Cottage Garden Charm Necklace

$46.00
Lavender, sky blue, aqua, teal...all the colors of an English cottage garden are tied together with a sterling chain with a luminous silvery-gray patina.

Charms of teal Czech crystal, pale aqua freshwater pearls and a hand-wrapped, faceted sky blue glass briolette dangle from a sterling chain interspersed with iolite and Hill Tribe silver beads, and are accented by a Hill Tribe silver dragonfly. Each piece of the center dangle is hand-linked together, and then I apply a patina and burnish it for a vintage look.

The colors in the first two photos are accurate - the third picture simply wouldn't cooperate, but I wanted to include a full-length view.

Necklace is approximately 16 1/2 inches long.

Gypsy Road - Bohemian, Hill Tribe Silver and Pearl Necklace

$57.00
I really couldn't tell you why, but this necklace makes me think of spur-of-the-moment road trips with no predetermined destination. Just putting on your favorite ripped up jeans and a vintage lace top, and hitting the road just to be going somewhere. This is the necklace I would take, along with some funky rings I picked up at a flea market that looked like they'd traveled the world, and a silver bangle bracelet that I traded one of my silver bangles for with a total stranger at an outdoor Pearl Jam/Ramones concert festival the summer that "Yellow Ledbetter" was on continuous rotation on all the grunge radio stations. (Does anyone remember pirate radio?)

This particular necklace was difficult to photograph - the freshwater pearls are a rosier pink than they appear in the photos, and they're a fairly deep rose color. They don't really have any orangy tones in them at all. They're interspersed with paler rose faceted Czech crystals and Hill Tribe silver cubes beads, spaced along two types of antiqued sterling silver chain. The pendant is a Hill Tribe silver flower - it resembles a dogwood flower, but not exactly. (If anyone knows what it is, please let me know!) All the silver has been hand-patinated and burnished, and is a lustrous dark silvery-gray.

Necklace measures approximately 16 inches long.

The look is both rustic and sophisticated at the same time. The lavender-gray iolite looks fantastic with the dark gray of the patinated sterling cable chain - a bit bohemian, yet very elegant. A vintage feel, but with a fresh approach.

Hill Tribe Silver 95-99% pure, which is purer than sterling.

Necklace measures approximately 16 inches long.

It can add a feminine touch to a simple linen dress or even a denim work shirt.

Now picture it with basic black...

This piece is one of several inspired by the amazingly detailed artwork of James Christensen. All antique gold parts are cast metal, rather than the thinner stamped pieces. This results in a higher quality look and feel.

Necklace measures approximately 18 inches/45.72 centimeters long.

Most pieces in the Grace Belle Collection may be custom ordered as rosaries - convo me for details.

Alamogordo - Organic Southwestern Style Turquoise, Pewter, Sterling, and Handmade Glass Southwestern Necklace

$73.00
I lived in Alamogordo, New Mexico, from the time I entered junior high until I graduated high school in 1978. I hated every minute of it.

Alamogordo is not the New Mexico you see romanticized in the travel magazines or the southwestern home decor books. It is not artsy Santa Fe, or sophisticated Taos . It's a little hick town in the middle of the desert. There was no culture, there was no entertainment; there was just a big, steaming pile of Nothing To Do. They didn't even have a McDonald's until long after I had moved away. Nowadays I would consider that an plus, but to a revved up teenager who's heart (and family roots) were in New York City, this was an intolerable situation.

Starting when I was 16 years old, I had what was considered the primo job in town - working at the car wash. This was considered the primo job because, even though we were only being paid $2.13 an hour, overtime included, it was about the only place that you could actually get more than 20 hours a week. It was also a job where you could work on your tan and earn money at the same time, since the work was conducted entirely outdoors. (We didn't know tanning was bad for us back then!)

We all loved when a thunderstorm would pass through, because it usually meant an hour or so of getting paid to sit inside and drink Cokes while the manager, Sonny, tried to decide if it was going to clear up, or if he should send us home for the day.

Inevitably, the sky would clear up and turn an incredible shade of turquoise, and we'd go back to work. But the intensity of the color of the sky after those thunderstorms is something I have never seen in any of the many places I have lived since. My "'Alamogordo" necklace is meant to represent the color of those post-storm skies, combined with the sage coloring of what little vegetation there was in the surrounding desert - mostly cacti and scrubby grasses.

This necklace is a showpiece. A heavy chunk of wonderfully veined turquoise is set off by the mellow glow of pewter accents, and just enough sage green hand crafted glass from India. A sterling rope chain and sterling clasp complete the piece, which measures approximately 19 inches/48.26 centimeters.

Orogrande - Turquoise, Jasper and Pewter, Organic Style Southwestern Necklace

$99.00
True story:

I went to high school in Alamogordo, New Mexico, a small town about 1 1/2 hours from El Paso, Texas. For fun, we used to pile into a '67 Volkswagen Beetle and drive to El Paso and go to the Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor to have a sundae. (Entertainment comes hard in the desert...)

Approximately halfway between Alamogordo and El Paso, close to the Texas border, is a tiny town called Orogrande. At that time, Orogrande had a population of 13.

(Well, until one of the residents caught one of the other residents sleeping with his wife, and promptly shot him. Then the population dropped to 11 - one was dead, and the other went to jail.)

Near the town of Orogrande was a bar - a "Last Chance Saloon" type of place. It had a reputation as a somewhat dangerous place, and we all avoided it. During our senior year, a bunch of us were on our way to El Paso one Saturday afternoon, when one of the gang had a serious need to use a restroom. You can't just go into the bushes or behind a tree out there; this is true desert we're talking about - no bushes, no trees, nothing but tumbleweeds, roadrunners and rattlesnakes. Oh, and scorpions and tarantulas. It's all desert. So...we stopped at the bar near Orogrande.

Have you ever heard that Bob Seger song, "Turn the Page"?

"Well, you walk into a restaurant all strung out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you as you're shaking off the cold
You pretend it doesn't bother you, but you just want to explode

Most times you can't hear 'em talk, other times you can
All the same old clichés, is it woman is it man?
You always seem outnumbered, so you don't dare make a stand"

Well, this was just like that song. It was the 1970's, and most of the guys in our group had long hair. And we had entered a bar filled with hard-core rednecks who had no use for a bunch of teenage hippies. Our friend with the small bladder ducked into the restroom, and the rest of us stood around feeling extremely uncomfortable. Inevitably, one of the guys started whispering about how this was "just like that song, man!", and the rest of us started quietly laughing at what complete hillbillies these guys in the bar were, compared to us ultra cool kids...

Well, you guessed it...some of the rednecks took offense at our laughing at them. A few bits of heated conversation ensued, and just as things were starting to look scary, our friend came out of the restroom and we all hightailed it for the car...with the shouts and boastful threats of the rednecks ringing in our ears as we shoved each other out of the way in our haste to get to the safety of the Beetle.

So what does this story have to do with a turquoise necklace? Well, not a darned thing, actually, except for the fact that at that point in time, turquoise was a southwestern cliché, and as an oh-so-cool teenager, I wouldn't have been caught dead wearing the stuff. But now I love it, and I've named this necklace after the town where being so cool almost got our butts thoroughly kicked.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Turquoise, Jasper, lead-free pewter. Sterling rope chain and sterling clasp. Measures approximately 19 inches / 48.26 centimeters.
A rare Rose Gold chain and copper hook and eye clasp complete the piece.

The amber positively glows in natural light, and the matte-finished jade bead has a wonderful semi-translucent quality. Additionally, the amber has some very nice inclusions (click the picture to enlarge), which add interest to the piece. This bracelet can be layered with others for a bohemian look, or worn by itself with a simple beige outfit for a more sophisticated feel.

Bracelet measures approximately 7 inches/17.8 cm. The extender drop adds approximately another 1 inch/2.5 cm. I can adjust the length if necessary.

FREE SHIPPING IN THE U.S. BY UPS OR PRIORITY MAIL. Shipping outside the U.S. will be billed for cost, but the first $5 is free.
