John Genzale was born July 15, 1952, and grew up in Jackson Heights, NY. He was of second generation Italian descent. As a youngster he played baseball but could not join the Little League as it required the presence of the youth's father. Under the name "Johnny Volume," Genzale began performing music at Quintano High School with "Johnny and the Jaywalkers."

In 1968 he started going to the Fillmore East on weekends and later a West Village bar on Bleecker Street, Nobodys. He got a job as a salesclerk at Da Nazz leather shop on Bleecker and it was on Bleecker Street that he met future Dolls Arthur Kane and Billy Murcia. He joined their band, "Actress," which eventually became the New York Dolls when David and Syl joined in 1971. At this time John Genzale renamed himself Johnny Thunders, after a comic book of the same name.

It had to happen... a little play on words, a LOT of creativity.

This listing serves to announce a new shop that my sweet little 10-yr old daughter and I have opened here on etsy, SewCharmed! This is the very first item made by Molly and me, a darling little handbag called BoyJoy Wristlet. The knot in the handle can be untied so you can wear it on your shoulder too.

This sweet bag is made of black, white and brown suiting fabric with a tuxedo flounce of phoofy fluffy pink pleated ruffly girly stuff. We love the contrast!

The "a boy is a joy" embellishment is actually a piece of jewelry (with rosary style glass pearl and glass bead dangles... safety pinned with tiny black pins so that it can be removed for wear on a t-shirt!

Approx. 8.5 x 8.5 inches plus handle, with lots of distressed threads, seams on the outside, and a little machine embroidery on the handle, as shown.

It's just lemonade. I found a vintage cross stitch sampler at the thriftstore that reads "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." It's real corny and has a border of lemons xstitched around the words... it's really pretty ugly, so I figured, well that was a waste of a dollar or whatever. But I hung it in the kitchen (underneath my outsider art painting of an Evil Pilsbury Dough Boy, and damn if I haven't sort of fallen in love with the thing. Then there's Mike's Hard. What is NOT to love about a drink that gets you utterly plastered but tastes like... you got it... tangy tart lemonade?! And, voila... a necklace is born. Or whatever, but I love wearing this thing.

Death is swift, but pleasant as the fruit has a sweet tart flavor unlike any berry of its species. I discovered these dangerous jewels in Persia, where they have been grown since the 17th century.

QINTESSENCE OF DEBAUCHERY. April 1, 1647 - July 26, 1680 was an English libertine, a friend of King Charles II, and the writer of much satirical and bawdy poetry. He was the toast of the Restoration court and a patron of the arts. He married an heiress, Elizabeth Malet, but had many mistresses, including the actress Elizabeth Barry. Rochester's life was divided between domesticity in the country and a riotous existence at court, where he was renowned for drunkenness, vivacious conversation, and "extravagant frolics" as part of the Merry Gang. The best-known dramatic work attributed to Rochester, Sodom, or the Quintessence of Debauchery, has never been successfully proven to be written by him. However, supposed posthumous printings of Sodom gave rise to prosecutions for obscenity, and were destroyed. On 16 December 2004 one of the few surviving copies of Sodom was sold by Sotheby's for 45,600 pounds sterling.

The film The Libertine, based on Jeffreys's play, was shown at the 2004 Toronto Film Festival and was released in the UK on November 25, 2005. While taking some artistic liberties, it chronicles Rochester's life, with Johnny Depp as Rochester.

'Who killed cock robin?' is best described as an English folksong or poem rather than a nursery rhyme. The words of "Who killed cock robin" are said to refer to the death of the legendary figure of Robin Hood and not that of a bird. The legend of Robin Hood encompasses the theme that he stole from the rich to give to the poor. The words of "Who killed cock robin" describe how help was offered from all quarters following the death of cock robin thus reflecting the high esteem in which Robin was held by the common folk.

To say I love this poem is an understatement. I have encapsulated a beautiful illustration of poor cock robin in sterling silver, with the first line in another tiny charm. Lovely and strange earrings made with genuine gilded crab claws from the Chesapeake Bay.

So yeah, I'm a Baltimore girl and in B'more 'steamers' as they are known are quite the thing. Ya sit around a picnic table and pound on the deadass suckers with a large wooden mallet to extract teensy bits of sweet succulent crab meat. And these days, for this you shall pay dearly.

I'm a vegetarian now, so frankly this activity (not to mention the whole cooking them live thing) grosses me out bigtime, but my dear sweet parents are not (vegetarians). Ultimately, my making these things into jewelry is a form of protest, from my perspective. Irony, tongue in cheek, &tc. I'm fascinated by dead things, I just don't want to ingest them. Or something like that.

Billie Holiday was born born Eleanora Fagan in 1915 in Philadelphia... where her teenage mother had relocated after being thrown out of her parents home in Baltimore. At the age of 10, Eleanora reported that she had been raped. That claim, combined with her frequent truancy, resulted in her being sent to The House of the Good Shepherd, a Catholic reform school, in 1925. It was only through the assistance of a family friend that she was released two years later. Scared by these experiences, she moved to New York City with her mother in 1928. In 1929 Holiday's mother discovered a neighbor, Wilbert Rich, in the act of raping her daughter; Rich was sentenced to three months in jail.

Holiday, nicknamed Lady Day, was a seminal influence on jazz and pop singing and her career and impact simply can not be described in a single paragraph. Her vocal style - strongly inspired by instrumentalists - pioneered a new way of manipulating wording and tempo, and also popularized a more personal and intimate approach to singing. Critic John Bush wrote that she "changed the art of American pop vocals forever."

Holiday stated that she began using hard drugs in the early 1940's and by the 1950s, her's drug abuse, drinking, and relations with abusive men led to deteriorating health. As evidenced by her later recordings, Holiday's voice coarsened and did not project the vibrance it once had. However, she retained - and, perhaps, strengthened - the emotional impact of her delivery. On May 31, 1959, she was taken to Metropolitan Hospital in New York suffering from liver and heart disease. Police officers were stationed at the door to her room. She was arrested for drug possession as she lay dying. Holiday remained under police guard at the hospital until she died from cirrhosis of the liver on July 17, 1959. In the final years of her life, she had been progressively swindled out of her earnings, and she died with $0.70 in the bank and $750 (a tabloid fee) on her person.

I'm sorry, and I hope I don't get myself in a big ole heap 'o trouble over this one... but DAMN I'm sick and tired of those overpriced faux punk rock necklaces for debutantes.

But you know, I've loved the concept since first seeing a padlock and chain 'round poor Sid Vicious' scrawny little throat. Tough, sexy, submissive, owned... make of it what you will, but please return this fabulous idea to the streets and make one yerself, or buy the 2.0 version (more chain! Tight, choker-length Czech glass onyx black chain + 2 additional antiqued brass chains, and a perfectly rusted, perfectly detailed little lock, not vintage, but reminiscent of one you'd dig out of an old forgotten storage box at the hardware store. This necklace makes me so happy, and works well on its own or layered with lots of longer pieces. Working lock comes with two keys, one to keep, one to give to your keeper. Note: there is NO clasp on this necklace, the lock itself serves as the clasp.

Even I am not sure what to make of these cuffs except that... well, I love them in all their dark weirdness. Repurposed kinda sleazy black satin shirt cuffs become sexy and sinister with lace trim and embellishments as shown. One cuff is slashed so that a tiny bit of gorgeous blood-red vintage velvet shows through... then the gash is repaired with metallic thread for a nicely scarred effect. The other cuff sports two tiny genuine bones lovingly sewn into place. Original double black buttons left in place (could be moved); size will currently fit 5 1/2 or 6 1/2 inches. Lace falls over your hand in a very sexy and coy manner.
