Zine - Surreal Moments from My Recent Vacation

$1.00
I wrote A Selection of Surreal Moments from My Recent Vacation after I took a two-week trip in August 2009. I went from my Seattle home to White River Junction, Vermont for a weeklong class at the Center for Cartoon Studies. From there, I went to St. Louis to visit my grandma and dad – my first trip to where I grew up since 2007.

Going back home is pretty reliably weird, as I'm as close to a black sheep as my part of the family has. (Fortunately, we all still like each other just fine.) This is a good-natured review of some of the stranger moments from my trip.

Eight pages plus kelly green cardstock cover. Quarter-size zine with landscape layout. My own illustrations with corresponding explanation and illumination.

Zine - How to Be More Creative, More Often

$3.50
This 28-page zine is the result of three or four pretty miserable months I had earlier this year. I was trying to reconcile my day-job life with my wild-creative-person life, and it wasn't easy. It's still not perfect, but this zine is the synthesis of everything I read or figured out that lets me go outside with a smile again. When people ask me what I do, I can say I'm a writer and an artist without feeling like a fraud - even though that's not how I make my living (yet).

28 pages (including cover), electric blue or fuchsia cardstock cover. Text is handwritten with occasional silly illustrations. Text contains the occasional good-natured swearword.

I have yet to hear a single recipient of this zine say anything other than, "This is so helpful, and I can't wait to start trying some of this." An older friend (and a lifelong professional creative person) said, "I don't know how she figured all this out already."
