Casein needles are the tortoise-shell knitting needles of the future. These needles are made out of a natural organic protein polymer which is non-toxic to make! Talk about some green knitting going on!!

These needles feature hand tapered tips, which are polished to a glass-smooth finish, allowing the yarn to slip easily for quicker knitting. They have the perfect blend of flexibility and rigidity to create a firm, comfortable knitting needle that allows smooth effortless knitting. Being a non-thermo plastic it is non-static, thereby eliminating "fluffy" knitting.

Due to the nature of these needles, they are perfect for knitters who don't like the cold touch of metal as they are smooth and warm to the touch yet flexible and strong enough for the most demanding knitters. Perfect for knitters who want something a little different than wood. I have a set of each size and absolute adore them:)

Single Point Timbergrain Needles
Size: US 7 or 4.5mm
Length: 12"

Please note, the set of needles you are purchasing may not be exactly as pictured. Casein means 'protein of milk, the basis of cheese" and is a dried milk product often used in high protein dietary foods. It therefore comes from a naturally renewable resource and is biodegradable, thus being a totally environmentally friendly product.

Flicker for cleaning wool locks and carders - Howard Brush Co.

$14.50
With 54 teeth per inch, the Howard brush company flicker is perfect for those of us who prefer to spin from the lock or work with fleece. The flicker is 8.5 inches by 1.5 inches. The gentle curve of the handle allows the flicker to rest nicely in your hand. As you can see from the photos, the flicker is used by brushing the ends out of a lock of fleece. This removes veggie matter and short bits prior to spinning or carding or felting.

The Howard Brush Company flicker also works wonders when it comes to cleaning your hand carders or drum carder, helping to remove left over bits of fluff from the cloth of your carder at the end of a carding project.

I honestly do not know what I would do with out a flicker as they are such a very versatile tools when it comes to fiber arts.

Please use your flicker with caution as the teeth can scratch you if used improperly.

Proper use of your flicker......
Hold a lock of fleece by one end in one hand near the end. Using the carder in your other hand, gently brush out the end of the lock. Hold the lock by the 'just brushed out end' and repeat the process. Be very careful not to brush the hand you are using to hold the lock as the teeth of the flicker will scratch your skin.

This is not a toy so please do not let children play with the flicker unsupervised.

Mind, this does not in any way shape or form compramise the softness of BFL yarn.

With 1860 yards per pound these 4 ounce skeins with 465 yards per pound will give you ample yardage for a pair of socks or a small lace project.

BFL Sock (1 skein)
Superwash BFL wool
4 ounces/114 grams
465 yards / 425 meters
Gauge: 8-10 stitches per inch on US 0 - 2 (2.00 - 2.75mm).
Colorway: Zydeco Bayou (Last pic is a sample knit in Merino Sport)

Care: For fine knit items, I recommend hand washing in cold water with Soak fiber wash and laying flat to dry. As this is superwash wool, you are safe enough to toss them in the washing machine on the gentle cycle with cold water then lay flat to dry.

Price is per skein.

Want to save some money on your next purchase?
$30.55
Wacky Batty's are odd ball One Of A Kind creations made for your spinning pleasure.

I simply can not begin to describe how luscious these batts are! Well, I can start with an OMG. These started as part of my fiber club. Honestly, if I have to look at either of these selections for too terribly long, THEY WILL BE SPUN!

It all started with a mess of fibers I received from a supplier (note, we will not be using this supplier ever again!). The tangled mess started as a wad of pure white 60% mulberry silk tangled together with about 40% merino here and there. I'm very thrifty, so I really could not tolerate the idea of chucking this soft fiber. Off to the carder I went. After the first pass through the carder, I started stripping the batts into 5 peices. Taking one strip from each batt, I would send the batts back through the carder. This was done 10 times!

Once the prime consistency was met in these batts, I added a touch of green and blue glitz as well as silk noils and neps and sent them back through one more time. At this point, I'm sure you have seen my shop and know that I'm a HUGE fan of color. I blended several batts consisting of earthy brown merino and camel; brown merino, black corriedale, green sari silk and natural camel down; ocean blue and warm teal merino topped with black corriedale and blue tussah silk; and last but not least hand dyed aqua alpaca fleece, ecru bamboo, and snow white firestar. These fun batts were then layered into the final result which you see here. Oh, yes, there is a touch of white banana fiber in there.

We had a discussion a while back on the Etsyfast group about pricing. If I calculate the price of these batts by my time, I have well over 17 hours into these batts and at minimum wage of $7.25 the hourly price of my work would be $123.25.

Two batt groups available each weighs 4.7 ounces. Price is per 4.7 ounce.

Ingredients: Alpaca, Merino, Firestar, Mulberry, Tussah, Sari, Camel, Silk, Corriedale, Glitz, - 4.7 oz 134 grams

What you see is what you get:)

Thanks to the 100% merino your feet can luxuriate in smooth softness. I don't know about you, but I am constantly suffering from second sock syndrome. In other words, I will finish one sock and the other pair will hang around on the needles for a year or more. The yarn I picked has 1322 yards per pound and will knit up very quickly on US size 3-5 needles, thus helping us all put an end to SECOND SOCK SYNDROME.....

This yarn is superwash, so it should be washing machine safe on the delicate cycle, but to be on the safe side, I would still say it is a good idea to lay your knit or crochet articles flat to dry.

Sport / DK weight
3 ply
410 yards
Colorway Perdido Key

Depending on how large your sock is, the color separation for this skein should be one color plus or minus per row.

Louet Victoria S95 THE PERFECT TRAVEL MATE

$740.00
I added one of these to my spinning herd not to long ago. Let me tell you! I LUUUUURVE IT! Not only can I spin some fun art yarns with it due to the 1/2" orifice, but I really am enjoying the fact that I don't need to remember what I have done with my orifice hook each time I start on new roving or break my single.

If you are looking for something with a small carbon foot print you will love this wheel. With out disassembly it should fit very neatly in your car. Of course to top that off, Louet has made it very easy to take apart for traveling the friendly skies. My carry bag measures 22"x 14" and has a few extra pockets for storage. The large one in the front is spacious enough to hold at least a 1/2 pound of roving!

If I knew when I started my spinning adventures how wonderful this wheel was, I would have bit the bullet so to speak and got one of these little spinners. It truly is a joy to spin on.

The Victoria is not like your everyday spinning wheel. It’s light, portable and incredibly easy to use. The Victoria has been designed with precision and care, from advice recieved by today’s hand spinner.

Wheels are made of laminated hardwood with a "birch" exterior finish.

Features & Benefits

Weighing only 6lbs makes it light enough to go anywhere

Ratios of 1:6, 1:8.5 and 1:13
Optional High Speed Set provides an extra 1:19 ratio.

Can easily fold in half, making it very portable

Available in Classic Oak or ContemporaryBeech

Scotch Tension Brake System gives you an unlimited range of tension

Well made with care and precision in Holland.

For over a quarter century, the Louët team in Holland has been researching, designing, experimenting, and consulting with you, the customer, to create a superior line of spinning wheels.

Louët wheels treadle lightly, are low maintenance and nearly adjustment free and can be modified with accessories for the expert spinner.

Louët wheels were originally geared towards spinning medium to heavy yarns. Although bobbins and flyers are available for spinning this type of yarn, the standard wheels have been redesigned to be more suitable for spinning fine to medium yarns. The orifice on the standard wheel is sufficiently large (12.5 mm or 1/2") as are the bobbins, (180-250 gr capacity), to allow you to create novelty yarns.
Wheels come equipped with a two bobbin lazy kate.

Technically all Louet models are the same. Each wheel has a single belt bobbin drive with an adjustable flyer brake to regulate the tension. The flexible belts are made of polyurethane and never have to be adjusted.

All wheels are packed and shipped partially assembled in a flat box. The required assembly consists quite simply of tightening two nuts for which tools and instructions are provided. The shipping weight is 17-18 lbs.

Wheels are made of laminated hardwood with a "birch" exterior finish.

Ratios
All bobbins have a sheave with three settings on one side that can be used to obtain three different spinning ratios. They are: 1:5.5 for slow spinning and heavy yarn; 1:7.5 for medium yarn; and, 1:10.5 for fast spinning and fine yarn. (S45 ratios are: 7:1, 12:1 and 20:1)

The fly wheels of all our models are 50 cm (20") in diameter (except for the S45). They rotate on a maintenance free, lubricated for life ball bearing pack to ensure excellent spinning ability by allowing them to turn freely and quitely. The same maintenance free ball bearing is used at the footman connection. (Absolutely no lubrication is necessary for the bearings to work correctly)

Well, at least not on my monitor. It is green, but more of a wonderfully hued deep hunter green. The soft squishy merino 80's count top lent it's self to the green cotton binder thread to create luscious hives and sinfully soft coils. Spun thick and thin, this yarn will look gorgeous in any garment.

111 yards
120 g / 4.2 ounces

Howard Brush Mini Hand Carders 72 TPI

$46.00
Howard Hand Carders are handcrafted in Woonsocket, Rhode Island and they are manufactured to the exact specifications developed by the founders of the Howard Brothers Company in 1866. Each hand card is formed using select woods, with a gently curved compromise between flat and strongly curved cards, allowing for both styles of carding action. The handles are ergonomically designed to shape and fit, easy to orient, sturdily attached to the carder back and finished with a warm hand-rubbed sheen. These traditionally made hand cards are offered in 3 sizes: Standard, Student and Mini, and in several Teeth Per Inch (TPI) densities for the fiberarts community.

This particular set is a pair of the Mini Hand Carders perfect to slip into your fiber basket and take where ever you and your fiber obsession go. The TPI or Teeth Per Inch is 72 making the pair perfect for most fibers including wool and adult alpaca.

Carding paddles measure 4.5 x 4.25 inches. Entire size of carders are 9.25 x 4.5 inches.

I would not recommend this set for cria, cotton, angora, cashmere and camel. Look for the 120 TPI cloth available in my shop for use with these fibers.

$23.00
I bet you are wondering what the heck I am talking about! Well, I start by hand dying various tops. Then I pick my colors and fibers to be drum carded and card until I am happy with the consistency. From there I use my upcycled diz to pull the fiber off of my carder.

Diz - a fancy word for 'something with a hole punched through it, through which fiber is pulled'.

A little muddy slice of the rainbow this Diz is. Started with a base of hand dyed warm chocolate romney, added a touch of grassy green merino, a sliver of multi colored silk, natural bamboo top, turquoise firestar and I think there might be a smidgen of royal blue mohair here as well.

Hand Dizzed Romney, Merino, Firestar, Alpaca, Bambo, Silk Roving - 4.6 oz 132 g

Please note... Hand dizzed rovings are NOT created at a mill. Each batch is custom blended by me on my hand cranked drum carder and then dizzed by hand off the carder. Yes, it is time consuming, but the end results are in my opinion 'Out of this World' awesome! If you see a color you missed out on and would like me to try to reproduce it for you, I'm happy to give it a shot:) Large or small, custom orders are always appreciated:)

Howard Brush Standard Hand Carders 72 TPI

$52.00

This particular set is a pair of the Standard Hand Carders perfect to slip into your fiber basket and take where ever you and your fiber obsession go. The TPI or Teeth Per Inch is 72 making the pair perfect for most fibers including wool and adult alpaca.

Carding paddles measure 9 x 4.25 inches. Entire size of carders are 9.25 x 9 inches.

I would not recommend this set for cria, cotton, angora, cashmere and camel. Look for the 120 TPI cloth available in my shop for use with these fibers.

You can spin it like it is or draft and ply for some beautiful yarn.

The pure joy of this pencil roving is that it is very, very versatile. You can spin it or knit it just as it is. This makes felting small projects that much easier for knitters. Knit it up and felt as usual for your small felt projects. Keep an eye on it though as it will felt up much faster than regular yarn as roving is more open than yarn.

100% Wool
Hand painted Majolica
7.5 ounces / 214 grams

BFL Sock superwash wool sock yarn 465 yards - Hazel

$22.50
A new addition to the shop. 'BFL Sock' is a wonderful high twist sock yarn which has become very popular as of late for added yarn durability.

Colorway: Hazel

Care: For fine knit items, I recommend hand washing in cold water with Soak fiber wash and laying flat to dry. As this is superwash wool, you are safe enough to toss them in the washing machine on the gentle cycle with cold water then lay flat to dry.

Price is per skein.

Want to name a colorway? Look for colorways that are 'No Name'.

Want to save some money on your next purchase? Send me a picture of your finished item to use on future listings (that do not have a sample already )and I will refund $1 of your next Purchase:)

3 ply
410 yards
Colorway Mesa Sky

Dyed for pooling colors.

If you need more that the listed yardage of this color way, please contact me so that we can make sure your dye lot matches.

Although it is produced by the worm of a moth, I like to think of it as the 'Butterfly' fiber, because I can't imagine anything shinier or as light as the glistening, metalic scales of a butterfly's wing on a sunny summer day.

Galactic was inspired by a picture from the Hubble Telescope.

Casein means 'protein of milk, the basis of cheese" and is a dried milk product often used in high protein dietary foods. It therefore comes from a naturally renewable resource and is biodegradable, thus being a totally environmentally friendly product.

Louet S15 Spinning Wheel

$435.00
This unfinished solid wheel presents you with the possibility to create your own unique finish. This is the wheel with all the standard features for the lowest price. It's careful design has proven it to be an ideal wheel for beginners and experts alike. A matching skein-winder with a foldable cross is available as an accessory.

Certainly the best features of the Louet wheels are that they treadle lightly, are easy to learn on and can be modified to satisfy the expert spinners.

The orifice on this wheel is sufficiently large; 12.5 mm (1/2"), as are the bobbins (180-250 gr. capacity); to allow you to create novelty yarns. A Wide Flyer and Bulky Bobbins are also available for this wheel to accommodate spinning bulkier yarns.

The fly wheel is 50 cm (20") in diameter.

Each wheel comes equipped with a two bobbin lazy kate.

Each wheel has a single belt bobbin drive with an adjustable flyer brake to regulate the tension. The flexible belts are made of polyurethane and never have to be adjusted.
All bobbins have a sheave with three settings on one side, that can be used to obtain three spinning speeds. The ratios are: 1: 5.5 for slow spinning and heavy yarn, 1: 7.5 for medium yarn and 1:10.5 for fast spinning and fine yarn. A High Speed Set is also available for this wheel for easier spinning of very fine yarns.

This 7.6 kg (17 lb) wheel is made of laminated hardwood with a "birch" exterior finish.
Finally, an excellent spinning wheel must turn freely and quietly. Accordingly we use maintenance-free ball bearings in the main hub and at the footman connection. (No lubrication is required). The spinning wheels are disassembled to the extent that they can be packed flat and shipped economically.
Louet Electric Drum Carder

$2,050.00
Sorry about the picture quality. The pic is direct from Louet's website and will ship brand spanking new direct from them to you.

This convenient carder has the same specifications as our standard drumcarder with fine carding cloth. The 110 V. version is only availble from Louet North America. The electric drumcarder is suitable for all fibers and lends itself to effortless, two hand feeding. The carder comes complete with transparent plastic protection cover for safety, doffer brush and doffer pin. Dimensions: 49x30x45 cm (19.5"X12"X18")

Standard Drum Carder with fine cloth Specs:

Louët has five different drumcarders: the Classic, Standard, Junior (or Roving), Elite and Electric drumcarder. They are made of laminated birch and have a hard white coating. The drums of the carders are 19 cm (7 1/2") wide, except for the drum of the Junior (10 cm (4") wide). In order to ensure a long life, the teeth on all Louët carders are made of high grade plated steel wire. All gearboxes, except for the Elite drumcarder, are enclosed to prevent fibers entering the gear system.

The Classic and Electric drumcarder have a fine cloth of 46 teeth per square inch, so you can easily card wool and other coarse fibers. The Standard and Junior drumcarders have an extra fine cloth (72 teeth per square inch). The advantage of this extra fine cloth is that you also can perfectly card very fine fibers.

The Elite drumcarder has been developed with the new blending techniques in mind. The large drum has an extra fine cloth (72 teeth per square inch) and the small drum, or licker-in, has a special cloth that avoids the build-up of costly fibers. It has two different gear ratios (1:6 and 1:9) and the large feed-tray makes it easier to blend the fibers.

All drumcarders are equipped with a doffer brush, doffer pin and two table clamps to clamp it onto a sturdy table. An instruction manual written by well known author and fiber artist Deb Menz is included with all drumcarders.

For drumcarders it is common to mention the gear ratio that drives the licker-in when you rotate the large drum. For the Elite drumcarder the ratio is 6:1 or 9:1, for the other drumcarders it is 3.8:1. However, what really counts for carding is the ratio of the surface speed of both drums. You get this by multiplying the gear ratio with the ratio of the diameters of the large drum and the licker-in. This surface speed ratio is 9:1 for the Classic and Electric drumcarder and 12:1 for the Standard and Junior drumcarder. The Elite drumcarder has two surface speed ratios; 23:1 and 34:1.

Shipping Weight: 22 kg. (50 lb)

International Shipping is available. Please contact me for your international shipping quote:)

More than enough for a light scarf or small shawl. 25 MICRON COUNT! And now in new slightly hued solid colors for your lace knitting needs. It hit me like a ton of bricks the other day. I love knitting lace, but solid colors can be so darn matte and drab, but sometimes the hand paints and variegated yarns can be too much wildness for a given project. Our new semi-solid colors solve both problems by having the perfectly organic dusting of light and dark areas through out the yarn to give your lace projects a refreshingly delicate bounce of vibrance.

100% soft wool
lace weight
100 grams/ 3.5 ounces
700 yards / 640 meters
Color way: Caramel Latte

All skeins in this listing are the same dye lot. I splatter the rovings with what ever left over colors I have left over after dying. The suicide series are each one of a kind and will never be reproduced. They would be fabulous plied with other singles or plied on thier own! The last picture is a sample of how the suicides spin up:)

You can spin it like it is for a super bulky yarn or draft and ply for beautiful yarn of any weight.

100% Wool
Hand painted Samhain
6.5 ounces / 186 grams
Louet S17 Spinning Wheel PLUS bonus fiber

$345.00
The perfect first wheel!

This single treadle wheel is designed with the budget conscious spinner in mind! Smooth ball bearing operation like all Louet wheels, easy treadling, and a well balanced wheel that won’t disappoint! Comes as a kit with assembly instructions. A great wheel at a really great price!

Wheels are made of laminated hardwood with a "birch" exterior finish.

Louet sends 8 ounces of fiber (usually coopworth roving) with every wheel.

International orders for Louet wheels are welcome, but there will be additional shipping charges. Please contact me for a quote.

If you are a scammer and contact me privately about purchasing this item with a bogus check where your shipping company will pick up my item.....YOU WILL BE REPORTED TO ETSY!

Colorway: Majolica

Care: For fine knit items, I recommend hand washing in cold water with Soak fiber wash and laying flat to dry. As this is superwash wool, you are safe enough to toss them in the washing machine on the gentle cycle with cold water then lay flat to dry.

Price is per skein.

Want to name a colorway?

Size: US 6 or 4mm
Length: 12"

Please note, the set of needles you are purchasing may not be exactly as pictured. You are purchasing one pair needles of casein knitting needles in a plastic sleeve.

What is Casein? Casein means 'protein of milk, the basis of cheese" and is a dried milk product often used in high protein dietary foods. It therefore comes from a naturally renewable resource and is biodegradable, thus being a totally environmentally friendly product.
