This is an earthenware shaving mug, it comes as a complete set with the brush and a cake of yummy smelling shaving soap (1 3/4 oz.). It was thrown on the pottery wheel and glazed with splashes of black and white. The bottom is glazed and smooth and signed.
Try shaving the old fashioned way, a great initiation for the young man and a treat for the older gentleman too! The brush you will receive is the one shown, it is a starter brush and will last several shaves, maybe more.

Very earth friendly since this eliminates the aerosol can!

Seashells at the Beach...Handmade Tile Box

The seashells are in high relief and stand off the tile for a realistic look - but they are ceramic. This box has a very earthy, beachy feel to it, it is not slippery smooth but almost has a sandy feel!
Box size: 7". Hinged, cork in the bottom.
It is a 2nd, one seashell came loose and it has been securely re-fastened with permanent glue. :)

True Abstract Tile Box

The tile used was fashioned from a slab of clay, incised and hand colored. After the bisque firing it was coated with clear and fired once more. It is mounted on a 6" board and set permanently into place in the 7" hinged box.

I look out at the ocean each day and this tile is a reflection of the ever changing ocean that I see.

The dragonflies are handpainted, not decals and the tile is a high quality commercial tile. After painting the tiles I use a clear glaze and fire them in my kiln. This tile is set into a 7" wood frame with a keyhole in the back for hanging, take it down from the wall and use it as a trivet! Pretty handy!

Just for fun, a purple and green handled vessel. The body of the pot was thrown on the wheel and the throwing rings left in place for some texture, the handle was rolled from a hunk of clay and attached. This piece is lightly glazed and it will hold water however please use a liner inside to protect furniture from sweating.

Deeply textured throwing rings make this jar look beehive-like! This lidded jar is 5" high and it has a deep metallic looking glaze called Purple Bronze. Store some goodies in it but not food, this is not a food safe glaze.

Thrown on the pottery wheel with an applied slab handle this small pot or vessel is nearly 8" high and just 3 1/2" across.
The glaze is one called Purple Bronze; a very deep, rich, dark glaze; glossy and matte both on the same piece. This pot will hold liquid but the glaze is not food safe.

Thrown on the potters wheel with applied knobs to attach the leather cord, this vessel is 7" tall. This vessel is one of my favorites as I explore this new and exciting approach to my ceramic work.

The interior is glazed a dark color and will hold liquid. The exterior has a very thin coat of glaze; the colors are fired on and will not rub off.

This vessel with the lion heads on each end of the handle stands 10" from base to top of handle.
The body was thrown on the potters wheel and the lions heads and the handle were made separately and joined together.
I think these look like instant relics, fresh from the kiln!
The interior is glazed and it will hold liquid; the exterior has a very light film of glaze and is slightly porous. The colors are fired on and will not rub off.

Perched on 3 legs this basket is 8 1/2" tall from bottom to top of handle. It's glazed a deep and shiny metallic looking dark color, nearly black. The legs have been left unglazed and the handle is partially glazed revealing the texture.

This basket will hold liquid since it is glazed inside and out and has been fired to maturity, however it is not intended for food and is not foodsafe.

Standing tall on 2 legs this earthenware vessel is 6 1/2" high. The surfaces are lightly glazed so this piece is still somewhat porous. It will hold liquid but the surface will sweat.
Embellished with 6 old white padre beads: (These handcrafted glass "padres" were made of glass and were produced until the late 1800's).

Sturdy masculine black jar! Nothing frilly or feminine here. Stoneware fired, very strong ware. Lid fits nicely on this cylindrical 5 1/4" container.
The glazed surface has a metallic look. If you want to put it into the microwave (!) you could, it is also food safe and it can also be washed in the dishwasher.
The bottom is unglazed and signed by me. Plus, I have priced it in the bargain zone - I am destashing and making more!

These stoneware ladles have been glazed with majolica glaze and decorated with simple brushstrokes. The large one is a 2nd and is for a left-handed person, please see last photo; the edge touched the kiln shelf and removed some of the glaze. This will not affect its function of course. The little sister to the big guy has a pale, pale green dragonfly and pours to the right.

These 3 mugs do not match, sometimes matching is just too boring. The large mug holds a whopping 16 oz, the medium size (blue/purple) mug holds 12 oz. and baby mug (the creamy rust one) holds 10 oz.
All were fired to maturity and are food safe, can go into the dishwasher and the microwave. The 2 larger mugs were fired to a very high stoneware temp. - cone 10 and the bably mug was fired to the mid-range stoneware temperature of cone 5.
