Lavender Sweetheart Stem

Here's a sweet way to let someone know you love them. Or that they could use some freshening up. Whichever.

This is pretty little stem made out of fabric and repurposed hanger wire. The wire has been bent and twisted and a salmon-colored heart and grass-green colored leaf have been fused together over the frame. The flower heart has fragrant organic lavender buds fused between the fabric layers. Each stem is a little different and may vary in terms of their exact dimensions and which part of the fabric pattern was caught in the flower or the leaf, but all of them are lovely. Both sides of the flower and leaf are made of the same fabric, so no matter which way you view the stem, it’ll be pretty.

Each stem is about 15.5 to 16 inches from toe to tip, the leaf is about 3.5 inches in length, and the heart is about 4.25 inches across at its widest point.

The stem will ship in a bubble envelope and the bottom of the stem will be folded to ensure a proper fit. You will need to un-bend the bottom of the wire using your hands or a pair of small pliers to get it to stand straight again.

Namaste Necklace

This necklace is strung with amazing sea-green graduated stones and a hand-carved wooden Buddha pendant. The pendant has been strung with one of stone beads at the base of the figure. Two pale blue hand-made and fair trade ceramic beads from Africa punctuate the simple line of the strand. The necklace is secured with two crimp beads on either end, which are then concealed with two silver crimp covers. The sturdy sterling silver box clasp has a pretty flower design.

The pendant (with stone drop) measures approximately 1.25 inches in length. The two ceramic beads measure just under an inch in length and the entire length of the necklace is about 16.75 inches.

Chicken Necklace

OK, I'll admit it. I'm on a chicken kick lately.

This eye-catching necklace features a hand-drawn, green chicken who is clearly the top bird. The pendant features the charming illustration on the back, which shows through the shiny shrink plastic when worn shiny-side-up. I do have friends who prefer to wear the necklace with the ink side up. The detail is also sharp on the back and the illustration is matte on the reverse side. I use permanent inks (not Sharpies) that I have found to be very durable on shrink plastic and the illustration is sealed with a few coats of spray varnish. The edges of the plastic pendant have been inked in black to give a framed, finished look.

The necklace is strung with 1/8" satin ribbon and closes with a sterling silver box clasp with the Chinese symbol for good luck. The necklace length is about 19", with the pendant sitting below the collarbone. The pendant measures about 2.75" at its widest point and 1.5" at its highest.

Lavender Love Curly Q Necklace

I am flipping out about lavender lately. I'm not sure why, but it's my new favorite color and so this necklace was created with a lot of love.

This Curly Q necklace is made using freshwater pearls, faceted Aventurine rounds, and the loveliest lavender hand dyed silk cord. It is fastened with a substantial sterling silver box clasp, highlighted by a disk of chalcedony. This is a lovely Spring piece and would make a great gift for any lavender lover ♥

The specs:
The necklace measures about 17 inches. The curly q portion of the necklace is about 5 inches in length. The diameter of the clasp is about .75 inches. Headpins are all silver plated. Spring Fling Curly Q Necklace - Fancy Clasp

Here is my latest Curly Q necklace, all gussied up in spring colors.

The necklace is made from fluted glass beads in warm grey, grass green, and pale blue. The necklace is hung from grey/silver rubber cord and is held together by a really special clasp. The clasp features carved and fluted blue glass to match the beads in the necklace. It is a box clasp set in sterling sliver. I only get a few special clasps each year and usually I keep them for myself - so this necklace is rare:)

The curly Q portion of this necklace measures about 4.5 inches and the overall length of the necklace is about 17.5 inches. The clasp itself measures .5 X .75 inches.

Starlet Curly Q Necklace

Feeling flirtatious? Let out your inner starlet with this fancy-shmancy necklace!

This necklace is glitzy and glammy in all the right ways. It's made using vintage Austrian faceted black beads put together in a curly Q with vintage faceted clear beads with the prettiest rainbow sheen. These hang from a strand of black plastic rounds (which I'm pretty sure are vintage as well). But the best part is the amazing sparkly vintage button that dangles to one side of the necklace. Let's just say that I'm having a lot of trouble parting with this one. It's got a lovely patina and four honkin' rhinestones that demand to be noticed. It's not really shown in the pictures, but when the necklace is worn, the button will lean to the side.

There are lots of lovely little details on this necklace - - crimp bead covers over all of the crimps (which is quite a few, since I double crimp!), a faceted clear bead at each end of the sterling silver hook clasp, and did I mention that button?

The headpins used in the curly Q are silver plated; all other components are sterling silver. The length of the necklace is about 18 inches.

Pink Prague Necklace

This necklace was made using a pink pressed glass vintage pendant from Prague (say that ten times fast!) It is strung with 16mm crystal clear plastic beads and a pink ceramic bead which is offset to one side. There are clear plastic spacer beads between the larger beads and the necklace terminates with a sterling silver toggle clasp with a floral design. There are two tiny pink coral beads between the last to lucite beads at the clasp.

The necklace measures about 17 inches and the pendant is about 1.5 inches tall and 1.25 inches wide. The ends have been double crimped for added security.

Necessity Necklace

They say that necessity is the mother of invention...she's also the daughter of frustration, I think. I went for a good while without any clasps in my stash (how frustrating). I used them up and hadn't restocked (how silly of me). But I had these great beads and I really wanted to make a necklace out of them and so: the Necessity Necklace was born.

And so, out of necessity, I've replaced the traditional clasp with a vintage button. The strand of beads hangs from fabric pieces carefully sewn then turned to give a nice, neat finish. The button is sewn on with a coordinating tangerine-colored thread.

The beads are plastic and in the case of the orange one at least, seem vintage. The largest bead is 3/4 of an inch in diameter, the smallest is just under 1/2 an inch in diameter. The beads are a beautiful sky blue with a marigold-orange bead strung lovingly off-center. The colors in the fabric pick up the colors of the beads nicely. The fabric is attached using silver ribbon crips and I've double-crimped both ends of the necklace (where the beads meet the fabric) for added security. And because I've just discovered the beauty of crimp covers...there's a silver bead covering the crimps on each end...just to make it extra-purty (see this detail in the 3rd photo).

The overall length of this necklace is about 20 inches.

Poultry Paper Stationery Set

Need to catch up on your correspondence? Here is a lovely stationery set inspired by my new pet chickens(!).

The pages are cut from some vintage grade book sheets and have all kinds of wonderful blue and red gridlines on them, numbered rows and columns, and general good organizational vibes. The pages were cut from different sections of the grade book sheets, so gridlines will be in different places and not all pages are exactly alike (because that would be boring!)

At the top of each page, I've printed a little drawing of five chickens in maroon ink. You get 10 sheets of paper and 5 envelopes (made of 100% recycled materials) in your choice of color: slate blue, maroon, or brown bag.

Each sheet measures 5.5 x 8 inches and the envelopes are standard A2 size (the sheets will fit in them, folded, with a little bit of wiggle room). Since these sheets were cut from vintage paper, they sometimes show some age in some places...which is the beauty of vintage materials!

Rice Tote

Here it is! For years I've been hoarding away those wonderful bags that we buy our rice in from the Indian market. I knew that they would become totes one day, and finally they have!

What you have here is a fun tote made from a rice bag panel and cotton fabric. The front of the bag is the rice bag and the reverse is a beautiful Buddha print. The bag is lined with a pale blue cotton fabric with white stars. These lovely fabrics sandwich a layer of cotton flannel that gives the bag stability. The bottom edges of the bag have been sewn into corners, so there is actually a bottom to the tote. There is a cell phone pocket (oh, how I love little pockets in my tote bags) inside that has been strategically cut from the Buddha fabric so that when you open the bag, one of the figures will be smiling up at you. This is the second bag in the series and the inside pocket features a blue buddha.

The handles are hand woven out of a pale blue cotton. The general color scheme of this bag is lemon yellow, pale blue, and darker blues reds and greens (mostly jewel tones).

The bag measures approximately 2 inches by 7.5 inches at its base and 11 inches in height. The handles are an inch wide and are 22 inches in length. This would make a great back for toting around a few things like a couple of books and essentials.

This is a simple, cheery tote bag designed around some beautiful vintage punchneedle embroidery I found at a yard sale. The punchneedle embroidery creates a wonderfully textured stitch - almost like lots and lots of french knots. The bag itself is constructed of a heavy cotton material on the outside and a lightweight cotton quilting material on the inside. The embroidery is bonded to the bag and stitched round to give it a nice, clean appearance.

Approximate measurements are: 14.5 inches wide, 10.5 inches high and 4 inches deep.

Yellow Pincushion Etui with Pins

This is a cute little felt pincushion permanently adhered to the top of a wooden box for all of your pinning and storage needs! The turned wooden box has been stained and painted with acrylic paints to give a natural wood look and a whimsical periwinkle dot design. It has been sealed to give it a glossy finish. The pincushion is made of cheery lemon felt with two square (electric and sky blue) felt appliqués.

You will also get five shrink plastic pins which are decorated in a similar pattern as the cushion top.

Outside dimensions of the box are about 2.75" in diameter, 3.5" tall (including the cushion top). This would make a sweet little gift for a sewin' fool!

Little Tin Pincushion

This little sweetie is direct from my stash of pretty tins. I've taken the decorative lid of a candy tin and perched a pincushion inside of it.

The pincushion itself is made from wool - a deep pink on top and a gray and pink woven wool on the sides. They have been hand stitched together around the edges and two ebony flowers decorate the top. The flowers are also felt and each one has a little blue-green Swarovski crystal secured to the center. Didn't I say it was a sweetie?

The edge bottom edge of the tin has been covered with a length of black grosgrain ribbon (to hide all of the boring details like expiration dates and such!) and the entire cushion has been stuck into the tin with a super-strong glue. The pincushion is filled with layers of the cotton batting I use for quilting.

The secret to this pincushion, however, is found when you turn it over. You will see a lovely little pastoral scene between a man and woman. Are they forbidden lovers? Only the sheep and birds hanging about them may know :)

But there is another secret to this tin! I've secured a number of good, strong magnets to the bottom of the tin (before setting the cushion inside) so if you flip the tin over, you can quickly collect pins or if you drop your pins, simply slide the tin side of this pincushion around on the floor and you'll pick them up in a snap! If you choose to collect the pins as your sewing using the magnetic side, the cushion will sit well upside down (with the felt side on the bottom). In the picture, I'm holding the pincushion up so that you can see the magnetic magic in action :)

The pincushion measures approximately 3.5 inches in length, 2.25 inches in width and 1.25 inches in height.

Peaceful Hobbies Note Cards

What brings you peace? In our house, knitting and reading are two common activities that soothe our souls. These note cards feature a gocco print image of a knitter and a reader, with the word "peace" beneath spelled out in (what else?) yarn.

The image is printed in golden ink on 4 x 5.5 inch off-white cards with multicolor flecks. The envelopes are a brighter white, but also feature multicolored flecks. The cards are blank inside and the back is stamped "kdmade" in brown ink. You get 8 cards in a set!

Here is a fantastic little book for your scribbling/ jotting/ autograph-obtaining enjoyment. Actually, I initially thought that these would become flipbooks; they are designed mighty well for such a purpose (I'm just sayin').

Anyway, here you have a 5.5 x 3 inch book of vintage grade book papers (20 pages for your doodling adventures!) between brown cardstock covers. The front has been decorated with an ink and watercolor drawing of my favorite little flower doodles in rainbow shades. The book is bound with red waxed cotton cord, which is tied off at the bottom.

The back of each book is stamped with "kdmade" in brown. Please note that the 2nd, 4th, and 5th photos are of another notebook in this series with a different design on the front. This notebook is exactly the same except for the cover design!

I can't ever pass up a fun pair of vintage clip-on earrings when I find them in yard sales and thrift stores. After hoarding these lovelies for a while, I finally decided to make something with them and so here you have (drumroll, please) the Vintage Earring Hair Clip.

These clips are made with singed fabric with the jeweled part of a single, vintage earring secured to the center. The clip is secured to the back with some good, solid sewing skills and a dab of fray check on all knots.
