Tri-color BFL Wooly Cupcakes -- 4 oz of Hand Dyed Wool Top

This listing is for cupcakes of our Tri-color Bluefaced Leicester top. The tri-color top is made by combing together 3 shades of natural colors of BFL. The different shades give the dyed top many highs and lows in the colors.

SPINNING: The tri-color is a little spongy, and spins differently than our other BFL top. It doesn't draft quite as smoothly, but has more of a rustic look when spun.

BLUE FACED LEICESTER TOP -- 8 oz, natural color, undyed BFL

This listing is for 8 oz of soft and springy BFL top. A British breed, this is a very nice fiber--its soft enough for next to the skin items, spins easily, felts well, and is fabulous to dye.

SPIN: Its long staple and crimp makes for easy spinning--its a good choice for beginner spinners. It doesn't easily pil and has a nice spring to it.

FELT: BFL makes a lovely curly effect when wet felted. Its larger fiber diameter makes it a good choice for needle felting as well. It can be used for nuno-felting, but doesn't runche fabric as well as finer fibers, like merino.

DYE: BFL doesn't mind being handled when being dyed, and is more forgiving than most fibers. It wets easily, resists felting, and takes the dye beautifully.

This baby alpaca top is super soft and the color is naturally black. Check my other listings for fawn, grey, and ecru alpaca.

Alpaca is a little more slippery to spin than most wools, but the result is well worth it. It has a delicate halo and is three times warmer by weight than wool.

Alpaca can also be used for wet felting--just take care not to use too much soap and you should have good results.

These are like the crumbs of a wooly cupcake. Each little bit is 3-7 inches long. Fluffy bits in all colors about the size of the palm of your hand.

I've used them for felting and feeding my drum carder. I like to sort them by color first and them card them together--adding a little sparkle or recycled silk fibers. See the last photo of batts I've made--blue is just carded scrappies, the green batt has added sparkle and sari silk. These are also ideal for making thrummed mittens, hats, etc.

This listing is for an 1 pound bag--mostly BFL and merino, there is some superwash, but marked. Completely random mix of colors.

This listing is for 4 oz of silk fabric remnants. These are by products of the sari industry--so the textures and colors are varied, and some have metal threads. The pieces are 1-3 inches wide and a yard or so long, and most have raw edges on both sides. The raw edges make it easy to use them in handspun yarns. Ideal for rughooking, crazy quilt-making, jewelry, and felting as well.
The photo is an example--colors will vary by the bag.

I have used them for adding to handspun art yarn and wet felting (see second photo). I am told they can also be used for rughooking. The dye will bleed if washed in hot water--and when felted in hot water (the bleeding dye can possibly stain cellulose fibers--but won't dye the wool). Any questions, feel free to convo me.
