Custom Woven 18th Century Venetian Carpet

$100.00
This carpet is a custom woven item. To date there are no pieces in stock. This may change in the future, but for now all interested parties will need to arrange for a custom order.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Due to the inability to actually list the true cost of such a carpet, I listed the price-per-foot. Let it be known that the $100 listed in the price column is the price-per-foot, not the total price.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Popular among the middle class in America from approximately 1750 - 1850 or a bit later, Venetian Carpet is an extrodinary floor covering to be sure.

Noted for its vivid colors and patterns it is a striped carpet with a close sett of woolen threads.
Traditionally the weft was often rags, but today can be anything the weaver wants to use.

Venetian Carpet was usually wall to wall in Early American homes but of course it can be what ever size is needed.

It was woven in 2 foot widths with the individual strips being joined together to form one large rug.

Here is just one example of the patterns available. This rug was woven from the draft ( pattern ) book of an 18th century weaver. The threads were hand dyed to match his specifications.
***********************************************************

It came from Silas Burton who lived in Ct. in the 1700-1800s.
He has patterns for at least five Venetian Carpets.

$100.00
Using 18th century weaving looms, I try to follow the traditional methods of handweaving both early American and early Scottish textiles.

Admittedly just beginning my journey through Scottish history, in particular Scottish weaving history I am fortunate to have good and knowledgeable people passing along what they know in an effort to see the skills kept alive for future generations.

My goal is to find and restore if need be, 18th & 19th century weaving/ spinning tools for use in weaving textiles from the same period.

So far I have four looms from this time period and a dozen or more spinning wheels as well as many of the accessories needed to use them.

For custom woven scarf of your clan tartan, I require three weeks for the weaving and a 50% deposit.

Please feel free to contact me with questions. Other types of custom weaving also available such as blankets, crib blankets, etc.

Kathryn
