This cowl is knit from a wool, acrylic blend yarn. The colors move from light purple to dark purple with little flecks of turquoise, red, yellow, and green throughout. It's knit without a seam and is great on its own, or for tucking in a jacket. At 22" around it will easily fit over your head, and at 8" tall you can pull it up to cover part of your face, or roll the edges down a bit.

Upcycling: the practice of converting waste materials into products of greater value. It's a term coined by William McDonough and Michael Braungart in their 2003 book "Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things." If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it.

Inspired by an upcycle contest Etsy ran a few years ago I saved my yarn scraps from all of 2007 and upcycled them into this scarf! I decided to make this an annual tradition, and have been saving all of my yarn scraps every since.

Every time you begin knitting an item, end one, change balls of yarn, or simply change colors, there is a new "tail" of yarn to weave in. (You never just tie a knot and cut your yarn. You always weave in a couple of inches to ensure nothing unravels.) Once the tail is woven in, you cut off the extra yarn. These pieces of yarn are almost always too small to keep, and are usually thrown away.

This unique, one of a kind scarf is made entirely from these ends, and as a result contains various types and textures of yarn including, but not limited to, 100% organic cotton, wool, acrylic, and nylon. It's knit with a nice textured pattern and is fully reversible. This scarf will match everything as it contains all the colors of the rainbow!

Feel good every time you wear this scarf knowing you saved this yarn from the landfill!
