Over a year ago I started a series of small chasings, all based off the same sketch of two English Ivy leaves. After I finished them all, I put them together in a series of small wallpieces- all very textural and landscape influenced.

This piece has a strong intimate beauty to it and will make a bold statement on your walk. This piece is signed with my initials and the year on the back.

The negative space, the open linear area behind the chasing reminds me of how the rushing water carved away and re-shaped so much of the nearby land.

The author is an accomplished metalsmith and silversmith, working from jewelry and holloware up to very large relief panels in steel and copper. In addition to chasing and repoussé he also covers quite a few metal holloware forming techniques such as raising, sinking, annealing and patina.

This is a leafy bronze brooch with a blue green patina over an antiqued surface. Each leaf is sawn and hammered individually. Every piece of my leafy jewelry is completely one of a kind.

This brooch measures approximately 3 x 2-1/2 inches or 8 x 7 cm at maximum dimensions. The brooch is sealed with tung oil varnish to slow down the natural aging process.

I was working on a steel bamboo railing commission in 2007 for a private client. The project turned out so beautiful that it inspired me to make a series of metal bamboo wall art. The entire series, and other work, traveled to two exhibits in 2008.

This asymetrical wallpiece measures approximately 20 inches tall by 15 inches wide, at its longest and widest points. There is a hanging loop on the back. It will hang at an angle on the wall, using that loop. You can also arrange it at your own preferred angle using several nails or screws at various points around the piece.

The wallpiece is coated with tung oil varnish and is suitable for interior display.

Wrought Iron Grapevine Candleholder - On Sale Half Price

The grapevine symbolizes growth, prosperity and abundance.

The wild grapevines on our own property inspired this piece. I handforge each of the grape leaves and hammer the vine from sheetmetal. The sheet metal wraps around into an organic hollow vine form. I weld it all together and add the candlecup. The steel has its natural heat colors. I burnish the piece to a nice silvery and black finish and seal it with a light acrylic coating for interior use.

This handforged candleholder is designed to hold one standard taper candle. It measures approximately 7-1/2 x 6 inches or 19 x 16cm at its maximum dimensions.

Wrought Iron Bamboo Leaf Cluster

I created these wrought iron bamboo leaf clusters while working out designs for a metal bamboo commission. I had plenty of leaves left over to play with and came up with some lovely combinations.

I hot forge all of the leaves from steel bar, weld them together, then burnish them to a rich luster. They are sealed with tung oil varnish for interior display. Hang them on the wall with several strategically placed nails or lay them on a table or shelf as sculpture.

This piece measures 11 x 8-1/4 inches or 27cm x 21cm at its maximum dimensions.

English Ivy No. 2 - chasing and repousse art for the wall

Over a year ago I started a series of small chasings, all based off the same sketch of two English Ivy leaves. After I finished them all, I put them together in a series of small wallpieces- all very textural and landscape influenced.

This piece is the 2nd of the series, one chasing, mounted on a steel frame, like a little block. It's a strong and simple piece, small and enchanting. It hangs on the wall easily by a nail or hook and may also be displayed on a shelf or tabletop. This piece is signed with my initials and the year on the back.

Leafing Out -a lightweight steel art wallpiece

An elegant one of a kind wallpiece, showing a branch leafing out in the spring. Although it looks quite heavy, it's handforged and fabricated from sheet steel, making it surprisingly lightweight. At its maximum dimensions, it measures approximately 36 inches wide, by 24 inches high, by six inches in depth. The piece is sealed with tung oil varnish, for interior use.

For hanging, it requires about 2 medium nails, placed so that the Vs of the branch hang on the nails, in the position that you prefer. It weighs less than 5 pounds, so should hang easily.

The second photo shows the piece on a wall as part of a shop display. None of the other pieces are included.

The total price includes shipping, shipping insurance and crating. If you live close enough to pick it up, you may convo me for a reduced price. Due to shipping issues, I have only marked this for shipping within the USA.

Bas-Relief Eagle in Solid Bronze - Art for the Wall

This is my original bas-relief image of an eagle in solid bronze, created with the techniques of chasing and repoussé. The bald eagles of the Upper Mississippi River Valley in Wisconsin inspired this piece.

Repoussé and Chasing are ancient metalsmithing techniques that have developed in several different regions, including Japan, Europe, and parts of Asia. Repoussé generally refers to work that is hammered from the back. Chasing refers to the work done from the front with smaller chisel like tools. Most pieces will use a combination of both techniques and often the two terms, “repoussé” and “chasing”, are used interchangeably.

The techniques can be used in many different ways- from the creation of slightly domed images, to simple texture, to the creation of highly detailed images. My own work finds its origin in the Japanese process of high relief chasing. This work is shaped primarily from the front, and is characterized by very lifelike detail and extreme shifts in elevations over the surface of the design.

I use these techniques in copper, bronze, brass, silver, gold and steel. The metal thickness measures from .040 - .045 inches. This thickness, combined with the metalforming processes creates a very strong and durable relief image.

The Eagle wallpiece measures 9-1/2 x 4 x 5/8 inches or 25 x 10 x 1.7cm. It hangs on the wall from a bronze loop welded to the back and is signed with my initials and the year it was made.
