All the pieces are Bakelite, an early plastic, and feel very "soft" when you hold them in your hand. Would be great as a shawl pin or on a winter coat.

It is probably from the 50's with a high rounded dome shape. The other pieces are about the same age, deep red and applejuice bakelite. Overall, the piece measures almost 2.5 inches across.

The black Bakelite button was a coat button for sure, with its incised design and its big size. The golden yellow Bakelite buckle is in perfect shape and sets off the soft creamy center of the Victorian button nicely.

This is a very light, easy to wear pin that will evoke comments every time you put it on.

It is in wonderful shape and just shines like a gem. The Bakelite pieces behind it are both translucent, red and gold. The feel of the whole piece is like a parfait to me, though I couldn't tell you why if I had to. Strawberry Parfait.

The base was probably a coat button, while the tiger eye was probably from a classy suit. The small topper button is a shirt size and must have been on a glorious blouse. It is just so ornate and perfect it was probably the focal point of a classic silk shirt.

The Bakelite pieces behind it echo the edges of the leaf shaped carving and allow the fabric to show through when it is pinned to a coat or a blazer or a shawl. This pin would also look great on a hat!

The wheels and cogs are from a old watch, and the support button is an older mother of pearl. Nothing new, everything from the 1950's or earlier, and not as big as some of the other pins. A bit more subtle.

The profile is very subtle, so to make it work well from a distance as well as close up. I have rubbed permanent blue ink lightly into the chip. The color is sealed in, and will not come off, but it does make it more interesting.

Paired with a lovely deep green buckle from the '50s and a cute little red bakelite cog shaped button. They all fell together in one of my button storage bins and begged to be assembled. The deep red bakelite buckle forms the base and echoes the red in the plaid. The green is hard to photograph, but it is lovely and a very deep green.

However, you can certainly also put the pin into the shawl or jacket vertically so the pin will have a horizontal shape.

The flower is celluloid, the buckle is early plastic, not bakelite, but a dense plastic with a solid feel.

Oriental Green

$30.00
The Bakelite button here gives this sedate and quiet pin an oriental feel. The translucent green background with the black Bbakelite ring form a backfround for the cream and black button with a stylized design. These are all vintage pieces and the pin has a soft feel that modern plastics can't match. Bakelite is gradually disappearing from shops and flea markets, but this piece of history is still wearable.

The green translucent Bakelite circular buckle behind it provides a richer green background. This pin is smaller than many but still makes a lovely statement.

A departure from the usual here, no Bakelite, all metal and glass instead, but the watch face is vintage and so is the lizard.
The pink glass bead is the lizard's egg, and she is protecting it from all threats, as the pin will do for you.
