Message from Artist:

Aluminum was created for the Periodic Table Printmaking Project hosted by AzureGrackel.etsy.com. A collection of artists from around the world created one or two of their own representations of selected elements on the table. I chose Thorium and Aluminum.

An aluminum soda can was used simply because it is very recognizable as an aluminum product. The pattern in the background are Bohr models of varies sizes representing aluminum (3,8,2) and the main subject is of a soda can. I choose aluminum for 2 reasons. Firstly, I was an avid mountain biker and apart from having carbon fiber on your bike, aluminum is the way to go. Go fast that is! Secondly, I was a mechanical designer in the aviation industry for 7 years and designed aluminum parts exclusively. I guess that I have a bit of a soft spot for this malleable metal :-)
