Coy - Small Greyhound Linocut Art

$13.00
I noticed I had a bunch of leftover materials hanging around my art studio... odd-shaped pieces of linoleum, small cuts of Asian paper, extra ink, etc... and I thought, heck, I hate to see anything go to waste! So I drew up some small doodles of my fave breed in the world (guess!) and went to work, utilizing all the leftovers. :)

These are original prints, NOT images from a computer or xerox. The linoleum blocks were carved in my studio, inked, and hand-printed on Asian papers using the back of a wooden spoon.

This print comes on YOUR choice of:

-Off white Kitakata (Japanese) paper, or
-Yellow Lama Li Lokta paper from Nepal
-A light mustard Lama Li Lokta paper from Nepal

**Please let me know in your order which color you'd like!!**

Paper is approx. 3 1/2 x 5 inches

**Makes a great stocking stuffer or gift for the holidays!**

P.S. -The model for this linocut is my 13 1/2 year old girl Lucy. I just love that half-asleep "coy" look she gets on her face sometimes... what a sweetheart she is. :o)

Red Fawn, Blue Skies- Greyhound Woodcut

$60.00
"Red Fawn, Blue Skies" is a 6-color reduction woodcut on Stonehenge paper. The actual image is 6 x 8" and paper size is approximately 8 x 10". Limited edition of 10 prints only.

Block printing is an ancient Japanese art form that entails carving an image into a block (traditionally a wood block, but more "contemporary" materials include linoleum, rubber, styrofoam, etc); rolling ink over the carved block; and then pressing the block against paper to get a reproduction of the image. Additional colors are added by "reducing" (carving away) more of the block as you print. All of this is done with a block of MDF, inks, and a small hand-cranked printing press in my art studio, under the strict supervision of my two retired racing greyhounds Lucy and Clifford. :o)

"Red Fawn, Blue Skies" was inspired by my red fawn greyhound, Clifford. One day we were visiting my parents, hanging out in their yard, and I saw him sillouetted against the bluest sky ever. I thought the complementary colors of the fawn and blue were very beautiful and tried to repreduce it in this woodcut.

Images:
1-The final piece
2-The initial sketch
3-The block of wood as I carved it- this was in between the first and second reductions.

Please note: Because each print is from a hand-inked and hand-pressed block, no two are exactly alike. They are also individually numbered and signed (edition number available may vary from photo). These slight differences are a unique quality of the block-printing art form.

$60.00
"North Viele Pasture" is a 7-color reduction woodcut on Stonehenge paper. The actual image is 13 x 8 1/2" and paper size is approximately 14 x 11".

"North Viele Pasture" was inspired by a hike I took through the Finger Lakes National Forest in Hector, NY. Situated between Cayuga and Seneca Lakes, the FLNF is the only national forest in New York State. Intersecting through the preserve are rolling meadows, cow pastures, and beautiful tracts of forest. North Viele Pasture is one of the actual working cow pastures that intersperse through the miles and miles of virgin forest.

Images:
1-The final, hand-pulled print
2-My first step: Sketching my drawing on a block of gessoed MDF, and carving away the first layer (reduction)

Please note: Because each print is from a hand-inked and hand-pressed block, no two are exactly alike. They are also individually numbered and signed (edition number available may vary from photo). These slight differences are a unique quality of the block-printing art form.
