What can be made from a broken yardstick, a broken stick from my yard, an old paint stirrer, a piece of old vinyl house siding and a discarded donut-hole of wood?? Well, after picking up hundreds of sticks that Mother Nature has scattered all over my yard, the idea of these whimsical super-sized flowers popped into my head!! I use these colorful posies to brighten up a dark corner of my garden, or to have year-round flowers in potted plants both indoors or out! I painted one for a friend with her house number on it, and it announces her location next to her mailbox. They are painted differently on both sides, so you really get 6 different flowers to enjoy!!
I'm sure you can come up with many more ideas for how to use these smile makers!! :o)
This set of 3 flowers stand about 38"-42" high and the flowers are about 8½" wide. The stems are sycamore branches that have had the bark removed, then everything is primed with 2 coats of primer and at least 2 coats of glossy acrylic enamel. The petals are made of cut up paint stirrers and sections of yardstick. The leaves are cut from vinyl siding from a torn down house. Even the screw on the leaf is recycled from an old switch plate cover!!
These flowers will give you hours of enjoyment with the extra bonus that they are recycled (and you don't have to water them!!)
Don't throw it out... just PAINT IT!! I sell these at craft fairs for $35 each, but you can have all 3 for $75.

What will you name your alligator/croc? He is a friendly little guy and does not menace other rocks. His natural alligator shape was created by Mother Nature and thousands of years of tumbling in the rivers--- I just added the colors.

Not for little kids who put things in their mouths, as he may be able to be swallowed.
Alligator measures about 2¼" x ¾" with a nicely rounded shape and smooth feel.

Small, only about ¾" high x ½" wide (about the size of a fingernail) these little ladies wear a fancy brimmed hat with a turn-of-the-century "dressing gown" style coat. Each holds a small bird. These appear to be made of molded plastic and are fairly uniform. With 14 pieces, you can find many creative things to use them for.

This is a classic vintage style (1940's or so) apron that still has timeless style!

No adjusting needed….Simple to wear- just toss the apron over your head and tie the extra long ties behind your back! Or bring them forward and tie in front! The two pink and white gingham pockets have elastic gathers at the top, to hold tissues, recipes or stray Legos that you find as you clean!
Classic rose print of cotton blend, is bound with matching solid bias tape and is machine washable and dryable. One size fits most. Ties each measure about 29" long, and the apron width at the waist is about 30" wide. Model stands about 5' 4" tall and wears a size 5-6.

What head of beautiful hair could not be improved with a beautiful barrette?? This little beauty is made of cotton scraps from my quilting projects, a broken earring (for the circle of "diamonds") a button found on the floor and assorted beads from a friend's craft drawer that were on the way to the trash. If you are like me and look for the beauty in everyday objects and overlooked items, then this is the whimsical barrette for you!! This is my "improved style" that features a beaded tassle in the center of the barrette that will hang correctly whether you use a left or right-handed closure of the barrette fastener on the back. The tassle puts me in mind of a more delicate version of Captain Jack Sparrow!!
The fabrics are mainly reds and pinks, with touches of other colors in the beaded outline and tassle, and the colored metallic threads. The pink button in the center of the rhinestone circle fastens it all together!
The barrette measures 3¼" x 1½" with the new metal spring type barrette just over 2" to hold fine to coarse hair. The face fabrics are stitched to a bit of recycled pajama fabric and backed with a scrap of sturdy iron-on interfacing. A beauty of a bargain at only $22.00!

These magnets are featured in the 2008 book from Lark Publishers: Creative Quilting with Beads. I was thrilled to have my work included in their book and this is a magnet made with the same technique taught in the book.

Made from snippets of cotton print fabrics, then layered to form the center of the flower and leaf, and finally hand beaded with details. Reminds me of the circular flowers that Mary Englebreit draws. Can be worn as a pin with another magnet underneath, and won't harm delicate fabrics from a pin. Magnetic brooches can be easily turned while wearing it, to move the leaf to create different looks.

Flower magnet measures about 2¼" round and about 3¼" to tip of leaf. Strong ceramic magnet will stick to most magnetic surfaces and looks great holding a special note, homework paper or memo. Use at home or work.

You know how Capt'n Jack has the dangling beads-in-the-hair thing going on? Well, it seems the movie influenced my designs more than I thought, as I had the movie on while I was making some barrettes.....could that be why I added the dangling beads???

I love to wear this style of barrette because people respond to it, as it moves when I do and catches their attention! The barrette is photographed on a wig.
If you like yellow, this barrette features a yellow banana print and snips of other yellow and golden fabrics, as well as assorted yellow & orange beads, buttons and sequins. The dangles are centered, so you can wear the barrette on either side and open either left or right-handed! Metallic threads hold it all together.

What little (or BIG!) girl would not love a Pinky Piggy Ballerina with soft pink tutu? She is a Winnie the Pooh admirer and wears him and his pal Piglet emblazoned in machine embroidery on her tummy!

She is made from a RECYCLED child's dress in soft, washable, fleecy fabric and her removable elasticized nylon tutu is made from the bottom of an "I Dream of Jeannie" costume. She wears a short hand-beaded necklace of soft turquoise to match her Piglet embroidery and bow on her ear. Her arms and legs are new hot pink cotton and she is filled with new polyester fiberfill. She has button features ( not suitable for a child who chews things!!!) and a red couched mouth. Because she is a One-Of-A-Kind handmade gal, her right leg is a bit longer than her left….just to prove nobody's perfekt!

What do you wear when going to a party? Rex wants to look festive, but maybe not over the top…but a party hat and fancy-schmancy necklace should set the mood!

Handmade, OOAK, needle felted puppy dog wearing a green dotty hat with red pompom……just what every whimsy-loving person needs to decorate a desk or unexpected spot on a shelf! And wouldn’t he be great for a Birthday gift??? He is ready for the BIG day! I will even gift wrap him if he will be a gift.

Rex tried on several outfits, including his Hawaiian surfing shirt and his Hippie tie-dyed T. But they all seemed too much for the casual gathering for his friend's landmark birthday party. How old is that friend again??? Seems like 280! Oh! Whoops --that is DOG years! (Let's see….How old is that in people years?.....280 divided by 7, carry the one, +pi= ??? Nevermind. YOU do the math! Rex seems to have a math block since he last drank out of the toilet!) Anyway, he decided to just sport his birthday suit-- 'cause what is better for a birthday??

Made of hand dyed, variegated purple wool (Merino, I think) over white wool base, Rex is needle felted by hand. His legs are wired for ease of standing, with exposed wire bottoms. His necklace is hand beaded and his hat is hand made with needle felted trim and pompom on top. His eyes are hand stitched beads over white wool. Orange wool nose and teal wool shoes.
To store him: he likes a zip-lock bag if you have wool eating moths or other critters, as wool can be moth-eaten over time. He has no skeleton and is rather delicate, so please do not let the kids or dog get him.

Roxie is a child of the 60's….a definite hippie spirit with a love of psychedelic colors and an "anything goes" fright hair style! She loves to recycle, meditate, and sings to the sun and full moon with frequency and was once seen dancing in the buff on a rainy summer night!! (But was she alone??) Not one for following the crowd, doing her own thing is what she likes best. Rumor has it, that she was at Woodstock!!

Bobby Blue Bird is counting the days til spring! He is happy because the days are getting longer and the red-red-robins will soon be bob-bob-bobbin' along!
Free standing, Bobby blue wants to cheer you with his happy attitude and cheerful song. Perch him near a painted bird house, or in a little nest, and he will be happy as a Lark!
Bobby measures about 3¾" high x 2" wide (9.5x 5 cm) and is all hand felted of wool with wire legs and glass bead eyes.

Felting is accomplished by stabbing sections of wool roving with a special felting needle which locks the fibers together and creates the shape. To shape a figure takes several hours to several days, depending on the complexity of the design.

This little doll pin was made as an entry for Lark Books new book: Quilting with Beads. While she was not chosen for inclusion, my quilted beaded magnet flowers are included. The book will be out soon. I hope to have copies available here on my Etsy site when it is published.

This little lady, with her waspy figure, would be cute displayed on just about any solid colored outfit! Two swirling red beaded wires with two strings of beads dangling below, set off the triangles and circles in this little work of wearable art made of an assemblage of snippets of cotton print fabrics and colorful threads! The pin is an original design made from all new fabrics and machine quilted for durability. All beads are hand stitched.

You decide what you see as I know others will also….and be ready for the inevitable question- "What is it?" It is little work of ART to wear!

Sturdy, yet beautiful, this rope basket or bowl will hold all kinds of items with style! The openwork handle details will support a medium load, as they act to complete the design.

This bowl is made by wrapping yards and yards of fabric strips around a soft rope, then machine stitching it all together in a coil design. The bowl is made of several romantic pink floral prints, blue florals and green florals, all circa 1980's and don't they make a lovely symphony of romantic colors?

This bowl measures about 12" wide from handle to handle and about 10" round. About 4½" deep in the bowl. Center is finished with an appliquéd flower from the main print.

This basket bowl would be perfect for holding all kinds of items and is a great catchall for things like cell phones, cameras, keys, or items that you do not want to forget to take the next time you go out! Or keep it in the kitchen to hold fruit or veggies to remind you to enjoy a healthy snack!

One of my favorite memories is of my mother hanging out our clothes on a Saturday morning…..after years of handling the clothespins, they were worn smooth with a soft patina from her hands. I have them now and treasure them still as I use them on lovely sunny days while I think back on my youth and all the things my mom did for me with her hands.

Maybe this bag will make some of those sweet memories for you and your daughter.

Made of vintage white linen with blue flowers, the fully lined bag is made on a sturdy clothes hanger and will hold a good amount of regular or pinch clothespins for several loads of laundry. Save electricity and energy! Eliminate the need for a dryer on nice days…..get that sunshine smell on your clothes and sheets! Hanger will easily slide down the line as you hang out the wash.

Everything old is new again! Bag could withstand the elements, but I recommend bringing it in after taking the laundry off the line. It will keep the clothespins clean….and start your own hand patina while adding memories to the bag.

Bag measures about 16 " tall x 16" long. One large pocket to hold your pins. Mom used to keep the regular clothespins in the pocket and pinch the spring pins on the edge of the pocket as in the photo. Starter set of 40 spring clothespins included.

Yum! This sock kitty looks good enough to eat! All citrus-sy and sweet! Her name- CANDY- says it all! She sports a big lemon-yellow fleece NOSE and black fleece eyes and is made of super soft microfiber socks in delicious colors. Matching orange and pink cotton prints for her details --- her ear linings, paw "socks" and tail. Her polka dot orange bow completes her look. She is as huggable as she looks and loves cat people. Not one for sleeping the day away, she is most likely to be snooping around, getting her big nose in some other cat's business!

When not snooping, Candy sits easily and measures about 6½" high when seated or about 9" tall on her belly. She is filled with soft, squishy polyfil and is made of all new materials.

Snow the pup, is One Of A Kind and got his (her?) name from his (her?) snowy white color and his (her?) January birthday! Cute little pup made from a pair of stretchy, fluffy socks. Snow loves the winter and to romp in the snow drifts-- but is so well behaved, he (she?) never leaves a yellow calling card! But better than that, he (she?) loves to curl up on a friendly lap and snuggle!

Snow is hand washable in Woolite and tumble dry on low to restore fluff and shape. (S)He sports button eyes, so is not suitable for small children. Well stitched, Snow can tolerate some active play but care should be taken to check the stitching from time to time.

Snow's friendly face is always happy to see you!

All items made in a smoke free, kitty friendly home.

Itty Bitty Pinky Kitty- needle felted little pink kitten

Shhhhh.....Listen! Can you hear Pinky saying "Mew! Mew!?"

She's a little bit of a kitten…..made with the needle felting technique of stabbing a ball of pink wool fibers (bought from another Etsy artist--www.DraigAthar.etsy.com!) hundreds of times, to lock the fibers into the kitten shape.

Such a sweet little thing. So young, she is still a bit unsteady on her feet. Hardly old enough to be away from her mama, but she wants to come and live at your house or your special place where she can keep you company and feel the love! Pinky measures about 4" high x 3½" long with her head about 2" wide.

She has stitched on iridescent blue glass bead eyes and black thread whiskers. Her nose is firmly felted into her face. Not a toy or for rough handling, as she is a delicate baby kitten.

Trusting and loveable, she is easy to care for and affordable to feed.
Purrrfect for a person who needs a kitten that will stay small and not grow up to be a cat!
