Dolly (print, unframed)

$25.00
STORY:
"Dolly" was inspired by a discussion in a feminism class that I'm taking. The phenomena of Barbie mutilation just fascinated me and I had to paint it. Many little girls will disfigure their Barbie dolls somehow in rebellion against her unattainable perfection, without consciously thinking about their reason for it, particularly little girls who are very far from looking similar to Barbie. My sister used to hang them and draw on their faces and pop their heads off, while I would brush their hair and make clothes for them and treasure them. It's interesting to note our different personality types now, with that in mind. This is the first in a series of "Bad Girls" paintings that will be available as prints.

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
The original was painted with watercolors in December of 2007. This listing is for a print, and the original painting is not for sale. The print size is 4" x 6" (10.16 cm x 15.24 cm), approximately, with a one inch space around the border for framing. This print is a giclee print, which is archival and museum-quality. You may note that it is priced higher than my other prints, and this is the reason - the paper and inks used in this particular print are of the highest quality, archival, and therefore more expensive. This is currently an open edition print.

SHIPPING INFORMATION:
This item will be shipped flat in a padded envelope via USPS First Class Mail. Please allow two weeks for shipping and see my profile for additional shipping details.

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS:
Please convo me for an exact quote on shipping rates to your destination! I have listed an approximate shipping cost and will refund any overage should you choose not to contact me first.

One Two Three (original painting, matted, unframed)

$50.00
STORY:
This painting was created using masking fluid. The fluid was applied, spelling out words in my nightly prayer. I'm not an overly religious person, certainly not a "pusher", but since I was young I've said this particular rambling compilation of prayers superstitiously before falling asleep. After I wrote the words out, I removed the masking fluid and worked on the painting from there.

The result is a spiritual and bright painting with lots of imbued meaning. Whether you choose your art to match your sofa or choose your art for its meaning, this is a beautiful and significant piece of artwork. The colors are lighter and brighter in person.

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
This is an original watercolor painting by Kate E. Austin, painted in 2006 on Arches 140 lb. bright white cold press watercolor paper with professional-grade watercolor paints. I'm working on measuring all my pieces and will gladly provide this info in a convo - though I plan on updating this description soon. It is signed by the artist and is one-of-a-kind!

SHIPPING INFORMATION:
This item will be shipped flat in a padded envelope via USPS First Class Mail. It will arrive with a custom-cut 2" white mat and will be backed by foamboard in a plastic poly bag for protection. Please allow two weeks for shipping and see my profile for further details.

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS:
Please convo me for an exact quote on shipping rates to your destination!
$20.00
STORY:
"Dive" was inspired by a poem of the same name penned and performed by slam poet Andrea Gibson (www.andreagibson.com). It's also about resurfacing after a long time spent "underwater". It would be a wonderful gift to give yourself, or to somebody you know who needs to be reminded of their strength. The last lines of the poem are included in the piece - "So you tell your son or daughter there are sharks in the water, but the only way to survive is to breathe deep and dive."

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
The original was painted with acrylic paint on Yupo paper (which is a synthetic plastic paper) and then paint was "erased" using rubbing alcohol. This was painted in January of 2007 and has shown in Saratoga Springs and Glens Falls, New York. This is a print, and the original painting is not for sale. The print size is 11" x 17" (27.94 cm x 43.18 cm), approximately.

SHIPPING INFORMATION:
This item will be shipped rolled in a cardboard tube and shipped via USPS First Class Mail.

$15.00
STORY:
You know the old saying, "Step on a crack, break your mother's back"? I try my best not to be superstitious, but I can't help but wonder "what if". And then I got to thinking about fault lines, and the fault lines in people, the cracks in people that I've stepped on and pushed on either intentionally or unintentionally. That's what this photograph is about. I had the idea for a while and was walking to an art opening in the rain when I saw the perfect crack for the photograph - and this photo was born!

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
This is a print of a black and white photograph taken in 2007 by Kate E. I created this when I moved to a different town and ended a four-and-a-half-year unhealthy relationship, and the original sketch read "Being without you is a lot like being with you - It's lonely."

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
The original piece is not for sale. It was created in 2004 on cardstock with watercolor paint, colored pencil, Sharpie and pen. It runs approximately 15" x 11" (38.1 cm x 27.94 cm). See my profile for details about prints. The print is a little brighter than this picture, and you can see the fellow in the house more clearly.

SHIPPING INFORMATION:
This item will be shipped rolled in a cardboard tube and shipped via USPS First Class Mail. I received a new camera as a birthday gift and decided to do a photoshoot. I dressed myself in an old crinoline and ragged shirt, paint on hands, and grabbed my favourite teacup as a prop. It's a self-portrait, but was meant to be just a beautiful photograph with a touch of Alice in Wonderland influence. The title is a line from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
This is a print of a black and white photograph taken in 2007 by Kate E.

I always thought that in your twenties, you were supposed to have some kind of Great Adventure - my mother rode her motorcycle up to Vermont to her ski house every weekend, my father drove cross-country with his dog, broke down in Tennessee, lived there for a while, and hitchhiked back - so when I painted this, I was waiting for mine (or it was waiting for me), and very upset that it hadn't fallen in my lap yet. Do you feel the same way, that maybe there is something waiting for you? This piece hanging in your home would serve as a lovely reminder that maybe you ought to take steps to get out there and find it!

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
This is a print of a painting by Kate E. Austin, signed and measuring approcimately 15" x 11" (38.1 cm x 27.94 cm). The original painting is not for sale. The original was created in 2006 with black gesso, regular gesso, caran d'ache, and watercolor paint. This piece has shown in several locations in Glens Falls, New York.

SHIPPING INFORMATION:
This item will be shipped rolled in a cardboard tube and shipped via USPS First Class Mail.
$50.00
STORY:
The writing here says "The thing I like about you is that you're like me." The two figures could be anyone, but in my life, it's me and my fiance Cory. We both like to lick the inside of the popcorn bag, for example. It's these kinds of disgusting things that we can share with each other, and that's a beautiful thing.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
This is an original of Kate E. Austin's artwork. It was painted with high-quality professional-grade watercolors on a block of wood that was first coated with gesso (tinted brown with ink) to create that unique texture. It is sealed with a matte finish. The art is signed by the artist and is completely one-of-a-kind. Because it's on a block of wood, there's no need to hang it! Simply propping it on a shelf or desk is perfect.

SHIPPING INFORMATION:
This piece will be shipped in a padded envelope. Please allow up to two weeks for shipping (I put this in here in case lightning strikes me or something -- normally I ship immediately!) and please see my profile for more shipping details.

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS:
Please convo me for an exact quote on shipping rates to your destination! A one of a kind work of art, commissioned for you or a friend. This makes a wonderful gift for a couple with a new home, a family member who takes great pride in their abode, or a great gift for the spouse who already has everything!

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Please note that this listing is NOT for the image shown above!!!
This listing is for a custom painting of a house, created with care by Kate E. Austin, using a unique process of watercolor paint on top of paper that has been coated with gesso primer. This process yields a unique texture and brightness to the painting. I use only professional-grade watercolor paints and gesso on high-quality Lanaquarelle watercolor paper. The size of the image will be is 8" x 10" (20.32 cm x 25.4 cm). It will be signed by the artist and is a one-of-a-kind personalized painting!

PROCESS:
Upon placing the order, please pay promptly. Then, e-mail one to four high-resolution and high-quality pictures to me at kate@aephemera.net, noting any specifications you wish to make (for example, you would prefer that I remove this tree and paint the porch green). I will then email you an image of the house drawn in pencil for your approval. Upon approval, I will finish the painting and once again submit the painting for your approval before mailing it to you - I will redo it until you are satisfied! If no satisfaction can be reached, I will refund 80% of the price for my time. I ask that you allow for two weeks for this process. Please keep in mind that this is an unframed painting, but the size is standardized so finding a frame shouldn't be much of a hassle for you.

SHIPPING INFORMATION:
This item will be shipped flat in a padded envelope via USPS Priority Mail. Please allow two days for shipping and see my profile for further details. If you are looking to receive your painting in a hurry, I might suggest overnight shipping. Please contact me for a quote!

PLEASE NOTE:
Do keep in mind that it is an artistic (not architectural) rendering, and that the style will be similar to that shown above. It is not traced, but hand-painted, so although attention to detail will be made, there will be some differences between the painting and the photograph you provide. There are more true-to-life renderings available on etsy - please be sure that you like my style of painting before you commit.

This was created as part of the 2006 Elements of Art Plein Air event and was displayed in the Elements of Art gallery in the Troy Shirt Factory in Glens Falls, New York. It's a wonderfully surreal landscape, dreamlike and very different from your usual park scene! If you love bright colours, this one's for you! The dark purple and magenta just leap off the page - I used up a lot of paint on this piece!

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
This is an original of Kate E. Austin's artwork. The size is approximately 26" x 34" (66.04 cm x 86.36 cm) and was painted with high-quality professional-grade watercolors on Lanaquarelle watercolor paper that was first coated with gesso to create that unique texture. It's also a nod to "La trahison des images" by Rene Magritte. Funny enough, I discovered while painting this that it's actually a lot of fun to paint trees! Maybe that's why everybody does it...

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
This is an ORIGINAL of Kate E. Austin's artwork. They're fun and a great little gift or graphic for a website.

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
This listing is for a custom cartoon of you or a friend, created rather crudely in MS Paint. Please take a close look at the examples shown in the pictures and place your order only if you're comfortable with exaggerated features and the style portrayed in the examples. The ones I've done in the examples are silly and include little "in-jokes" about the subject's personality. I can do this for you, include in-jokes, or something that's just a straightforward cartoon representation! Let me know what you want!

PROCESS:
Upon placing the order, please pay promptly. Then, e-mail one to four pictures to me at kate@aephemera.net, with a description of the pictured person's personality and interests. Please allow one week (it will likely take less time, but I like to be sure I can meet the date I promise) for me to complete the cartoon and I will email it to you! If, for any reason, you are unsatisfied, please communicate with me and I will do what I can to revamp what you're unhappy with.

SHIPPING INFORMATION:
This is not a physical item, it is a 400px x 400px (approximately!) bitmap file that I will email to you. You may print it out if you like, but that's all up to you!

I find the cognitive dissonance of our country and the gap between poverty and wealth just terribly upsetting. Measurements are forthcoming - convo me if you're interested!
