I used so much concentrated blue-violet, robins' egg blue, and navy dye on this extra-large piece that it took three rinsings and two washings before the water ran clear. The circular designs and patterns remind me of something extra-terrestrial and cold, hence the name. Tiny flashes of hot pink create a surprise dimensionality to the cold colors. I created this original design for that woman of style; both cannot be duplicated.

Somewhere between raspberry and blackberry stains, with some wonderful deep shades where the chartreuse blended and the darker colors diffused. I made the shades as deep and rich as I could, using leaf shapes in layers on top of a resist-dyed design.

Beebalm always puts me in a Charles Burchfield mood, hence the attempt to visually describe fragrance. Beebalm is also known as horsemint and bergomot, and has a wonderful scent.

Bright golden yellow goldenrod against a darkened sky, with sage green foliage slanting away: this design is more muted and has less stark contrast than is usual for me, but the watery blending of the blue and blue-gray is just what I wanted. Heavy slate blue sky makes the goldenrod flowers stand out.
Several layers of dye were added to give depth to the design. The dyes are, of course, permanent, the silk lush 16.5mm stonewashed crepe de Chine, and the design is completely unique.

A full 14" x 72" of lush stonewashed crepe de Chine means that this is not just a scarf or an accessory: it's the main event. It took me four full days and five rinsings to create.

I overdyed a spattered design in burgundy and seafoam green with lots of diluting and dispersing, then painted each stargazer lily individually with my left hand while I held the real lily in my right. Several blossoms died for this scarf. Seafoam with emerald, deep burgundy with fuschia, and minute details of golden brown are the only colors I used. Silk reflects light, which accounts for the differences between indoor and outdoor shots.

This piece is dramatic, one-of-a-kind, and the colors will not fade. Mails in a box. If you would like gift wrapping, ask, because I do not charge for that service. If you are outside the US, I will mail in a padded envelope unless you ask otherwise.

Bronze on pewter: it's nearly impossible to photograph these colors. The bronze can have a rusty or a greenish cast depending upon the light; the pewter geometric patterns are more gray than sage. Black adds accent to the design (as close as I could get to true black dye, which photographs as purplish). Words are inadequate and so are the photos, but this unique hand dyed and painted neck tie is a charmer.

This is a big square chiffon scarf I designed just for ladies who need complete head coverage, and hate having the scarf slide off their heads. Silk chiffon is delicate, but strong and flexible; its texture helps make it stay right where you want it. I didn't include a photo of it worn because my mannequin doesn't do head scarves. (She's a bit hard-headed.)

First, I dyed the scarf seafoam all over, then added midnight blue. Midnight blue disperses into hot pink and blue if you let it, and I encouraged that effect so that the whole scarf would be scattered with hot pink flashes. The luna moths are individually hand painted in dark blue-green, emerald green, and lemon yellow on roughly one-half of the scarf. It can be worn in a variety of ways: around the neck, to accessorize a purse, or to keep your hair in place while sailing down the highway in your Cadillac convertible.

Silk charmeuse has a matte texture on one side; satiny smooth on the other. The denseness of the weave made it necessary to paint on each side individually. I painted the huge open blooms and some buds on either end, then the lily pads and seed pods in between. White, clear yellow, bright yellow-green, emerald green, sky blue and navy are the predominant colors. I went after this subject with the intention of being wet and sloppy, just like the swampy area where I found the lilies. I have others that are more meticulous, but not this big, juicy baby.
The silk is 12mm crepe de Chine: luxurious without the weight and a generous size to use as a wrap or shawl.

Wearable Art RAYON BLOUSE with hand painted carnations

This lovely and delicate rayon chiffon blouse by "Wednesday's Child" asked for the delicate treatment, so I painted pink carnations down the front panels and one down the back; they will never wash out or fade.
A light sage green color, three-quarter length cuffed sleeves, double rows of shell buttons down the front. Laid flat, it measures 15" across the shoulders, 15" from top button to hem, and 13" from the seams at the bust. It says 'size small' but who knows what that really means? It is a bit small for me, and I am an 8 petite.

This blouse is NOT NEW, but it shows no wear at all. I have no idea when the actual blouse was originally designed, but it is very well made. I had it dry-cleaned after it was finished, and it will have to be continued to be cleaned that way because rayon is so delicate when wet.
This is the probably be the last piece of clothing I will paint for a very long time, unless someone asks. It's just too much work.

Orange daylilies and Queen Anne's lace are scattered across meadows and roadsides all summer, and I never tire of the combination. For this piece the background is clear yellow, overlapped in jade to create variations of fresh green; the lilies a robust orange with blue-green contours. Sprinkles of white perk up the design. These colors are truly luscious-- just the thing to perk up any outfit right through fall.

Because the dyes bond chemically, the colors will not fade and I use no wax or resists to affect the sensuous texture of the silk. Datura, also known as Jimson Weed, sets out its large, fragrant trumpet-shaped blooms at nightfall. I translated the blooms and foliage onto a long silk chiffon scarf, using dyes that will retain their brilliance. Blue-violet, seafoam green, lemon, and pure white are the predominant colors.

The length makes it adaptable to use as a shawl, wrap, or cowl: equally wonderful at the opera or at the office. And nobody can have one like it.

Spiky, striking liatrus blooms are most often used by florists as an accent, but here they are the main event. An experiment in color: forest green over hot pink changes the dark shades completely into a dramatic color with no name. Light is reflected and absorbed in kind to create some fascinating hues; I try very hard to show off the true color in my photos. These effects would be impossible to duplicate.
