One of my friends/studio-mates makes the most beautiful raku pottery. I got so jealous of her gorgeous glazes and the fun of raku firing, that I made some too. Her etsy shop: candacemccollough.etsy.com

(a quick definition) Raku is a traditional Japanese glaze firing technique. A special kiln is used to heat the pots. While the pieces are still hot, they are removed from the kiln and place on combustible materials to create a reduction atmosphere. The smoke and fire react with the glaze and clay to produce very unique and individual pieces. Truly one-of-a-kind.

Raku pieces are porous, and do not hold water. They are intended for decorative purposes only. (A small glass vial or cup can be placed inside the basket for flower arrangements.)

This basket is 8.5" tall. The bead on the handle is stamped with a couple of sprouts.

Wheelthrown and altered from raku stoneware clay. Felt pads have been placed on the bottom to prevent carbon marking and scratches. My "maker's mark" is on the side.

One of my friends/studio-mates makes the most beautiful raku pottery. I got so jealous of her gorgeous glazes and the fun of raku firing, that I made some too. Her etsy shop: candacemccollough.etsy.com

(a quick definition) Raku is a traditional Japanese glaze firing technique. A special kiln is used to heat the pots. While the pieces are still hot, they are removed from the kiln and place on combustible materials to create a reduction atmosphere. The smoke and fire react with the glaze and clay to produce very unique and individual pieces. Truly one-of-a-kind.

Raku pieces are porous, and do not hold water. They are intended for decorative purposes only. (A small glass vial or cup can be placed inside the basket for flower arrangements.)

This basket is 7.5" tall. The bead on the handle is stamped with a star.

Wheelthrown and altered from raku stoneware clay. Felt pads have been placed on the bottom to prevent carbon marking and scratches. My "maker's mark" is on the side.

Great for using as prep bowls or dipping bowls. Perfect for the gourmet chef, likes to have salt in a handy bowl on the counter. Or use as spice bowls when making your best tofu curry dish.

Each holds about 2 ounces. 2.75" wide and 1.5" tall.

Both bowls are stamped once with the awesome lightening bolt stamp (I made it myself!)

Wheelthrown. One bowl is glazed cranberry on the outside and "magic khaki" on the inside. The other bowl is reversed, with khaki on the outside and cranberry on the inside. Both have great overlap of glazes at the rim and top portion.

Autumn hues raku basket with wire handle.

One of my friends/studio-mates makes the most beautiful raku pottery. I got so jealous of her gorgeous glazes and the fun of raku firing, that I made some too. Her etsy shop: candacemccollough.etsy.com

(a quick definition) Raku is a traditional Japanese glaze firing technique. A special kiln is used to heat the pots. While the pieces are still hot, they are removed from the kiln and place on combustible materials to create a reduction atmosphere. The smoke and fire react with the glaze and clay to produce very unique and individual pieces. Truly one-of-a-kind.

Raku pieces are porous, and do not hold water. They are intended for decorative purposes only. (A small glass vial or cup can be placed inside the basket for flower arrangements.)

This basket is 9" tall. The bead on the handle is stamped with a star.

Wheelthrown and altered from raku stoneware clay. Felt pads have been placed on the bottom to prevent carbon marking and scratches. My "maker's mark" is on the side.
