She lures men into the forest to have sex with her, rewarding those who satisfy her and often killing those who don't (not in Norway. The Norwegian Huldra is a lot less bloodthirsty and may "bergta" you - kidnap you and lure you into the underworld, but she is unlikely to kill you).

In Norway she has often been described as a typical dairymaid, wearing the clothes of a regular farm-girl, although somewhat more dazzling than most girls. Sometimes she marries a local farm-boy, but when this happens, the glamour leaves her when the priest lays his hand on her, or when she enters the church.

Description: 'Nøkken' has always been my favorite of all scandinavian folklore creatures.. Growing up I was always able to imagine him very vividly, sitting there alone in the 'foss'...

The Scandinavian näcken, nøkken, strömkarlen, Grim or Fosse-Grim was a male water spirit who played enchanted songs on the violin, luring women and children to drown in lakes or streams.

However, not all of these spirits were necessarily malevolent; in fact, many stories exist that indicate at the very least that Fossegrim were entirely harmless to their audience and attracted not only women and children, but men as well with their sweet songs.

Stories also exist wherein the Fossegrim agreed to live with a human who had fallen in love with him, but many of these stories ended with the Fossegrim returning to his home, usually a nearby waterfall or brook. Fossegrim are said to grow despondent if they do not have free, regular contact with a water source.

Description: Yuki-Onna: (snow woman) is a spirit or yokai found in Japanese folklore. The Snow Goddess, whose tears supposedly cause snow to fall.

Despite her inhuman beauty, her eyes can strike terror into mortals. She floats across the snow, leaving no footprints. She can transform into a cloud of mist or snow if she is threatened.

In many stories, Yuki-Onna reveals herself to travelers who find themselves trapped in snowstorms and uses her icy breath to leave them as frost-coated corpses. Other legends say that she leads them astray so they simply die of exposure.

The setting holds a 18mm x 13mm acrylic cabochon on top of my art work 'The Pirate Wench'. The band on the ring is adjustable so it should fit most fingers depending on how much you open the ring..

I really love this piece, not only because the model is my man, but also because of my heartfelt and strong bond with the ancient history of the Scandinavians - My people.

Also I wanted to portray another side of the vikings, the side of the men reluctant to leave their family and loved ones behind, the men who might want to stay at home as the farmers and peaceful men many of them where.. Certainly not all of these men where grusome and bloodthirsty..

The fact is that these men were regularly called to war by the king or their local 'chieftain', and where not allowed to refuse.. As in war today, some where cruel and using power to their advantage, and some only defended themselves and tried to stay away from harming innocent people...

This is a wonderfully detailed autumny art ring. It is in an antiqued silver tone. The outer border as well as inside border of the setting is filigree, shaped like autumn/winter berries & leaves. The setting holds a 18mm x 13mm acrylic cabochon on top of my art work 'Daily Report'. The band on the ring is adjustable so it should fit most fingers depending on how much you open the ring..

It is shipped in a sweet little gift box, featuring the art print on the lid..

About the Artist:

Name: Ida Mary Walker Larsen.
Born: December 1981

Is Danish/American, born of American mother and Danish father in 1981 in Denmark. She's been creative since childhood, continuing to draw when her peers stopped, developing her own style ever since. When the internet became available to her at age 17 a whole new world opened up. She got her own computer, bought a digital tablet and pen and began her journey into digital art.

Fantasy, nature and mythology are themes that inspire her the most. Dragons, fairies, trolls and elves are creatures of her world.
She's been doing freelance work since mid 2005.
