Whether going out with the girls, an Easter Sunday event, or a wedding... this sweet necklace is sure to get noticed with it's Victorian charm and modern styling.

An antique brass floral embossed locket / compact with a mirror inside hangs on an asymmetrical strand of antique lace and silk strung, hand-tied freshwater pearls. Three lace roses with freshwater pearl centers accent the piece on the left and a single lace rose on the right.

There is not a clasp, as this can easily be slipped over ones head. (My model, Maggie is very petite which makes this piece seem really long.)

Approx. Length ~ 33" with a 2.75" Locket Drop. The locket measures 1.75" Dia.

All patinas are natural and created over time.
The Sea Queen of Connaught . Vintage Pirate Necklace

$48.00
Around the year 1530, Grace O'Malley was born into an unusual Irish noble family who were of the seafaring sort and taxed all who fished off their coast. Married to her first husband at 16, she led raids and plundered the Scottish coastlines and overthrew castles. In 1593 she met with Queen Elizabeth I to petition the release of her two captured sons and half brother. The Queen, who had taken to the Grace O'Malley, agreed to release the men from Sir Richard Bingham and remove him from his position in Ireland. In return the pirate queen would stop supporting Irish Lords' rebellions and piracy against England.

This tale has shaped my inspiration for this charm necklace. The chain is light weight with a brushed silver look. (Made in West Germany) The shape of the chain reminds me of a ship's rope. The little toy pirate gun is marked "ZEE toys" "FLINTLOCK". The embossed cameo represents Grace as a young woman before she cut her hair in order to embarrass her father into keeping his promise and allow her to sail to Spain on a trading expedition. The heart trio represents her three children, and also two husbands and a lover whom she rescued at sea who was later killed by the MacMahon clan (whom she sought revenge for by killing them.) The antique rhinestone button represents her meeting with Queen Elizabeth I. The four leaf clover with faux pearls and a rhinestone center is surely for good luck and all of this is brought and "held" together by a metal piece of a woman's garter.

Approx. Length ~ 18" w/4" Drop

(This piece is not recommended to be worn on airplanes or other places that at first glance it could be considered a threat.)

Re-Imagined Vintage Jewelry - Forgotten Authentic Vintage Pieces Re-created. All patinas are natural and created over time.

Artist Signed and Dated

Inspired by Grace O'Malley, The Sea Queen of Connaught

For more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_O%27Malley

The Old 8th Ward was notoriously known for its rowdiness and "the canal boating men tried to gain practical experience in every form of wickedness the town could ladle up". Through the diverse populace of immigrants, several chuches thrived. One in particular is the St. Lawrence German Catholic Church which was hand built by Father Clemens A. Koppernagle in 1869. He served as his own contractor and architect. He was said to have labored "day by day, for years, alone and unassisted, ...[he] sawed and hewed and carved until creations of beauty stood forth beneath his chisel and mallet." I have imagined that Father Koppernagle built a secret vault hidden deep within the church's basement foundation. The vault was filled with many treasures, relics, and secret documents during the Civil War. Father Koppernagle wore the key to the vault around his neck until the day he died. The location of the vault beneath the sod remains a mystery to this day...

For more information on The Old 8th Ward:
http://www.old8thward.com/
I thought it lovely and elegant with simplistic charm in the details.

The pendant hangs from finely ribbed curbed gold-tone chain and is secured with a new fold over clasp.

Length ~ 18" with a 1.75" drop.

Inspired by Richard Le Gallienne's poem, "May Is Building Her House".

"May is building her house. With apple blooms
She is roofing over the glimmering rooms;
Of the oak and the beech hath she builded its beams,
And, spinning all day at her secret looms,
With arras of leaves each wind-swayed wall
She pictureth over, and peopleth it all
With echoes and dreams,
And singing of streams.

May is building her house. Of petal and blade,
Of the roots of the oak, is the flooring made,
With a carpet of mosses and lichen and clover,
Each small miracle over and over,
And tender, traveling green things strayed.

Her windows, the morning and evening star,
And her rustling doorways, ever ajar
With the coming and going
Of fair things blowing,
The thresholds of the four winds are.

May is building her house. From the dust of things
She is making the songs and the flowers and the wings;
From October’s tossed and trodden gold
She is making the young year out of the old,
Yea: out of winter’s flying sleet
She is making all the summer sweet,
And the brown leaves spurned of November’s feet
She is changing back again to spring’s."

Re-Imagined Vintage Jewelry - Forgotten Authentic Vintage Pieces Re-created.
