a dad who's a welder by trade and artist at heart. i'm a midwesterner from central illinois and spent a few years in D.C. working on issues surrounding development, poverty and the environment. i've now moved to new york for graduate studies in urban and environmental planning (but play in my studio in my free time).

i've been playing with beads since i was a kid and playing with torches, metals and noxious chemicals in more recent years. while i haven't blown up my house yet, the experimenting of late has been quite entertaining and resulted in the pieces here in my etsy shop.
