My Heart Is Locked For You Fancy Gourd

This was a collaboration between myself and Guy Taylor. It is permanantly locked (screwed shut) with a secret item inside.

This is a hard shell gourd carefully cut open, cleaned out, and then screwed shut. The woodburned text around it says, "My Heart is Locked For You." This would make a great romantic gift for an anniversary or Valentine's Day for someone with a poetic heart.

Here is what Guy has to say about it: This piece is something of a departure for me.
Typically I do gourd art that has a use, a purpose, something you can do with it.
Canteens, cups, bowls, jugs... that sort of thing.

Well, this one is absolutely useless as a functional gourd. It's art. At least, I think it's art.

My Heart is Locked for You is 3 1/2" high and 5" in diameter.

The heart on the lid is imitation gold leaf outlined by acrylic paint. The body of the gourd has been stained with leather dye and the whole thing has been sealed with lacquer.

The lid is fastened down by 4 brass straps. I guess you could unscrew the straps to find out what is inside the heart... but then the heart wouldn't be locked any longer.
And that's the point: My Heart is Locked for You.

Gourd Vase With Horses

For the collectors of fine art hard shell gourds, I just finished this vase featuring horses done in pyrography and a glowing sun done in metal leaf. The brim is decorated with sissal and is highlighted with a medallion made from a real buffalo head nickel.

Gourds sit best on a soft piece of fabric or a gourd stand or a wreath. (Stand not included).

There are some flattened marbles in the bottom to add stability.

For use as a sculpture or you can put dried or silk flowers in it. It is not capable of holding water or liquids however.

Finished with a clear spray for extra durability.
No patterns were used so you will not see these horses anywhere else. This is a one of a kind vase about 9" tall and 6" wide.
