Hand Coiled Stoneware Ring Holder No. 2

I arranged these coils over a rounded bottom and attached them together, as well as adding little feet to the bottom.

It is a rich variegated brown with a creamy underside.

This is perfect for a small jewelry holder or to hold a tea candle or a small soap. It is approx. 3 1/4" (8 cm) at widest and 1" (3 cm) tall.

I threw this on the wheel and when it was leather hard began carving into the clay, cutting some off here, carving some off there. Then I dipped it in a couple of foodsafe glazes.

Holds 12 ounces (350 ml) comfortably.
3 1/2" (8.5 cm) wide at rim.
3 3/4" (9 cm) tall.

First, I used a brush with an underglaze to decorate some tall plants for a background and later I added my own hand-drawn (by me) Dancing "Diva" Daisy laser decals and refired. I also added some commercial decals after that and refired one last time.

The red blush near the top of this piece is because of the reduction of oxygen that happened during the firing. It is a very desirable trait in any piece of pottery.

4 1/4" (10.5 cm) wide at rim, 3 1/2" (8 cm) tall.

Food safe. Microwave safe, but because of the decals, handwash only please. Cone 10 porcelain, gas and electric fired.

Teeny Tiny Creamy Pink Ring Holder

I suppose this would also be a good gum holder if you are the type to save gum. I don't think kids do that anymore, do they?

It is the perfect size for a ring or small piece of jewelry.

This was made by pressing a small amount of ceramic clay into the top of an acorn shell. I allowed it to dry, pulled it out and fired it. Then I applied three layers of glaze and refired it to cone 10 in a gas kiln.

It is pink around the top where the reduction (lack of oxygen in the gas kiln)turned it slightly pink. This is a desired result.

In some ways it resembles a small seashell. On the bottom is my potters mark.

It's too small to hold spices in. It would hold about a teaspoon or so. 1" (3 cm) wide across and about the same deep.

Foodsafe (and dishwasher safe too, though I can't imagine putting something so small into a dishwasher).

Just under 3 and a half inches tall 4 inches high. Nice toot toot sound ... like a train in the distance.

Don't miss all the interesting sculptures on this pitcher. A snake for a handle, a frog sits on the lid, the side of the pitcher mimics a riverbed with stones.

This was fun to make.

Wheel thrown, hand altered, sprigged, sculptured. Foodsafe Microwave and Dishwasher Safe. The lid is somewhat loose, so keep a firm grip on lid while pouring.

Three Sake or Shot Stoneware Daisy Cups

These each hold between one to two ounces of liquid. They would also make a sweet gift for a small girl's tea party.

These are glazed on the inside, food safe of course. See Photos. The outside is unglazed. There are small graphic daisies which I drew and transferred onto each cup. The biggest has one daisy, the smallest has 4, and the medium size has 4 daisies.

The biggest is just under 2" tall (4 cm), and just under 2" (4 cm) wide. The smallest is just under 2" tall (4 cm) and 1 1/2" (3.5 cm) wide. The medium size is 1 3/4" (3.5 cm) and 1 3/4" (4.5 cm) wide

These are dishwasher and microwave safe. The clay has been fired to maturity and is fully functional, thus fully food safe.

Red and White Porcelain Pitcher Vase

I hand built this from a slab. I used a graphic technique to impress some of my daisies on this in 3 spots (see photos). The inside and top of the outside is peach bloom red (food safe glaze). It turned red everywhere there was reduction in the firing, which is inside and part of the lip and handle.

The rest of the outside is bare clay.

It stands 6" (15 cm) tall and is 3" (7 cm) wide from the tip of the spout to the handle.

It dribbles, so I would use it for a vase.

Red Red Porcelain Bowl

This is the same shape as a teabowl, but child size.

The glaze on this bowl came out better than I ever could have expected. Notice the breaking of this peach bloom glaze on the inside spiral throwing marks, and on the outside of the bowl, too.

Holds 6 ounces comfortably. A bit over 3 3/4" (9.5 cm) tall, 2 1/2" (6.5 cm) wide at the rim.

Foodsafe, No lead or barium glazes were used. Cone 10 porcelain, gas and electric fired. Wheelthrown with a comfortable handpulled handle. Microwave safe, but because of the decals, handwash only please.

Yummy Casserole Dish

This stoneware casserole dish was thrown on the wheel and hand altered. The lid was fashioned by hand. The handle on the back is to hold a small serving spoon. This is 4 inches (10 cm) tall and 6 inches (14 cm ) x 5 inches (11 cm) wide.

This casserole dish is food safe, dishwasher and microwave safe. None of my pieces are made with lead or barium. This was gas/reduction fired to cone 10.

Suggested recipe: Smothered Chicken for Two.

Take two chicken thighs, coat in flour and quickly brown in olive oil until crust is formed (about 3-4 minutes). In small bowl combine 2-3 mashed garlic cloves, 1/4 tsp onion powder, 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper, and 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce, 2 tablespoons lime juice. Whisk together and pour over the chicken. Bake in oven for approx. 30-50 minutes until chicken is falling off the bones.

This was a joy to throw on the wheel. The handle is hand pulled. The spout was thrown on the wheel and altered. Little button feet were added and please notice the teeny button on the lid as well.

This is 4 1/4 inches (10 cm) high and 6 inches wide (15 cm) from the tip of the spout to the tip of the handle, but the lid of the creamer is actually only 3 inches (8 cm)wide. Holds 8 ounces (200 ml)

This creamer is food safe, dishwasher and microwave safe. None of my pieces are made with lead or barium. This was gas/reduction fired to cone 10.

This does not dribble.

Hmmm .... I don't know if right handers think about it much, but we lefties put up with a lot. Many mugs are made with righties in mind, (not that there's anything wrong with that) and lefties have learned to live with it, um, until it seems perfectly normal -- HOWEVER ... put a left handed mug in a left handed person's hand and the difference is felt immediately! SO COMFY!

I know ... I'm a leftie.

So with that in mind I made this mug. Thrown on the pottery wheel, hand pulled handle. Gas fired. Reduction. Holds 8 ounces comfortably.

These were thrown on the pottery wheel and splashed with glaze around the rim and flower splotches around their bellies.

Each one is unique but can be used as pen/pencil holders, or serving dishes (they are both food safe). I like upright serving dishes at family gatherings because they take up less table space.

These could also be used to place a violet containers in because they are solid.

They have about a million uses.

One is slightly bigger than the other, but they are both approx. 4 inches tall and 5 inches across the rims.

I used to make a lot of these types of mugs that you could wrap your hands around each and every morning. However, the handle, which I made big for that reason, can be a problem because with normal everyday use, bang it wrong and off it breaks. SO with that in mind, this is a very enjoyable mug ... but be careful with it.

The tangerine sheen in this small stoneware jar/canister comes out more in the sunlight. In normal light it is not near as noticeable as it is in this photo.

I threw this on the wheel and hand altered it, and hand formed a lid as well. It is glazed inside and out with a food safe glaze, except around the rim and underside of the lid where it has been left bare.

Reduction fired, cone 10. Dishwasher and Microwave safe. 5" tall x 4" at its widest. It's a little over 3" wide at the top. As always, the glaze is lead-free and barium-free.

This wheel thrown stoneware bowl is handglazed with layers of underglazes. Each layer was allowed to dry and then the pattern was repeated to build up to the desired color. I used as many as 4 layers, sometimes more, on each circular design.

It has been fired to almost 2300 degrees and is food safe. If this was mine, I'd serve mashed potatoes or a hearty stew in it. But you can do whatever you'd like with it.

This bowl holds 14 oz. It is almost 5" wide at the rim but wider in the middle), and almost 2 1/2" deep.

Of course, no lead or barium glazes were used. Dishwasher and Microwave safe.

I threw this on the wheel and the lid as well, but I hand altered the lid for this nifty look (see last photo). I decorated in various underglazes and glazed with a clear glaze in order to show off this marvelous stoneware clay body.

This is not glazed around the rim, but it has been sanded and is smooth. The lid fits nicely.

I hand sculped this doggie and then put him in a gas kiln with shino glaze to fire. He got nice and toasty in that fire. However, he's still ready to play!

I threw this on the wheel It was fired to maturity, then I attached hand-drawn (by me) Iron Oxide Decals as well as some iron oxide decals that I altered from digital fractals and refired.

No lead or barium glazes were used. Gas and electric fired. Microwave safe, but because of the decals, handwash only please.

I handbuilt this and it is perfect to place a ring or other small something inside. It could also be a small bud vase.

It is glazed with lead free and barium free glazes. Oxidation fired.

I decorated with black underglaze on the outside of this bowl which I threw on the pottery wheel and added foot for emphasis. Food safe glazes (in other words no lead or barium glazes were applied).

Approx. 4 inches rim to rim and 2 1/2 inches tall. Perfect for side dishes or whatever you'd like to put in it.

Dishwasher and Microwave safe.
