Wren Nest Necklace

Hop, hop, hop along. This energetic bird is known by everyone and some even share their homes with it. The wren makes its nest in any cavity around a house, along the eaves or in a hanging plant.
Its shape is well known, perched on a branch, it sticks its tail feathers high into the air.
The young will begin to follow the parents around a couple weeks past hatching, jumping from branch to branch.

In this necklace, the basket is woven with sterling wire upon which the rhodonite beads are strung and then nestled inside.

Each nest is handmade and will vary slightly.
The fourth picture is of multiple nests available for sale in my shop.

Specifications: The pendant is approximately .75 in diameter and the sterling chain is 16 in long. (The chain can be customized up to 20 inches at no additional charge.)

The faux stone has been shaped out of polymer clay to resemble a basalt pebble and set into the sterling silver pendant. A tiny tuft of faux moss springs forth from a sterling bezel cup within the clay. The moss is made of latex sprouts backed with foam.

A pair of bluebirds painstakingly chose the perfect spot to build their nest. Soon, the fledglings will hatch and the young ones will need to take their first flying lesson.

These imitation turquoise beads are nestled inside a basket woven with sterling wire.

Nothing speaks of solitude like the silhouette of a Great Blue Heron standing in the shallow water.

A bird of large stature, the Great Blue Heron has a grayish-blue body with streaks on its head and neck. It builds large nests of sticks in the trees or bushes near the water where it lives. Most prefer to hunt for food alone and will aggressively defend their territory. Parents take turns sitting on the eggs to keep them warm and care for their chicks in the nest for almost two months before teaching them to fly.

Perched upon a branch above the water, this little guy is waiting for his lunch. Upon spotting his prey, he will dive into the water below and then return to the branch to feast on his catch.

This collage pendant is one of my series, The World of Birds.
The image is set into a silver pendant and sealed under a glassy clear resin.

Specifications:
The silver plated pendant is 22 by 40mm. It is twice as deep as my other sterling pendants (about 6mm deep) and the depth and clarity of the piece really makes it pop. Layers of resin separate the collage elements so that the bird sits well in front of the background.

Great Egret Nest Necklace

The large white bird can be found typically wading in the water where it feeds by spearing with its long bill. Once prized for its plumage for use in women's apparel, the great egret's population is now protected. You can spot the characteristic retracted S-shape neck in flight. Nests are typically built high up in the trees, but can occasionally be found amongst the cattails as well.
Males begin the nest building and then bring twigs to the female so she can finish it. After hatching, baby birds are somewhat helpless and don't begin flying lessons for at least a month after birth.

The crow has landed again. This time in Riomaggiore, the southern most village of the Cinque Terra along the Italian coast. He sits on a telephone wire which are outnumbered by clotheslines in this quaint hillside town.

Choose from 2, 3, or 4 eggs to fill the nest.

Choose what kind of bird most represents you or your mom: Bluebird, Goldfinch, Robin or Quail.

When you purchase your nest, simply enter what number of eggs and what type of bird in the "Message to Seller" section.

Robin: Robins are dapper birds, dressed stylishly in their bright red vests. They have a cheery demeanor and a recognizable song, singing the most just before their eggs hatch. Robins are very protective and caring mothers, spending every waking moment with their young as they grow from hatchling to fledgling.

Bluebird: Small and dainty bird. These delightful songbirds stay close to home, hunting for food in close proximity to nest. Bluebirds rely upon the surrounding community for protection and comfort. Mothers spend a great deal of energy caring for their eggs and young.

Goldfinch: Goldfinches migrate to Mexico for the winter and return in May, welcoming spring with their call. Known for their bright colors and exuberant calls, goldfinches exhibit the typical roller-coaster finch flight style.* Young are dependent upon parents, even for a time after leaving the nest.

Quail: Spending most of their time on the ground, quail are known as the skittish type. However, they are also curious and will investigate mimicking calls. Quails are always well dressed with fanciful plumage. Chicks are particularly precocious and will begin running around, right out of the shell.*

The pendant is comprised of one nest on a chain. The nest itself is 1/2-5/8" diameter and the sterling dap and bar chain is 16" long.

The female goldfinch builds her nest from vines and grasses, using spider and caterpillar webs to keep it together. She lines it with plant down to cushion and to help incubate her eggs.

Specifications: The beads are freshwater pearls woven into a nest of fine silver wire. The pendant is approximately 5/8 in diameter and the sterling dapped and bar and link chain is 16 inches long. (18 inch or longer available upon request)

Quails Nest Necklace

First time quail parents search high and low for a suitable nest site. They often make them underneath cacti or dense underbrush to protect their little ones from the dangers that nest built on the ground pose. The spots on the eggs help to camouflage them from dangerous predators. After hatching, the tiny fuzzy chicks will be running around on the ground for their first three weeks and so need a safe space to hide.

These speckled eggs are dalmatian jasper beads that are nestled inside a basket woven with sterling wire.

Specifications: The pendant is approximately 7/8 in diameter and the sterling dapped bar and link chain is 16 inches long. 18-20 inches available upon request.

Each nest is handmade and will vary slightly. Each one is made to order and will be created especially for you.

A little clump of faux moss has been planted atop this ring.
Easy to care for as this moss has no need for sunlight or water!

Specifications:
A hand-cut piece of faux moss made of latex sprouts backed with foam has been "planted" into the bezel setting of this silver-plated pendant. Color of moss may varies and may appear lighter or darker green than pictured.

This little Wagtail is a star quality athlete. His long legs give him an advantage when running and he sports a long straight tail that wags up and down. Unfortunately, he is currently in rehabilitation for his injured tail. With some rest, he will soon be back in the races!

This is one of a series of three photographs that I culled from a trunk of images in an antique store in northern Wisconsin. The second is a detail of the bride Grace's face while the third shows her leaning against a tree with her arm outstretched.

The image is set into a sterling silver pendant and sealed under a glassy clear resin. Reminiscent of Victorian picture jewelry, this delicate piece is a tiny framed portrait to wear.

Specifications:
The sterling pendant is 10 x 14mm in diameter with a jade bead accent. The included dapped bar and link sterling silver chain is 16" long.
