An interactive fiber piece.

This piece begs to be touched. The blend of several natural fibers creates a soft surface for you to rest your head. The embedded speakers connect to an ipod/mp3player, cd player, or any small device with a headphone jack.

The back of the piece easily opens to access the speakers. Inside you will also find lavender sachets that scent the piece adding aromatherapeudic benefits.

It can hang on a wall, but prefers to sit on a pedestal.

All objects were hand sewn onto the form.

Made of the memories I held on to and couldn't throw away, odds and ends from my drawers, key chains, buttons, a bag of beads, earrings without a match. These are all things that were destined to go in the trash but made it to an art piece instead. This piece is named for the (former) landfill on Staten Island. It's one of my upcycled wonders! It hangs easily on a wall, or sits nicely on its spinning pedestal. See a video of it in action on my flickr page:

This fiber sculpture is made entirely of shetland wool. The base was knit, the top was crocheted, and then the whole piece was felted.

The felted breast is part of a series of free form pieces. All of the sculptures crocheted with a set pattern came out looking more realistic, the way that "the ideal" breast would look. The free form pieces, while they were not always even, or realistic, were perfect and beautiful just as they were. What came out of building a free flowing form was more natural.

This crocheted fiber sculpture is part of a series of free form pieces. All of the pieces crocheted with a set pattern came out looking more realistic, the way that "the ideal" breast would look. Once upon a time I crocheted nipples and give them to people at bars, on the street, in cafes... asking if they'd like to play with my nipples. As I opened a box filled with crocheted nipple pins of all shapes, colors and sizes, most agreed. After picking one they would name their new art object and I'd take a picture to add to my collection. It encouraged people to talk about the body and created joy around a topic that is often surrounded with so much fear.

This piece like my nipple project reminds us to love our bodies, be playful, and create joy.
