This asymmetrical necklace is a multi textural collection of ten styles of lightly tangled vintage chains.

The left, which is supported by a large double oval chain, features a rhinestone centered filigreed flower which is inside of a large loop that displays the chain. Five golden chains in different sizes and styles of oval loops, dotted with faux pearls and metal beads and one large chain of faux glass pearlized beads, accented with rhinestone laden roundels, and a new black silk ribbon. Three of the oval chains come together and connect with a large filigree ball and morph into two different styles of oval chain and a rounded bar chain. These chains meet up and connect in the back with an oval toggle clasp.

Around the year 1530, Grace O'Malley was born into an unusual Irish noble family who were of the seafaring sort and taxed all who fished off their coast. Married to her first husband at 16, she led raids and plundered the Scottish coastlines and overthrew castles. In 1593 she met with Queen Elizabeth I to petition the release of her two captured sons and half brother. The Queen, who had taken to the Grace O'Malley, agreed to release the men from Sir Richard Bingham and remove him from his position in Ireland. In return the pirate queen would stop supporting Irish Lords' rebellions and piracy against England.

This tale has shaped my inspiration for this charm necklace. The chain is light weight with a brushed silver look. (Made in West Germany) The shape of the chain reminds me of a ship's rope. The little toy pirate gun is marked "ZEE toys" "FLINTLOCK". The embossed cameo represents Grace as a young woman before she cut her hair in order to embarrass her father into keeping his promise and allow her to sail to Spain on a trading expedition. The heart trio represents her three children, and also two husbands and a lover whom she rescued at sea who was later killed by the MacMahon clan (whom she sought revenge for by killing them.) The antique rhinestone button represents her meeting with Queen Elizabeth I. The four leaf clover with faux pearls and a rhinestone center is surely for good luck and all of this is brought and "held" together by a metal piece of a woman's garter.

(This piece is not recommended to be worn on airplanes or other places that at first glance it could be considered a threat.)

This necklace is a collection of lovely little antique and vintage pieces... a rose stem, a white faux pearl with a small fancy skeleton key with a white glass cameo head dangle, a 1940's rhisestone filled charm (the shape of a bottle), and a metal Washington DC transit token which says "D. of C. Inspired by the following...

Location: Harrisburg, PA Era: Latter half of the 1800's... The Old 8th Ward was notoriously known for its rowdiness and "the canal boating men tried to gain practical experience in every form of wickedness the town could ladle up". Through the diverse populace of immigrants, several chuches thrived. One in particular is the St. Lawrence German Catholic Church which was hand built by Father Clemens A. Koppernagle in 1869. He served as his own contractor and architect. He was said to have labored "day by day, for years, alone and unassisted, ...[he] sawed and hewed and carved until creations of beauty stood forth beneath his chisel and mallet." I have imagined that Father Koppernagle built a secret vault hidden deep within the church's basement foundation. The vault was filled with many treasures, relics, and secret documents during the Civil War. Father Koppernagle wore the key to the vault around his neck until the day he died. The location of the vault beneath the sod remains a mystery to this day...

The left side features a small brooch (back sanded for comfort) with rhinestones in dark topaz and orange, and a cluster of acorns. No clasp - slips over head.

Twisted like the tangled moss that hangs from a live oak tree, this asymmetrical necklace is a gleaming delight!

The right side begins with two delicate metal flowers set with large emerald rhinestones. The flower petals connect with three golden chains in double oval, curb, and flat bar chain that connects to golden bead and emerald glass beaded chain. These chains sweep and gently twist to the left side where they are joined with five oval loops. The back is finished with a small double oval chain, a single emerald faceted Swarovski crystal bead, and a new toggle clasp.

Trinkets and sparkly things...

Art Deco vintage prong set rhinestones have been decorated with a trio of old buttons on the right, one of which is smooth glass and two metal. The metal buttons include a small plaid button and a larger one with a crest of a crown, eagle and vines. The center of the necklace displays an old filigree Lisner piece to which a tassel has been added along with a faceted black glass button with an aurora borealis sheen. The left side displays a small key, a tiny black glass button with intricate detail, a leaf and a black metal star shape, filled with rhinestones.

The necklace is closed by catching the left and the right side together with a hook that is accented with a single rhinestone and a Victorian shoe button dangle.

Length ~ 16" w/ 2.5" Drop

Vintage silver-tone elements are less common than gold-tone elements, thus a bit more rare.
