sterling silver granules are set under a thick acrylic dome. the granules gently roll back and forth across the deep rose-colored sandpaper set within.

after many many years...that rolling back and forth will cause the granules to become smaller...and smaller..and still even smaller yet...eventually transforming into silver dust.

the time that it takes to transform will be determined by how often the ring is worn. it happens to be very comfy..so you might just want to wear it everyday!

the ring is a size 7.25 (between 7 and 7.5). top of ring is 7/8" across. see picture 4 for scale.

this ring has a minimalist attitude. the top part of the ring is made of thick copper wire that has been cut up and soldered together and then soldered to a sterling silver backing. the rounded wire was then filed off to create a flat surface. the copper was given a patina to give it more of a grayish gun metal look.

the ring was completed by adding a thick sterling silver band.

the top part of the ring measures 5/8" by 7/16", sits 1/8" tall.

story:
this little vintage bike reflector had been sitting on my desk for 2 years..not really sure of what it would become. the reflector was given to me by a kind man at a mom and pop hardware store in nebraska city, nebraska. i was there for an artist residency at khn center for the arts back in 2007, a truly incredible experience, which i highly recommend. once the nice man discovered that i made jewelry out of found parts/pieces he dumped a whole jar of baubles out that he had been collecting and told me to pick whatever i wanted. i heart nebraska.

specifics:
the ring is made of of sterling silver, a vintage plastic bicycle reflector, and little light pink and hot pink glass beads that roll around within the reflector, creating a flickering of color which looks like light coming out from within!

size:
the ring is a size 7.25. the band of this ring is "finger-shaped", meaning it conforms to the natural shape of your finger, wider at the bottom and skinnier on the top. it also keeps it from spinning around your finger, so the reflector always stays on top..like it's supposed to. the top of the ring measures 1" across by 3/8" tall.

package:
the ring comes in a nice little soft taupe pouch, inside of a black recycled paper box. a care card and signature card are also included. perfect for giving or receiving.
