working the craft diorama

here's my entry for the etsy craft or etsycraft magazine contest
this is a diorama of a craft room within a vintage sewing basket
called 'working the craft'
dioramas are my latest artistic passion
and when i heard of the contest that's the idea that came to mind
i create a little story while making the piece
someone has been working on the contest
a cat is ready to steal some yarn from the sewing basket
the room is stocked with materials to make a variety of crafts
because this crafter is a bit like me
a sort of jack of all trades
and the room has little details to make it more of a personal space
there's a record player so the crafter can work to music
artwork and posters, flowers and tsatchkes are placed throughout
the diorama has been created with a variety of materials
such as found objects, vintage toys, cake decorations, toys and beads
some things were created from scratch
such as the craft table and the cardboard boxes below it
the outside dimensions of the basket are 6 x 4 x 10 inches

i so love the famous monkeys
speak no evil, hear no evil, see no evil
come on, don't you?
i found them in plastic green bead form (vintage even!)
the bead is about 1" squared
i decided to make them into one of my avante-garde necklaces
i used vintage black plastic beaded chain
silver plate chains
and a couple of cute glass lime beads
the result is kinda crazy, maybe elegant
...definitely kitsch
comes to about 20" in length
i put a little leaf charm on the end to make it adjustable
now
i've been hearing about
how folks wearing my jewelry get compliments
i bet you will too

made in china can sometimes get a bad rap
but there's some stuff made there that rocks
and is art even
i have a lovely chinese porcelain bead
(about 1" long)
it inspired me to create this necklace
the bead's colors are used throughout the piece
lots of vintage bits in there
a lucite moonglow bead, some beaded blue chain (made in japan)
and some light yellow vintage plastic leaves
i also have some goldplated chain to connect the dots
the result is elegant and fun
kitschy yet pretty
the necklace itself is about 30" long

in honor of the rat lover on here i made a couple of pins
not to mention that halloween is around the bend
one black rat pin and one grey rat pin
both are about 4 inches long and about 3 inches wide
the grey rat is on silver black and red striped ribbon
the black one is on red white black and blue striped ribbon
both have cute little red beady eyes that look into your soul
pin them on your lapel so they can stare at strangers for you
when you catch them staring
you can tell them that the rat is omnipotent
and they best beware
when you order please specify which rat you desire
