$50.00
Straght from the Voodoo Cafe to you, this lucky Voodoo Doll pin will keep you company wherever you go, bringing good luck, joy, and possibly whiter teeth. OK, we're not really sure about the teeth, but the joy part? Oh, yeah--

The body is about 4" long. Add 3" for the tail, if you're measuring. The hair, which is actual fabulous human hair, is 12" and has been washed and braided for a lovely wavy-ness.

Perfect for a coat or jacket but also marvelous on a bag or hat--you decide where, we'll take care of the rest.

Milagro Pin Doll--Mr. Joy

And what more could Mr. Joy need, really, to bring in the New Year and spread a little Joy through the land? Or at least through your own personal corner of the land.

He's almost 6" tall from his hat to his toes. His milagro arms and legs are moveable, and his bells jingle merrily. He has a sturdy pin back so you can wear him on your jacket, and he also has a beaded hanging loop so he can hang out at home.

He'll keep you warm and grinning on even the dreariest of days. Plus, of course, he adores the long hot days of summer.

From the tip of his hat to the toe of his left foot, he's just a squeek shy of 5 3/4" He has a pin back so you can wear him on your jacket to take sunshine with you wherever you go, and he also has a beaded hanging loop for hanging when he's at home.

Milagro Pin Doll--King of Spades

$45.00
The King is a pin! He's an ornament! He's Ruler of the Bridge Brigade! And he's just flat-out lucky: wear him when you challenge your mother-in-law to a game of Spades and see how quickly she folds~~

This funky little dude is one of the last of my series of popular Milagro Pin Dolls. They're almost all gone, and he's feeling cocky--not only does he rule The Cards, he thinks he rules the world. Who knows? It might be true.

He has a nifty little pin back so you can take him out in te world on your lapel, and he has a little beaded hanging loop so you can let him lord it over your game table, or your desk, or your entire house: hang him up, make him work.

From the tip of his right foot to the top of the hanging loop, The King is 5 1/2" tall. His arms and legs can move--maybe he'll send you secret signals about your opponent's hand or point out a potential parking space--his rule is all-encompassing, or so he claims.

The Artist's Hands Altered Dress

$75.00
The hands on this altered dress are made from an actual X-ray of my hand I made into a stencil. Except, of course, for the large beaded hand on the front--that's a fabulous piece of batik fabric a friend brought back from her travels. The dress is large and loose, with a slit on one side.

Very comfortable, it's perfect for lounging or layering or dressing up with jewelry. I like to think it also has protective properties for an artist's most important tool: those marvelous, wonderful hands.

Artfest Journal Skirt

$95.00
I made this altered journal skirt right before I got on the plane to go teach at Artfest. I was thinking of all the things I should have been doing--like, oh, packing, maybe?--but just having way too much fun making something to wear. I wore it there, and then the poor thing's been hanging in the closet ever since--for years. Unless it got photographed for a magazine--I'm sorry, but I can't remember. Maybe it's famous. You could be famous, if you wore this: people would want to know if you went nekkid when you weren't wearing artwear. You should always tell them, "Yes, I do."

It's a medium, about knee-length. Hand wash or machine wash on gentel cycle turned inside out (the skirt turned inside out, not the cycle) (I just toss them in the machine, but you're probably more careful than I am).

More fun than almost anything and sure to help you meet other artwear fans--enjoy!

When you're young, you feel invincible. But if you make it through love and kids and work and that Boss from Hell, well: then you're REALLY something fierce. This one was a lot of fun to make, and it's fun to wear, maybe with a red t-shirt and leggings.

It's a medium, about knee length. No pockets. Functional overall straps.

Give people something to think about, and maybe a hint about staying out of your way.

Santa Fe Journal Skirt

$125.00
This is one of the very first Journal Skirts I ever made. Man, what a long time ago that was! I've held onto it because I really like it, but I'm not wearing it; so it needs a home where someone will.

It's made from a pair of Silver Tab Levi's, size 32 waist, 34 length, so it's a little looser than the others and quite long: it's floor length on me, and I'm 5' 8". Looks fabulous with an old pair of boots.

It tells the story of our first trip to Santa Fe, with appliques from the catalogs and photos taken by The Ever-Gorgeous Earl. Stamping, writing, beading, buttons, rick-rack. It's totally cool and needs to be worn. One of a kind--that's for sure: I never go back and make more of these once I've done one.

I made the shirt from my own pattern--a simple two-layered top--and then appliqued a picture of Cutie Pie: our friend Roz Stendahl visited and sketched Cutie Pie, went home and painted him, scanned in the painting and e-mailed it to me. I printed it on fabric, stamped the whole story of the love affair between Roz and Cutie Pie, gave him a crown, and there you go. The story continues on the back, with a link to Roz's website, just for fun.

It's cotton, a size medium, very simple shape with no darts. Hand wash (I machine wash everything, but you're probably more careful).

While it was made to be worn, it looks pretty cool hanging on the wall, doesn't it?

$75.00
Here's another piece about the house we moved into in 1989. I love this house, and I made this piece to write about that. Once I finished it, though, I smacked my forhead and said, "Where's the orange?" Because, well, I just can't make something for this house without using orange. So this one's gotta find a new home so I can try again.

Note to self: don't forget the orange.

14" x 28", this quilt has appliqued hands (mine and my husband's--yeah, I know it's a cliché, but it's a SWEET cliché, OK?), stamping, stenciling, and hand stitching. Yes, there's a mistake in the stamping--can you see it? Almost everything you stamp is going to have some little glitch somewhere. And thank goodness for that: it keeps it from looking as if it were done by machine. Not that anything I do ever looks as if it's done by machine.

The back of this one is finished, with two little hanging loops. You might want to attach it to a rod, instead.

House of Joy Journal Quilt

It smelled right, it felt right, everything about it was perfect. Well, OK, maybe not the goose-print wallpaper, with the fat geese with the little ribbons around their necks. Maybe not that. But everything ELSE was perfect, OK? I made this Art Journal Page for the house, but now that it's finished, I realize I want to do it over in another size and color. Sigh. Don't you hate when that happens? So if this one finds a new home, it'll force me to get busy dyeing up some purple fabric. . . .

18" x 25", it's appliqued, stamped, stenciled, and stitched. The back is finished, and there are two loops for hanging it, although you might want to attach it to a rod, instead.

Sometimes you just need to be silly, and honeys, I am the best at that, as you can see.

This 15.5" x 16.5" art quilt is a page of hand-written journaling that ponders the question about why we take life so seriously and when it is that we forget how to play and be silly.

The photos have been altered, printed, painted, and stitched. They were taken by me or my husband except the photobooth photos, which were taken at the way-cool photo booth at Archy McFee's in Seattle. If you haven't been there, you need to go right away!

There are two layers of hand-dyed cotton with a layer of commercial felt between. A little machine stitching and lots and lots of hand stitching--the back is unfinished so you can admire all that handwork.

I used transfers of those old cigarette card images to go with the stamped text that says that, if you can't wear art, you might as well not wear anything at all. I was stamping the text on this skirt when I should have been finishing up the packing for Artfest, where I taught an altered artwear workshop. And I really do believe this: if you can't wear your art, what's the point of wearing anything at all?

Hand wash or turn inside out and use the gentle cycle.

Size 31 waist, approx. knee length.

In Vino Veritas Altered Dress, or Why Beer Sucks

Not to dis any of you librarians--I know some really cool ones of y'all!

Of course I had to help it out, so I cut it off at knee length, cut off the sleeves, scooped out the neck, and dyed the heck out of that sucker. And then got to work with the paint and ink and embroidery floss.

It tells why drinking wine is so much more civilized than drinking beer (no bad to you beer drinkers, either, 'coz I'll be you're not like our neighbor who gets drunk and then mows his lawn, wandering over onto my husband's lovely grass and taking plugs out of it with his mower).

Anyway. It slips over the head--the front is stiched closed. Hand wash or delicate cycle, inside out. It looks fabulous over a tank and leggings. Perfect for that patio party when you want to let people know how you feel about your favorite drink. ¡Salud!

My Coffee Jones Altered Dress

$95.00
This started out as the ugliest dress on the face of the planet. I have no clue how it got into my closet, but there it was: long, baggy, and this most hideous shade of khaki, some hue hitherto unknown to man. So of course I had to dye it. The first dye bath left it a pale, maybe-I-meant-to-be-orange color, so we tried again. Finally!

I cut it off to knee length, took off the sleeves, lowered the neck, and got to work. The coffee cups are a stamp I carved myself, as are the beans. The stamping tells the story of our Coffee Habit, wherein we hang out in the afternoons at the Starbucks by the interstate, watching the traffic and imagining the trips we'd like to take. Trips we could afford, perhaps, if we gave up that Starbucks Habit.

All my favorite baristas signed their names on this one in permanent pen. Hand wash or turn inside out and use the delicate cycle. It slips over your head--the front is stitched closed.

Size: large.

It looks fabulous over leggings and a tank, and it lets the world know how you feel about your joe.

Fat Moe Art Apron

$75.00
This is just the coolest apron. My friend Julia got the pattern from her mother, who got it from the nuns: the apron was originally designed to be worn over a habit. Check out those pockets--don't you wonder what the nuns carried in those, back in the day?

Rulers, probably.

Anyway, this is my version, and it's a tribute to one of my studio companions, Moe. He's sitting in the window over there as I type this, and I'm loathe to hurt his feelings by using the "f" word. Oh, not that "f-word." He's heard that one before. No: fat. Because my darlin' has a weight issue.

Anyway. This one's for him, with the names of all my cats over the years stamped in permanent ink. The fabric is hand-dyed by me in two of my favorite colors. You have to smile when you look at them. The pockets, as I mentioned, are huge: you could do your shopping in this apron. Or wear it in the studio, where you can carry brushes and paper and tools and, sheesh, just about everything you need. There's a slit up the back. Size: fits just about anyone.

A Famous Shirt, indeed.

And, whew, am I exhausted.

There's no size in it, but I'm a medium, snd you can see how it fits me.

Handwash. It's linen, and if you like your linen pressed (aieeee!), iron on the wrong side. But, really, who irons any more? Tumble dry and hang it up and have fun wearing it!

Voodoo Cafe Swing Jacket

$275.00
This began life as an off-white Old Navy coat. Off-white? Yikes! Hand-dyed in best tie-dye fashion with permanent dyes, it's then stitched and appliqued. The appliques are flannel, and yes, the hair on the voodoo dolls is real. And yes, all that purple stitching is by hand.Flannel covered buttons, some random beading.

It's listed as an XXL--you can see how it fits me, and I'm sort of a medium--it should fit a range of sizes pretty comfortably.

You can wash this very gently--the hair is glued and stitched in place, so just don't leave it soaking for hours.I've had great luck laundering pieces with this technique for the doll's hair.

This is not a coat for the shy. You'll get noticed, and you'll have a fabulous time. Plus the voodoo is the Very Best Kind.
