I have been gathering single unmatched teacups for a while here and there, knowing that I wanted to make pincushions out of them. I have a few of these functional pincushions around the house, and they work out well because of the weight of the cup.

Anyhow, here's a nesting bird version!

This bird is made out of cranberry felt with hand appliqued vintage fabric wings. The eye is embroidered, and it has fluffy fringe on it's head. Fluffy blue fringe makes the nest. Go ahead, stick your pins in it!

Here's a cozy house that's perfect to perch on your couch. It's made from a combination of vintage light blue lacy printed fabric, felt, and a button for a doorknob. There is blue and rick rack trim along the roof line, and the window detail has been hand embroidered. This house is 7" tall.

The designs are my own, and details are either appliqued or embroidered on. This cute little flower pillow is made with authentic 1970's flower power.
Well, at least it is made out of fabulous authentic 1970's mushroom-patterned fabric. The felt face has been appliqued by hand, and he has button eyes. Perch him anywhere you need a little pick-me-up.
He is 10 inches across from petal to petal, and is filled with new fiberfill.
He should be considered a decorative item, and due to the buttons and hand-stitching is not suitable for kids under 3.

White Bird in an Ivory Teacup Felt and Fabric Pincushion with vintage trim bits

Upcycled Appliqued Song Bird Pocket Purse

This strong, handy little Song Bird Purse is the fun place to stash your cell phone and pocket change. The vinyl/leatherette bird is designed by me and hand-sewn to a funky fabric sample. It has wonky stitching and a button eye. There's a fluffy trim along the top edge on both sides. You can see the front and back views in the photos. Check out the other styles, too!

These handy little purses (which are roughly 7" x 8") are made out of designer fabric samples (I have a mother lode of them, thanks to my visionary uncle!). Each is denim-lined and has velcro closures. The handles are strong woven material.

A note about my sewing skills: I tend to make these up as I go along, so I have to adapt my sewing depending on each piece of fabric. That means some stuff is hand sewn, some is by machine, and generally they all look totally handmade and a little rough around the edges. If you are like me, you're OK with that!

Patchwork Pillow Bird Doll made with Vintage Mushroom Fabric and Rick Rack

I had a chance to sit down and really look through my massive stash of vintage fabrics, and decided the perfect thing to make today was...BIRDS!

This bird pillow doll features a great vintage yellow mushroom fabric, a warm orange fabric (which is what the back is made of) and tidbits of a red mushroom fabric. Her wing is hand stitched navy blue felt, and her eye is embroidered. She's stuffed with new fiberfill and is 12.5 inches long from beak to tail.

Perch her on a pillow, or sit her in a basket of fruit. All materials are clean and details embroidered, so this feathered friend would be fine for most ages (but I trust you'll use your judgement!)
