Sterling silver earrings with white freshwater pearls set in round pods.

From our 'Pearl Pod' series, inspired by oak leaf galls. (See fourth photo.) The pods began their life as orbs that grow on oak tree leaves. We took the galls off the leaf and cut them open in the front, cleaned them out, and placed a cup inside each to seat the freshwater pearls. We then made molds of each pod, and transformed them into sterling silver using lost wax casting technology.

Wild Rose Twig Earrings - Sterling Silver

Less than a mile from our house there is a beautiful grassy park surrounded by trees and shrubs. The border foliage is a combination of wild roses, plum trees and cherry trees. These earrings are made from the early spring shoots of the wild rose plants. The twigs with the most character are the gnarly ones that have several years of growth rings.

Photos of this product will be sent to residents living around the park. This may help explain why a grown man spent three days in the pouring rain, crawling through the rose bushes, looking for perfect specimens. This should keep me from being locked up for my own protection.

Each earring is made from three twig segments connected together with tiny rings. This gives the earrings a flexible, swaying look as they dangle freely.

FOSSIL DISCOVERY HIGHLIGHTS C. REX'S UNIQUE EGG INCUBATION

London - According to an article published May 2008 in Scientific Monthly, the most complete fossil of Commenticius Rex was recently discovered in Henan Province, China. On January 4 2009, Professor Daryl McKinley spoke in London at a gathering of experts regarding the significance of this most recent find.

According to Professor McKinley, this recent discovery of intact fossil eggs confirms that C. Rex did, in fact, incubate a group of smaller eggs within an outer 'feeding egg'. The inner cluster of eggs received their nourishment from a central yolk through a matrix of vein-like structures within the feeding shell.

The fossil, on display in Dorchester, UK, has four eggs preserved in near perfect condition. It was suggested at an earlier meeting that one of the inner eggs be dissected to study more about the mechanisms of the unique yolk-sharing behavior of C. Rex. Professor Paul Simons the leader of the initial expedition offered the comment, "If you break open one of these perfect specimens, I will break open your heads, you miserable gits". Enthusiasm for the dissection seemed to wane at later meetings.

The outer shell has the hardness and composition of sterling silver, which, at the time of hatching, accounts for nearly 1/4 of the mother's mass. When this was reported at the London meeting, gasps could be heard from several of the female scientists on hand.

This recent find has added to our existing body of knowledge regarding C. Rex. A fragment found in Tunisia in 1997 confirmed that C. Rex had an average IQ of 124, could recite two thirds of Shakespeare's future works, but could not pronounce the word 'gerbil'. This latest discovery, however, calls into question earlier assertions that C. Rex knew the sound made by 'one hand clapping'.
