I've been working on this for quite some time, putting it aside for a while and thinking about it. This piece comes from a sense of wonder at the fragility and smallness of my place on earth in such an infinite universe. I just finished a novel called "Beautiful Miscellaneous." In it a scientist who didn't believe in God, wrote a letter to God explaining why he doubted his unbelief. One of the reasons was, that no one could explain how gravity exists. So after finishing that book, I came up with another really corny name for this painting, "Raise Your Hand If You Understand Gravity."

These three flowers in my yard made me think of the song "If We Make It To September" that my parents sing to each other jokingly when times get tough. The zinnias were not quite as fresh and big as the first bloomers but they survived a lot of heat and sporadic watering; I quite admire them.

This painting has a lot of energy. I used brushwork to carve out the forms and the color is intense. I've used the teal blue and lime green background fabric because of the swirling field it creates and a vintage Vera scarf of wild oranges and yellows to contrast with the green glass vase. Usually I paint irises in a more serene atmosphere but I liked immersing their forms in a vibrant setting this time.

I had cut these lemons to go with some fish we were having, and noticed how beautifully the curves lay together in the red bowl. Luckily no one disturbed them so I was able to paint them a couple of days ago. A lot of times some of my best still life possibilities get eaten.

This painting became about light chasing shadow, warm and cool, and groups.

I did this back when I was first doing daily paintings. The canvas board has become slightly curved and though it will be unnoticeable when framed is the reason I am putting it on sale.

This is an 8" by 8" acrylic on canvas board. I will include a simple black frame with it that really sets off the brilliant colors. The photo is not quite crisp enough and the image looks much better in person. I will ship priority and insured the first buisness day after payment clears.

Custom Tile Mural by Polly Jones

This is an example of a 12" by 32" custom mural I did for a customer's backsplash above their stove. The process for a commission tile mural begins with a drawing based on your imput along with photo's of the mural setting. At that stage, if you like the emailed picture of the drawing and want me to go forward with the commission, I would ask for a non-refundable down payment of $250.

The first photograph shows the color before the heat finishing process. The second photo shows the entire piece with the final color.

You may either send me your tiles or tell me which ones to purchase from a major home improvement center. I 'll send photographs during the process of the painting to make sure I'm headed in the right direction. Once you approve of the final photo of the piece and pay the remaining $250 plus shipping, I'll mail it.

These tiles are not installed on a board (by me). The paint I use is a specialty paint designed for use on porcelain and terra cotta that is baked in an oven. It's made to be dishwasher safe and both solvent and frost resistant.

I hope my use of color expresses the joy that is part of the process.

This was painted from life, tomatoes from a friends luscious vegetable garden, down the street. The purple glass bowl is one of my favorites to paint because of it's wonderful color and reflective quality. Red and purple are so extravagant together!

The circles are raised wooden discs that have been collaged with a wrapping paper that has a pattern of flowers and butterflies and moths on them. I use this grid as an expression of the wondrous order amidst chaos to be found. It is a reference to Eden and the spiritual dimension that is possible amidst daily life.
