Cuttings are about 2"x 3" with stem intact. Custom mounting size depending on stem length. Cutting must be pressed behind glass and preferably displayed out of direct sunlight for preservation.

Algerian Ivy available year-round(shown in third pic). Hardwood leaf cuttings available from May through October.

How it works:
You send me images taken in profile against a neutral background from about 4 feet away. Be sure to include head and shoulders with mouth closed in a natural position. I cut your portrait from lovely matte French black silhouette paper (or other color) and send you a proof. Once you are happy with the cutting, your cuttings are signed and dated in very tiny black letters just underneath the swoop. Then it is packaged in a clear plastic sleeve, and mailed to you in a rigid mailer.

Each of my custom cuttings begins with a conversation about the essence of what you'd like the cutting to capture. We identify a few images and talk a little about how they will fit together. Sometimes you provide a handful of pictures that I can work with for shape and gesture.

Then I make a sketch and handcut an original circular design from origami paper in the color of your choice. Sometimes I add underlayments of other colors. The cutting is then mounted on a 12" x 12" piece of museum board with archival adhesive, signed, and mailed to you.

The leaf peepers are descending on the northeast, each day sudden with changes. Here in our cozy house, the ivy keeps the green with a hint of purple in the stem.

The freehand method of closely observing a person while cutting their portrait directly from a piece of paper was a favorite of itinerant silhouette artists in early America. Now you can send digital or print profile photos in your place and have them carefully rendered into delicate leaf likenesses. I provide you with scanned proofs of your cuttings. And then your artwork is mailed to you in a standard dimension glass clip frame (usually 8x10 inches, but may vary depending on particular leaves).

As your leaves cure there will be some light shrinkage and changing of color, but if kept pressed in a frame and out of direct sunlight, your piece should last a very long time.

Each of my custom cuttings begins with a conversation about the essence of what you'd like the cutting to capture. We identify a few images and talk a little about how they will fit together. Sometimes you provide a handful of pictures that I can work with for shape and gesture.

Then I make a sketch and handcut an original circular design from origami paper in the color of your choice. Sometimes I add underlayments of other colors. The cutting is then mounted on a 12" x 12" (or smaller) piece of museum board with archival adhesive, signed, and mailed to you.

The leaf peepers are descending on the northeast, each day sudden with changes. Here in our cozy house, the ivy keeps the green with a hint of purple in the stem.

The freehand method of closely observing a person while cutting their portrait directly from a piece of paper was a favorite of itinerant silhouette artists in early America. Now you can send digital or print profile photos in your place and have them carefully rendered into delicate leaf likenesses. I provide you with scanned proofs of your cuttings. And then your artwork is mailed to you in a standard dimension glass clip frame (usually 8x10 inches, but may vary depending on particular leaves).

As your leaves cure there will be some light shrinkage and changing of color, but if kept pressed in a frame and out of direct sunlight, your piece should last a very long time.

Somehow, it is easy to forget how ephemeral paper is, but a leaf renders the precious and precarious loud and clear.

You provide a profile portrait taken from about four feet away of the head and shoulders. We talk about what sort of leaf you might like, and I send you a delightful silhouette hand cut from a leaf with stem intact, pressed and mounted on museum board with archival adhesive and packaged in a protective sleeve.

Somehow, it is easy to forget how ephemeral paper is, but a leaf renders the precious and precarious loud and clear.

You provide a profile portrait taken from about four feet away of the head and shoulders. We talk about what sort of leaf you might like, and I send you a delightful silhouette hand cut from a leaf with stem intact, pressed and mounted on museum board with archival adhesive and packaged in a protective sleeve.

Leaves will change color with age, and some splitting may occur as the leaf dries. Please frame and display out of direct sunlight. I can't guarantee that your cutting will last forever, but I am sure that you will love it for as long as it is with you.

Mounted size varies.

Algerian ivy (shown in the third pic) is available now! Maple and other hardwoods available beginning in late May.
