Pint Cup Set, Wood-Fired with Screen Printed Decals

$25.00
This great set of two pint cups was slip-cast in porcelain from original moulds. The flame decals were screen printed by hand, and applied to the clay underneath the glaze - they will never wear off like overglaze decals. Finally, the cups were wood-fired in an anagama kiln - one with a shino liner glaze, the other with a temmoku. The outside of the cups are unglazed; the outer color and patina is achieved from the random flame patterns in the kiln and the wood ash which is deposited on the clay and melts into a natural glaze. The intense heat from wood-firing has warped the lips slightly, so if you are obsessed with perfect symmetry, these tumblers are not for you.

These cups blend a traditional firing method with a contemporary aesthetic, and await your favorite beverage. The glazes are food-safe, but the crackled shino may darken in the fine crazing lines if fluids prone to staining are left in the cup over long periods of time without washing.

Designed, cast, fired, and glazed in Madison, WI.

Double Latte Via Quantum Construction, Fine Art Screen Print, 2 of 4

$90.00
"Double Latte Via Quantum Construction", another installment in my series of screen prints drafted by an unconventional, arbitrary method. This print has a lighter, less formal feel than some of the other prints in the grouping, and looks downright creamy and delicious - hence its name. For a more in-depth examination of my working processes than I can elaborate here, check out http://synapseartworks.blogspot.com/.

This is a larger print, 21 x 30 inches, hand-pulled on white Stonehenge paper with four translucent inks. This is the 2nd print in a tiny edition of only 4, so you'll want to grab it while you can. This print is signed, titled, and numbered on the back.
Untitled, Abstract Randomly Generated Fine Art Screen Print, 1 of 10

$35.00
This small diptych screen print was the first in a continuing series of randomly generated screen prints I created through various means. The idea came to fruition while studying aesthetic theory, and finding an interest in what the interplay between the deliberate and arbitrary in works of art were. In this case, each grey tone was assigned a number on a dice, and the image is the result of those particular rolls. For more information on the process and concept, visit my blog, http://synapseartworks.blogspot.com/.

This print was hand-pulled in five colors, and measures 7 x 22 inches. It is the 1st in a small edition of 6, printed on white Stonehenge paper. This screen print is signed and numbered on the front.

A perfectly austere, yet elegantly simple print to compliment many spaces.

11.935 Either/Or Instances, Fine Art Screen Print, 3 of 8

$200.00
This print, "11,935 Either/Or Instance Superimposed In Five Layers", is one of the most in-depth prints I completed in an ongoing series that examines the role of the random and unintentional in a work of art. Though it has a digitized, pixel-like feel, the print was actually completely drafted by hand using opaque film positives. There are 11,935 cubes of descending size in five layers, each one a cell of color or left blank, the result dependent on a coin flip. No, I'm not kidding - I flipped coins manually and cut the cubes on film by hand with an x-acto knife; one of the most time-consuming works I've made to date. For more in-depth conceptual background about this print, as well as my other work, please visit http://synapseartworks.blogspot.com/.

The print is large - 30 x 22 inches including the border, printed on white Stonehenge. There are two variant color editions, and this print hails from the first. It is the 2nd in a very small edition of only 8 prints, hand-pulled as always. The print is signed, titled, and numbered on the back.

This print has a mesmerizing graphic quality, and is essentially an archival document of thousands of fleeting happenings. Truly a stunning work in image and concept to add to your collection.

Cheeto Existential Documentary, Fine Art Screen Print, 2 of 8

$125.00
This screen print, "A Documentary - The Existential Relevance of One 13.5 Ounce Bag of Cheetos", documents literally what it says. The print conceptually derives from my interest in the arbitrary or random in a work of art, as well as those insignificant elements of life we tend to gloss over. I traced, by hand, each Cheeto in the aforementioned bag and subjectively rated its cheesiness on a scale of 1 to 4, reflected by the various orange hues. For a more detailed explanation of this work's conceptual content, as well as my methods and obsessive techniques in general, check out my blog at http://synapseartworks.blogspot.com/.

The print is in four colors, hand-pulled on white Stonehenge, and is a very small edition of only 8 prints - this is the 2nd. It measures 20 x 26 inches, borders included. The print is signed, titled, and numbered on the back.

This print has it all - a hip, pop aesthetic with enough background philosophical haberdashery to justify it's existence.

The print is on white Stonehenge paper, has four color runs, and measures 10 x 10 inches. It is signed, titled, and numbered on the front. This print is the 2nd in an edition of 8.

A nice little print to add to your collection, especially since there are only eight in this edition.

It is something of a punk rock take on an amalgamation of my fascination with anatomical illustrations and philosophy-of-the-mind texts I was reading at the time.

The print is hand-drawn and hand-pulled in three colors and measures 11 x 30 inches. This particular design is available in:

Asphalt, Size: XL
Cranberry, Size: L
Army, Size: S, L (the small size is a second, having a small ink smudge on one sleeve, so that one is $10 - send me a message to set up the item to purchase if interested)

"Hobnob" is an Old-English word meaning to get together, drink, and be merry.

Please specify which you'd like when ordering. Sorry, but I'm not set up to take custom t-shirt orders at this time; hopefully that will be an option in the near future.

All designs ©2007 Synapse Artworks, all rights reserved.
