This piece is based on an old World War II era poster that was issued by the British government. During wartime, it was important to try to keep the public informed, and as free from panic as possible. The original poster read: "Keep Calm and Carry On" , and at the top there was a graphic of a crown to signify that this directive came from the King.
Well since then, a lot of people fell in love with this simple design and positive message and repro posters in all colors are now available.
What you see here is our cheeky take on that design icon...we offer a bit more incentive than simply "carrying on"...in order for us to "Keep Calm" there's gotta be some cupcakes involved!

We've been dying to feature our vintage ballerina cupcake toppers front and center in a painting. Finally we've found the perfect setting! A tablescape of five buttercream frosted cupcakes topped with a fab array of frostings, ballerinas, and jimmies. Up in the foreground we placed a couple of vintage party noise makers and a sprinkling of confetti. This new painting is available in a variety of ways so make sure to check our listings. "Old Fashioned Apple Pie a la Mode"

All it took was one day of slightly cooler weather for us to drop everything and paint this long awaited favorite of the fall season. Even though we often render the more fanciful sweets...(pink buttercream cupcakes with fun vintage toppers etc)...deep down we really are PIE People! And who isn't?
We held off for a long time before doing a painting that focused on this American Classic. And we think all the wait and deliberation was worth it. We wanted to capture the essence of Apple Pie just right. Think Home, think Family, think Grandma's house, think Mom's Kitchen...and Autumn. We pulled out all of our little rolls of vintage wallpaper, and inspired from those we handpainted a pattern of our own. We made sure all the colors on our palette were age accurate and used our very our vintage home decor as the inspiration. This is a fab piece for your country kitchen but also, just a fantastic piece for anywhere in your home.
The painting itself has a "well loved" appearance...we aged it with a gentle wash of sepia...so even the matted prints will have a warm vintage glow. But the wooden plaque version look even better, with distressed edges and an application of another light antique wash.

"Cupcake Girls"

We started this collection of paintings with Charlottte, then the next edition was The Well Read Raven. Our plan all along was to take the elements we used in those paintings and put them side by side with our beloved classic cupcakes...now we bring you Cupcake Girls! The theme here is color and pattern. Pale turquoise, antique aqua, perfect shabby pinks, tans, mocha, and always a dash of chic black. And creating our very own vintage inspired wallpaper is a specialty of ours. We love mixing stripes with florals, polka dots with plaids etc... If it's good pattern and good color...then there can never be too much!
Porcelain dolls figure big into our vintage collectibles and we just had to set them in a still life with our buttercream frosted cupcakes. Beside focusing on color and pattern, all these new paintings will serves as tributes to some of our favorite collectibles and inspirations. We literally filled a table top with inspiration when creating this piece...everything from lace doilies and tiny German doll busts, to sugar flowers and nonpareils. Like the others in this collection.

We've been painting cakes and vintage inspired bakery art for a long time and the idea for this painting has been baking in our creative ovens all the while. Inspired by the sleek, practical, and yet indulgently decorative menu boards of vintage bakeries and classic Paris patisseries, we created this series of paintings which are now available as ready to frame matted prints and on distressed wooden plaques.

Painting this was a lot like coming up with the perfect cake recipe. We compiled our list of ingredients...we added, we subtracted, we adjusted the sweetness, perfected the oven temp...well that is, color scheme. There's just so much you can put into a cake and the same goes for a painting. So with lots of thoughtful consideration we gathered a tablescape of ephemeral favorites and let them take center stage on the canvas. We wanted to capture not just the spirit of the holidays but the spirit of celebration itself.
The little things, the adornments, the accessories...cardboard putz houses, bottle brush trees, mercury glass, vintage shiny brites, paper mache rabbits, nutcups, ballerina cupcake toppers, party hats, salt water taffy, candy coated chocolate Easter eggs, birthday candles...just naming those things brings a smile and reminds us of life's happier times.

"Cupcake Girls"

We started this collection of paintings with Charlottte, then the next edition was The Well Read Raven. Our plan all along was to take the elements we used in those paintings and put them side by side with our beloved classic cupcakes...now we bring you Cupcake Girls! The theme here is color and pattern. Pale turquoise, antique aqua, perfect shabby pinks, tans, mocha, and always a dash of chic black. And creating our very own vintage inspired wallpaper is a specialty of ours. We love mixing stripes with florals, polka dots with plaids etc... If it's good pattern and good color...then there can never be too much!
Porcelain dolls figure big into our vintage collectibles and we just had to set them in a still life with our buttercream frosted cupcakes. Beside focusing on color and pattern, all these new paintings will serves as tributes to some of our favorite collectibles and inspirations. We literally filled a table top with inspiration when creating this piece...everything from lace doilies and tiny German doll busts, to sugar flowers and nonpareils. Like the others in this collection.

We love to expand on the traditional green and red color palette by incorporating pale seafoam green, candy pink, and turquoise. It's a great way of mixing the new and the old. Whether by design or by the aging process itself, so many vintage decorations are pastel toned. There is just a wintery magic captured in the crazed surface of vintage mercury glass ornaments. Well, like most our paintings, this one was inspired by our own massive collection of vintage goodies. Cupcake picks, bottle brush trees, shiny brites, plastic snowmen, etc... We cover our table top with these when we start a painting. This one is the Christmas edition of our series of Holiday cupcakes. Cupcakes are perfect...pretty, sweet, palm sized, portioned, and always prepared for a party!
It was a very long time ago when we first started painting cupcakes...After a late night run to Magnolia we went back to our workshop to work into the wee hours as usual. We had a stack of blank canvases and held a pink frosted cupcake right in front of one...A PAINTING WAS BORN.

Since then we've made painting sweets the center of artistic mission. To this day...some seven or eight years after that initial cupcake canvas we're still going strong and this painting you see here is our tribute to the cupcakes that started it all.

We are big collectors of old photographs and over the years we have come across this particular "genre" again and again...Little tiny kids photographed with their birthday cakes outdoors. We just LOVE the idea of it. The parents kinda set up a makeshift party space just for the sake of taking a picture...and sometimes the weather even appears kinda chilly. I guess the parents were desperate for good lighting...and what better than sunlight.
This one in particular was so special to us. When we found it we just...melted! Can it be any cuter?! They brought her favorite little chair outside, put a box on the lawn, but dressed it up with a table cloth...and the star of the show...her own little cake with it's single, 1st birthday candle! It's so adorable the way she's leaning closer to blow out her candle. We just HAD TO get out our paints and add the necessary embellishments to our favorite details...(well, we added the pink party hat ourselves) Painting her chair a sweet pale aqua, enhancing her tiny outfit...and we just loved that little house in the background!
Around the outer edge is a scallop border of vintage baking book clippings. We finished her off with some swirly handpainted script..."BEST WISHES" was the phrase that just perfectly captured the sentiment this piece.

"The Well Read Raven" 8 x 10 fits 11 x 14 frame

The act of learning can be scary. When you think about, it's a trip into the unknown. But once you get down to the bottom of the unknown the fear is gone. And in this sense, knowledge is home sweet home.
The raven is often portrayed as dark and foreboding. We wanted to turn that idea on it's head. Why can't something that's traditionally sinister be seen as sweet? With rich color and vintage pattern we've recast the age old macabre setting as seen in Poe. The raven atop a stack of books, complete with a well melted candle in a perfectly tarnished silver candlestick. There's nothing scary about a raven who wears a turquoise/aqua silk ribbon and jingle bell around it's neck. He also seems to have brought along a tiny bouquet of millinery flowers just to assuage your nervousness even further. We flip for the aesthetics of Halloween and get those good chills when harvest season approaches, so this type of imagery is right up our alley. But in truth, we had a year round display in mind. This will hang above our mantel always, because it's color and pattern work so well with our theme.

This painting is the second in a series. The thread that will tie them all together is this select color palette of turquoise, tan, mocha, pink, black, sepia, parchment, chocolate and some hints of berry and aqua. With these new works we're aiming at a more 1930's-40's Grandma's attic type of vintage. Making use of our favorite collectibles and aged wallpaper patterns.

"Old Fashioned Apple Pie a la Mode"

All it took was one day of slightly cooler weather for us to drop everything and paint this long awaited favorite of the fall season. Even though we often render the more fanciful sweets...(pink buttercream cupcakes with fun vintage toppers etc)...deep down we really are PIE People! And who isn't?
We held off for a long time before doing a painting that focused on this American Classic. And we think all the wait and deliberation was worth it. We wanted to capture the essence of Apple Pie just right. Think Home, think Family, think Grandma's house, think Mom's Kitchen...and Autumn. We pulled out all of our little rolls of vintage wallpaper, and inspired from those we handpainted a pattern of our own. We made sure all the colors on our palette were age accurate and used our very our vintage home decor as the inspiration. This is a fab piece for your country kitchen but also, just a fantastic piece for anywhere in your home.
The painting itself has a "well loved" appearance...we aged it with a gentle wash of sepia...so even the matted prints will have a warm vintage glow. But the wooden plaque version look even better, with distressed edges and an application of another light antique wash.

The idea for these sprung from our own kitchen...which is all decked out in pink, black and white and one whole wall is almost fully taken up by a big old sign for "The Ritz Bakery", complete with top hat, cane, and white glove logo. For decor we like themes. The idea of the Ritz Bakery thing, is cupcakes and cakes on stage. Top hats, tiaras, curtains, spotlights...because a good cupcake is definitely a showstopper! We wanted to dress them up in full party regalia.
When we sat down to paint this we pulled out our collection of vintage plastic cupcake toppers and set up a little still life. We display this painting in our kitchen year round but on New Years eve we prop it up on our mantle amid our New Years vignette of top hats, noise makers, confetti, etc...

We are big fans of the "tribute with a twist". Taking an iconic idea/image...bringing a lil' bit of your own magic to it and ending up with something special in it's own right. Paying tribute has been at the core of our creative process since we started. We design brand new originals that hopefully evoke the feelings of having seen them before...on the vintagey walls of your past.
This piece is based on an old World War II era poster that was issued by the British government. During wartime, it was important to try to keep the public informed, and as free from panic as possible. The original poster read: "Keep Calm and Carry On" , and at the top there was a graphic of a crown to signify that this directive came from the King.
Well since then, a lot of people fell in love with this simple design and positive message and repro posters in all colors are now available.
What you see here is our cheeky take on that design icon...we offer a bit more incentive than simply "carrying on"...in order for us to "Keep Calm" there's gotta be some cupcakes involved!
This new print is based on our original painting. After months of being bogged down with handpainting each and every order we decided to finally offer it as a print that's quicker for us and more affordable for you.

"Charlotte"

This is Charlotte...the newest member of the Everyday is a Holiday family. She's the first in our new collection of artwork which will focus on the magical collectibles we fill our cozy nests with. We modeled her after our favorite German porcelain dolls and gave her a backdrop of myriad fabulous handpainted wallpapers. Make sure you look at the detail shot of her dress so you can admire her soldered prize ribbon which she was awarded at her first piano recital! For the background we wanted the look of collage but in fact, each of those wallpaper patterns is a handpainted original.
She's a stunner for sure! We've got her hanging above our mantel and she "makes" the room! What's great is all the pattern...from damask to stripes, from lush roses to sweet polka dots. She embodies a spectrum of texture and color: pale pink, aqua, turquoise, chocolate, black...etc. And she posesses diverse vintage appeal. We channeled 1920's through 30's but had in mind the turn of the century treasures found in great Grandma's attic. And trust us that these photos don't evendo her justice. Each wallpaper pattern is distinct and her scallop lace collar is so very intricately rendered.

For us the new year always brings artistic inspiration. Right around the first or the second day of January we start to burst at the seams and we just NEED to do a new painting! So we pulled a couple of all nighters and put this latest creation to canvas. It's a new direction for the New Year. Very much inspired by vintage tea towels and those fabulous Brits! The British decor esthetic is saturated with fun color and pattern and this piece is a bit of a tribute. We've always been inspired by our collections and they often make appearances in our work. Kitchenology # 1 will be the first of many pieces that will fully focus on the essentials, accessories, and must have implements that we keep and covet for our vintage kitchens. We were in a tea party mood when we laid out the designs for this piece...but the future is wide open for mixers, whisks, sifters, mixing bowls etc...etc...we can't wait!

Our little Charlotte plays her first recital with her beloved canary looking on...
This new painting is just a glimpse into the doll sized world of Charlotte. She loves to decorate! And she's not afraid to use pattern...striped walls, checked floor. And look at those fabulous turquoise curtains!

We worked on this painting for a very long time before we realized that Charlotte needed to hang some wall art in her tiny little conservatory. Check out those itty bitty framed "instant relatives". We couldn't help but give Charlotte decorating taste that very much resembles our own. The chandelier and miniature piano are near replicas of ours at home. Creating this piece was like assembling our own little fantasy land...cupcakes & tea, teeny tiny sheet music, vintage cabinet cards, vintage millinery, turquoise chandelier crystals, old gilded frames, a scrolly birdcage...we're actually a bit jealous of Charlotte's little world!

For us the new year always brings artistic inspiration. Right around the first or the second day of January we start to burst at the seams and we just NEED to do a new painting! So we pulled a couple of all nighters and put this latest creation to canvas. It's a new direction for the New Year. Very much inspired by vintage tea towels and those fabulous Brits! The British decor esthetic is saturated with fun color and pattern and this piece is a bit of a tribute. We've always been inspired by our collections and they often make appearances in our work. Kitchenology # 1 will be the first of many pieces that will fully focus on the essentials, accessories, and must have implements that we keep and covet for our vintage kitchens. We were in a tea party mood when we laid out the designs for this piece...but the future is wide open for mixers, whisks, sifters, mixing bowls etc...etc...we can't wait!

This is available in both sizes! 11 x 14 and 8 x 10. And is just the dawn of a collection that will grow and grow! We had so much fun painting this so more of it's kind are sure to follow!!

Our home decor has changed so many times over the years. At present we're working with a pastel color palette but we have very very fond memories of our all-red theme. Cherries, gingham print, polka dots, stripes! The Red, White and Black esthetic is just so awesome...so retro, punchy, clean, and crisp. We know so many of you out there who have the Red thing going on and these cupcakes are for you! We really want to expand our red collection and this painting is the perfect intro. It is the ultimate companion piece to our red "Keep Calm and Have a Cupcake" print. We've been dying to feature our vintage ballerina cupcake toppers front and center in a painting. Finally we've found the perfect setting! A tablescape of five buttercream frosted cupcakes topped with a fab array of frostings, ballerinas, and jimmies. Up in the foreground we placed a couple of vintage party noise makers and a sprinkling of confetti. This new painting is available in a variety of ways so make sure to check our listings. And the two wooden plaque versions are extra special. The edges are painted metallic gold and it looks fantastic with this color palette and the hint of gold in the painting!

There's nothing like that perfect vintage green. And paired with chocolate it's magic. We're big time collectors and we used one of our vintage thin mints boxes as color reference when we painted this. The chocolate cake texture is so realistic...this is definitely one of our most appetizing paintings! What's also great about this color palette is that it's perfect for the sweets loving guy and you gals that aren't ga ga for pink.
The words "piece of cake " are painted a deep chocolate brown in a great old fashioned font. We designed this with the intention of bringing the nostalgia and magic of old fashioned bakeries and bake shops to everyday life.

Please be aware that this is a very detailed image, and that lots of these details are lost in the digital photos. The swirls of frosting and the decorative piping are distinct, and the texture of the cake looks completely edible.

Petit Fours...we've always seen them as sweets disguised as tiny pretty gift boxes. And they are!...delectable cakes inside in sweet, edible, decorative wrapping. We just had to add these to our series of "vintage bakery board" pieces. Classic white lettering and pastel sweets set against slate-like black backgrounds. We definitely plan on doing more French sweets in this series being that black is such a key accent color in classic Paris patisseries. The old fashioned white cakestand features an assortment of the perfect Parisian confections decorated with delicate fondant roses and swirls of sweet frosting.

"Home Sweet Home"

There truly is "no place like home". As artists it's an image that we seem to return to again and again. There's just a deeply ingrained sense of comfort in the basic house design. As kids, it's one of the first images we draw. So "Home" was the starting point for this kit...next was Cupcakes...and no explanation is necessary when it comes to cupcakes!
But overall, when we put a kit together the main inspiration above all else is: PATTERN. When we design a kit it's our chance to create the exact patterns and papers we're dying to see. We piled our drawing board with all of our favorite vintage wallpaper scraps and drew from that inspiration.
Every pattern and bit of artwork you see here is 100% handpainted by us. We aim to bridge the gap between our world of sweets and collectibles and the world of scrapbooking. The cutting and pasting...the patchwork, the layering!
And the color palette consists of our all time faves: pale pink, berry pink, aqua, mocha, cream, and bits of pale vintage green. Each bit touched by the warm hand of age.
You'll have a lot of FUN with this kit...it has the feeling of sewing a patchwork quilt but without the difficulty of actually sewing! Inside you'll get everything you need to create what you see here plus some!
This kit is soooo very easy to do and the instructions are totally clear...but at the same time we leave you lots of room to interpret it in your own unique way.

Postcards are always a welcome guest in our mailbox...well, postcards AND big parcels full of etsy purchases!! But the timeless, simple, and practical act of sending a postcard will never ever go out of style. And that's precisely why we wanted to design some postcards with style!
We gathered a few of our favorite and most popular original paintings and gave them their postal wings.
First, there's Charlotte. As soon as we finished painting her we just knew that she'd be a popular little gal...she's become our Everyday is a Holiday mascot and we can't begin to count how many homes she hangs in now! Soon after came our Well Read Raven (you could almost say he's Charlotte's pet)...and then to round out the trilogy...Cupcake Girls! which totally married our two loves: vintage collectibles & sweets.
