Berry Silk Bellydance Veil

In addition to being a textile designer, I enjoy belly dancing. And I especially love combining the two by dying my own hip wraps and veils. Silk veils float through the air so beautifully, and I can’t help but smile whenever I dance with one. This veil is a beautiful blend of berry colors, ranging from light pink to fuchsia to magenta. The veil is 100% silk, and it measures 45” x 108” (1.14m x 2.74m).

I would like to thank Habeeba of Habeeba’s Dance of the Arts in Columbus, Ohio for allowing me to use the school’s studio for the photographs of the veils in action. I’ve had the pleasure of being an instructor at the school for many years, and I appreciate the support that she’s shown me with my textile design.

Jade Fez Napkin

The pattern for this jade green napkin was inspired by Moroccan tile work. Each napkin is sewn from 100% cotton sateen and measures approximately 20” x 20” (50.8 cm x 50.8 cm). The batik pattern was painted onto the fabric using soy wax which, in addition to being a more sustainable resource, is far easier to work with in my home studio. The item shown in the photos may not be the actual one that you will receive, but it will be the same pattern and color. Due to the nature of hand dyed fabrics, you will see some variation in the mottled pattern of the dye. Each piece has a unique life of its own.

The listing is for one napkin, as I have noticed that most people prefer to mix and match the patterns and colors in this line. Please see my other shop listings for additional items in the series.

I based the pattern of this scarf on a tile pattern, but I think that the finished design has a patchwork quilt look to it also. It is very elegant, and the colors will brighten up any day. I created the pattern on the scarf by the batik technique, to which I've recently returned. I used soy wax flakes which, in addition to being a more sustainable resource, is far better to work with in my home studio.

I based the pattern of this scarf on an old Turkish tile pattern. It is very elegant, and the colors will brighten up winter days. I created the pattern on the scarf by the batik technique, to which I've recently returned. There are a few things that you normally will not see in my work. One of these is pink hearts. I’ve never been a pink kind of gal. But this scarf is named for my mother, who is a breast cancer survivor, so it’s my little way of showing her a bit of love.

The hearts are for all people who have been diagnosed with this disease. The hearts are for the families and friends who help their loved ones through their battles. The hearts are for the doctors, nurses, and researchers who work to care for the sick and to find a cure for this disease.

$5.00 from the sale of this scarf will be donated to the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. I will be participating in the Making Strides walk in Columbus, Ohio on October 25, 2009 along with other members of Etsy Team Columbus.

The pattern for this cinnamon brown placemat was inspired by Moroccan tile work. Each placemat is sewn from 100% cotton twill and measures approximately 14” x 19” (35.6 cm x 48.3 cm). The batik pattern was painted onto the fabric using soy wax which, in addition to being a more sustainable resource, is far easier to work with in my home studio. The item shown in the photos may not be the actual one that you will receive, but it will be the same pattern and color. Due to the nature of hand dyed fabrics, you will see some variation in the mottled pattern of the dye. Each piece has a unique life of its own.

Protect your furniture and add beauty to your space at the same time with these lotus flower inspired coasters. The set includes four periwinkle blue coasters, each measuring approximately 4.5” (11.43 cm) in diameter.

The coasters are made with wool felt. I recommend spot cleaning only; an oxygen activated stain remover works well for the immediate removal of liquids such as red wine. The felt was not pre-washed, as I prefer a crisper look for the coasters, and machine washing will shrink the coasters.

This is another scarf from my lotus series. The 100% silk habotai scarf measures 14"x72" (35.6cm x 182.9cm), and it would be great worn in the hair or around the neck.
