Natural Indigo Dye - 300 yards - Suri Alpaca and Merino

It is here at last! Natural Indigo dyed yarn. This yarn was dyed with the Indigo Plant. This dye has been used since ancient times and is one of the most interesting of all natural dyes. What makes it so interesting is that it is not water soluble as other dyes are. In order to make it water soluble it must be fermented which removes the oxygen. Along with a chemical reaction that occurs with a mordant and reintroducing the oxygen to the yarn immediately after dying the incredible results you see here are what happens. It is amazing! The yarn is pale greenish in the liquid. When it hits the air it is magically transformed permanently into a glorious Indigo Blue.
The plant is processed into cakes in preparation for the dying process. This is what you see in the picture to your right.

It has many of the same properties only in a much more mild and safe form. We drink it just for pleasure at my house. The Indians, Mexicans, and Early Pioneers drank its delicious and delicate tea to relieve intestinal ailments as well as respiratory problems.

This little gem sits in the middle of nowhere in the Mojave Desert. I am told they use this old 50's diner for filming in movies and tv shows. It is so cute! This yarn was made from my hand dyed roving in the colors of the rainbow. It was spun and dyed in such a way as to stretch and blend the colors together creating this soft and luscious colorway. This is actually 2 skeins for a total of 3.9 ounces and 207 yards of Merino Wool Top. 2 Ply. ranging from 12-17 WPI light/medium yarn.

A message about plying yarn. Plying the singles gives them balance. A single strand pulls in the direction it was spun. Spinning two of these spun singles in the opposite direction balances out the twist so it won't pull either way. Plying also increases the strength of the yarn and adds elasticity.

Spider Bookmark - Crochet Pattern

This lovely bookmark is made from lace weight yarn. It uses a very small amount so it is great to use up those leftover scraps. It is the perfect project to travel with, light and compact and reasonably simple to follow. I am making them for gifts for my family and friends!

This pattern is a take on one of the oldest patterns in crochet, spider lace. I have updated this ancient technique in a easy to follow row by row written pattern. I have been making this particular version of spider lace since I was a child as blankets and throws. I just scaled it down for this divine bookmark. The bookmark pictured was made from my lace weight Alpaca, Cashmere and Silk blend yarn.

You will need a size 7 steel crochet hook and lace weight yarn. You will use SC, DC and TR in a 5 row repeating pattern. It is not a very hard pattern. The book mark measures 8 1/2" by 2" in the yarn I used. It will vary depending on your gauge.

Natural Alkanet/Cochineal Dye - Half Pound - Merino Worsted Weight Yarn

This yarn was dyed two different natural dyes. The pink is cochineal which is a insect found on cactus. They are collected, dried and then used for dye. Cochineal has been used since at least the 15th century when tributes were paid to Montezuma in the form of bags of cochineal dye and decorated blankets. Peaking in the 1770's cochineal became one of Mexico's most valued exports. The use of cochineal has nearly died out because of cheaper and more accessible dye stuffs. The tradition was carried on though and now is making a re-emergence. Enjoy this prized tradition in this gorgeous yarn.

The pale Lilac Gray is Alkanet. Alkanet is a plant in the Borage family. The bark of the root is used to produce either red or bluish gray dye colors. You get either color depending on what mordants you use. I used Alum and Cream of Tartar to get this lovely soft shade.
Alkanet was also used in ancient times by the Egyptians and Greeks to color food, makeup, and wood.

The yarn I created this sock for use with has been discontinued. For that reason I am listing this pattern at half price. You can use any other yarn you like just be sure to get a proper gauge so the pattern will work for you!

I have been working for months to create the Perfect Crochet Sock Pattern. I have taken my years of experience knitting socks and transformed it into this really wonderful crochet pattern. This sock is not thick like most crochet socks are. It fits like a glove and feels wonderful on your feet.

I do not recommend using any other yarn at least the first time you use the pattern. The pattern was designed with this yarn. It is very elastic and works very well for crochet socks.

This yarn was spun from 100% merino wool from roving I had listed in my shop in the color of Summer. It has tones of red, orange, and gold that go beyond description. The main feel of this yarn is red-orange. There are so many subtle shades you really will be a spectator as each new combination unfolds.

Approx 3.7 oz, 152 yards of 100% Merino Wool. 2 Ply. Averaging 1-13 WPI Medium Heavy Weight Yarn.

A message about plying yarn. Plying the singles gives them balance. A single strand pulls in the direction it was spun. Spinning two or three of these spun singles in the opposite direction balances out the twist so it won't pull either way. Plying also increases the strength of the yarn and adds elasticity.

Merino Wool is a very soft and special fiber. This yarn is not scratchy or itchy at all. It is soft and comfy to the touch and a pleasure to work with.

Filigree -
This is a lovely sock pattern that is lacy yet sturdy. The cuff is fairly easy but does require some experience with crochet. This is not a beginners project but it is a very fun pattern and it works up fairly quickly!

This sock is a toe up version of The Perfect Crochet Sock. There are some nice benefits to doing the crochet sock toe first. The foundation row is always very tight and can be a problem in cuff down socks. Since the foundation row is at the very tip of the toes it doesn't cause any problems. The heel is very simple to work decreasing each row and then increasing rows to for the heel shape.

I have been working for months to create the Perfect Crochet Sock Pattern. I have taken my years of experience knitting socks and transformed it into this really wonderful crochet pattern. This sock is not thick like most crochet socks are. It fits like a glove and feels wonderful on your feet.
It is the same thickness as an average knitted sock when knit with Lazy Perry Ranch Merino Lace Yarn!

When I was just pregnant with my 2nd child my little sister was born. Her name is Alyssia. She is a dainty little half Japanese and half American young lady. These socks were inspired by my feelings for her. My father has since passed on and she is a piece of him I hold dear in my heart. The pale Lilac Gray is produced using Alkanet. Alkanet is a plant in the Borage family. The bark of the root is used to produce either red or bluish gray dye colors. You get either color depending on what mordants you use. I used Alum and Cream of Tartar to get this lovely soft shade.
Alkanet was also used in ancient times by the Egyptians and Greeks to color food, makeup, and wood.

The Luck Shawl is an original Lazy Perry Ranch Design with clovers all through the open lace work. Made from the finest Merino Wool this is a must have. The boarder mimics the clovers in the shawl on a larger and much more bold scale. The boarder clovers start small near the edges and get larger and longer as they move in towards the center for a truly spectacular visual. All of the clovers have three leaves except one extra lucky clover on the body of the shawl which you can have a great time trying to find just like in a real field of clovers!

I designed this shawl to fit the human body. It won't bunch behind the neck and on the shoulders as many shawls do. It has a wonderful light feel to it while still being substantial enough to cover you on a chilly evening. It lays flat without blocking and is just so wonderful feeling you won't want to take it off.

I used Lazy Perry Ranch Merino Sport Weight yarn dyed in a randomly variegated green with a darker green for the edging.

The shawl measures 24" from the center bottom to the center top and 43" from wing tip to wing tip. The measurements were taken without stretching at all. This shawl fits a small to medium woman best.

This shawl should be hand washed only and laid flat to dry.

The yarn I created this sock for use with has been discontinued. For that reason I am listing this pattern at half price. You can use any other yarn you like just be sure to get a proper gauge so the pattern will work for you!

Jester -
This sock has a motif of diamonds and a "Jester" edging to complete the theme. There are two different edgings to choose from depending on how wild you want to be! One edging is a saw tooth and the other a bobble edge like a jester hat.

This sock is a toe up version of The Perfect Crochet Sock. There are some nice benefits to doing the crochet sock toe first. The foundation row is always very tight and can be a problem in cuff down socks. Since the foundation row is at the very tip of the toes it doesn't cause any problems. The heel is very simple to work decreasing each row and then increasing rows to for the heel shape.

I have been working for months to create the Perfect Crochet Sock Pattern. I have taken my years of experience knitting socks and transformed it into this really wonderful crochet pattern. This sock is not thick like most crochet socks are. It fits like a glove and feels wonderful on your feet.
It is the same thickness as an average knitted sock when knit with Lazy Perry Ranch Merino Lace Yarn!

A message about plying yarn. Plying the singles gives them balance. A single strand pulls in the direction it was spun. Spinning two or three of these spun singles in the opposite direction balances out the twist so it won't pull either way. Plying also increases the strength of the yarn and adds elasticity.

This yarn was so fun to make! Rabbit Bush grows wild in the Mojave. My family and I went out collecting last fall. Collecting from wild sources is called "wild crafting" and should always be done with respect to the environment. We collected a little bit off of many plants in order not to damage the population or the individual plants.
Rabbit Bush is a shrub that blooms with vivid yellow flowers in the spring and again in the fall. They really light up the Mojave when they are in bloom. Their sweet smell fills the air.

You can see in the picture to the right what the dye looks like before use.

I have seen this plant so many times and never knew what it was. It is really interesting because it is tiny and only grows about 1/4 tall! It is called Rattlesnake Weed because it is purported to work as a treatment on snake bites although I couldn't find any evidence that it actually does work. This is the stuff of legend. Enjoy!

I used two of the rovings I had listed here on etsy to create this lively color combination. One ply is shades or orange and yellow and the other pink and burgundy. I have included pictures of the rovings so you can see what this started as. I don't think the pictures do this one justice at all. The amazing array of colors is stunning. A message about plying yarn. Plying the singles gives them balance. A single strand pulls in the direction it was spun. Whether you want to costume yourself up for the Renaissance Faire or just look great in knee high socks this pattern is for you! I was inspired to write a new sock pattern when I went to the Renaissance Faire this year. These knee high socks are designed to be custom fit to any adult sized leg with specific measurements to assure a perfect fit every time. With calf shaping these socks will always stay up and fit perfectly. The pattern is written with specific instructions for each section based on specific measurements you will take of the intended leg. Simply follow the instructions with full illustrations for each section and create your own one of a kind fitted knee high sock.

This pattern is designed for intermediate knitters. If you have ever made a sock before it should be no problem at all. The basic construction is standard. You will be knitting in the round on circular needles.

This pattern was designed using LPR DK Superwash Yarn and the largest size I made for my 6 ft tall husband took a bit less than 400 yards (2 skeins). I think most sizes will be well within this yarn amount. If you want to make them thigh high you should purchase an extra skein of yarn. If you are making these to be worn with a Kilt the traditional style is thigh high folded down below the knee.

This is a brand new Kerchief pattern based on the Collette's Kerchief I have sold in the past. This version is updated and larger than the original was. The drop stitch detail is unique and original to this pattern. It is all knit using either circular or straight knitting needles. This pattern requires a basic knowledge of knitting. If you are a beginner you will be learning a lot but you can accomplish this pattern!

This pattern includes an optional boarder. It is knit with a garter boarder and does not require the extra boarder. You can do it if you want more:)

Every year we are ravaged by wildfires many of which are arson. This year (2009) we have been hit hard long before fire season has even started. Currently this fire, called the STATION FIRE, has burned 147,418 acres. It is said to be the biggest fire Los Angeles County has seen in over 100 years. It is still burning. I made this yarn to commemorate the two firefighters who lost their lives fighting this fire. They shall not be forgotten and I hope the fools who started it are found and brought to justice...

Desert Jewels has colors ranging through shades of scrub brush green, desert sky blue, wildflower periwinkle, dark desert sky blue, and desert sunset red. It begins and ends in the scrub brush green. The shawl pictured is not in this colorway but is in the same color fading style. Every skein is unique and will unfold in its own unique way. Every skein is slightly different as it is hand painted individually. As you knit/crochet the pattern will be revealed to you automatically! It is one large skein that you just knit/crochet through and it will change from color to color unfolding in the shades of Desert Jewels. There is a separate skein to knit the lace edging with.

I have seen this plant so many times and never knew what it was. It is really interesting because it is tiny and only grows about 1/4 tall! It is called Rattlesnake Weed because it is purported to work as a treatment on snake bites although I couldn't find any evidence that it actually does work. This is the stuff of legend. Enjoy!

Collette’s Knitted Cabled Pouch Pattern
I created this little pouch pattern to teach with. It has many techniques incorporated for the beginning/intermediate knitter to take their knitting to the next level. Of course it is good for advanced knitters too! Skills you will use with this pattern:
Knit, purl, knitted cast on, seed stitch, 1x1 ribbing, knitting in the round with double pointed needles, left and right cables without a cable needle, left and right slanting decrease, kitchener stitch.

I have incorporated step by step instructions with pictures to teach the techniques used in this pattern.

This pouch is really quick and fun to knit up. I did the one pictured out of un-dyed yarn and then dyed it afterwards. It was really fun to do this way.

This one of a kind very original scarf was made using a technique called Tunisian Crochet. It is a simple stitch that looks knit even though it is a crochet technique. What makes this scarf unique is the yarns that I used. There are three unique yarns here, Very Red Mohair, Orangy Handspun Alpaca, and yellow, red and orange hand dyed Merino Wool. The three combine to create a stunning visual and scrumptious finished scarf! The fringe has been left long and dramatic.

Your scarf measures just shy of 6' from fringe to fringe and is about 4-4 1/2" wide. It weighs 3.2 oz. You should hand wash this scarf and lay it flat to dry and it will serve you for years and years to come!
