Ever since I lived in an old farm house which still had old roller shades, I've loved silhouettes of branches. Those old paper window shades used to look lovely when the sun set and the bushes showed through them as though the shades were covered with fine, intricate, line drawings.

This bead is almost like a silhouette of one of those branches as seen through the window when the shade is rolled up. There is a scene on each side of the bead, similar but not exactly the same. The colors are ivory and turquoise with the black lines which are drawn with hair-line glass threads.

Measurements: 40.4mm tall and 22.4mm across at the widest point. The hole measures 3/32". All my beads have been annealed in a digital kiln for durablity.

Mountain Scene Glass Bead

I am having a heck of a lot of fun with this style of bead. It's new to me and came about because of techniques that I learned at a class I took this summer. I keep finding new ways to apply what I learned. Here's another variation.

This mountain scene reminds me of a stamp on ivory colored paper. There is a scene on each side of the bead, which is pressed so it is not very thick.

Measurements: 33.0mm tall by 22mm across at the widest area. The bead has a 3/32" hole. All my beads have been annealed in a digital kiln for durablity.

Sand And Sea Glass Bead

This is a seascape. The bead is pressed so that it is not very thick. There is a slightly different seascape design on each side of the bead. I've added a couple sublte raised swirls at the bottom of each bead to add to the feeling of the sea theme.

Measurement: 40.4mm tall by 21.8mm across (at the widest); with a 3/32" hole. All my beads have been annealed in a digital kiln for durablity.

Acorn Pendant with Leaf Inside

One day, when I was walking through a parking lot, I found a treasure trove of acorns scattered under an oak tree next to a bank. I collected some of them and brought them home with me. I spray painted the caps gold and added a headpin and some ribbon. Now they hang in my house and in my studio. They reminded me that when I very first began to make beads I found a tutorial, for making glass acorns, in a magazine that was online. And since then, I've been making my own glass acorns. I sell acorn beads but I also occasionally offer acorn pendants that are ready to wear.

This acorn is made of a medium shade of warm brown. If you look at the second picture, which is in a better position, you will see that there is something that reflects light from inside the bead. There are two pure silver foil oak leaves in the glass. It is my reminder of the huge tree that grows from the acorn. The body of the acorn has been etched to soften the look while maintaining a transluscent look. The cap is still shiny.

All the pendant parts are made with sterling silver. There are two metallic seed beads added also. THE CORD IN THE PHOTO IS NOT INCLUDED BUT I DO SELL THEM IN MY SHOP.

This acorn is 19.5mm tall by 18mm across at the widest part of the cap. All my beads are digitally annealed for durablity.

They reminded me that when I very first began to make beads I found a tutorial, for making glass acorns, in a magazine that was online. And since then, I've been making my own glass acorns. I sell acorn beads but I also occasionally offer acorn pendants that are ready to wear.

So, here is an acorn pendant. The body is a transparent medium amber color with a bumpy brown glass cap. Take a look at the picture of it in my hand; I think it's a more accurate picture of how it will look when laying again clothing. I've etched the body of the acorn to soften the look and to make it slightly opaque while allowing the light to come through.

The pendant parts are all sterling silver. THE CORD IN THE PHOTO IS NOT INCLUDED BUT I OFFER THEM IN MY SHOP LISTINGS.

The acorn itself is approximately 17mm tall by 16.2mm across. All my beads are annealed in a digital kiln for durablity.

Pansy Vessel

A deep, warm, olive colored glass wrapped in very sparkly dark green adventurine forms the core of this vessel. Vines and little purple pansies glow against the green background and tiny white flowers add a nice accent.

This little vessel was made on a 1/8th in mandrel, so the hole is small and it does not go all the way through the bead. This means you will need to make an attachment around the neck to make the vessel wearable. I will include a cork that fits the hole. You can use a cork, a headpin, and beads of your choice if you want to make a stopper. I've found that bali-style beads combined with a round or bicone swarovski crysal (for example) can make a nice stopper.

Measurements: 39.3 mm by 17.0 mm, 1/8th" hole which does not go all the way through the bead. All my beads are digitally annealed in a kiln for durability.

Metallic Glass Vessel

Very angular and modern. This vessel was made on the end of a 5/32" mandrel and then the "body" of the vessel was made as a hollow bead so that the interior of the body is...well, hollow and roomy.

This vessel is made from a glass which takes on a metallic coating when it is finished in a certain type of torch flame. The stopper is a cork, a bali sterling bead, a glass bead made from the glass as the vessel and a small black Swarovski bicone bead. It is fairly lightweight. At this point it is ready to be attached to a bail and can be worn on a cord. Or if you prefer, you could wrap a connector around the neck and use that to attach to a cord. If you do that you could connect a tiny chain to the top of the stopper and attach that to the neck connector.

Measurements: Length from bottom of vessel to top of Swarovski in stopper: 35.8 mm. Width: 22.1 mm

Bird on a Branch Glass Bead

One look at my shop will show you that I make very detailed encased floral beads. But there's another side to me. I like to think it comes from growing up with parents who had very different taste: one loved ornate antiques and the other loved clean, modern, lines.

This bead design is the result of designs I developed after taking a class with Melanie Mortel this summer. Melanie works with lots of colors and has her own style. The beads I've made are my version of what I learned in her wonderful class.

Ivory, turquoise, and black glass compose this bead. I've flattened this bead and have put a branch and bird on each side.

Lone FLower Glass Bead

This is a really striking bead. The white flowers stand out against the blue-grey and greens of the background and the big cluster of stamen in the center of each flower makes them look like I've captured real flowers and put them into the bead. All the leaves are covered with sparkling glass which glitters when the bead moves.

This barrel bead has a soft lilac transluscent core which I've wrapped with dichroic glass. I added a vine of leaves, small white accent flowers and small violet accent flowers. The two multi-petaled focal flowers are violet-colored; each has a clear cubic zirconia in the center.

Lentil Pink Rose and Leaf Sparkling Glass Bead

This lentil bead is one of a group that I've been making. I started experimenting with the shape and my encased florals. I was on a lentil kick for a while. They make a nice canvas for larger flowers and leaves.

The bead has many layers in it: white foggy glass as a core, darker blue-grey transparent wrapped around that. There are lots of large leaves which sparkle like crazy when the bead moves, vines, accent flowers and pretty rose-like focal flowers. The whole bead is then encased in clear glass and shaped in a press.

Measurements:34.3mm tall by 31.9mm across with a 3/32" hole.
All my beads are digitally annealed in a kiln for durability.

Silver Core Red Floral

I love beads with silver cores; they look so "finished". I used to core the beads with scary tools like a pointy steel bezel shaper and a rawhide mallet and steel dapping tools. It was a slow, nerve wracking process which involved repeatedly hitting the bead with the mallet. Now there are new tools that make the process much less scary and they make the process somewhat faster too; so I plan to make these cored beads fairly often.

This is an encased floral bead with a black base, green and black striped vines and velvety deep red flowers with multiple layers of petals. There are also a few tiny red flowers added for accent. All the main focal flowers have a cubic zirconia in the center of them.

With the core in the bead, the hole size is 5.5mm. The bead is 10mm hole to hole and 19mm in diameter. It looks good on any silver chain (fine or heavy weight) or you could wear it on the black rubber cords that I sell.

Leaf Silhouette

Okay, here's the thing. There are SO many new types of glass and there are SO many ways to use them. I love to try new glass and then apply what I learn to create my favorite things; in this case: leaves and leaf patterns. This bead is the result of one of those experiments. I've made almost a dozen of these beads and never really know how they're going to come out. It's great fun sometimes and disappointing at other times but I keep playing with this idea.

This bead is flattened. Shades of blue and green form a leaf design that is on both sides of the bead; see the photos to see the two different sides of the bead. There is a layer of clear encasing around the entire bead.

Measurements: 29mm tall x 22.7 mm across. 10mm thick. 3/32" hole. All my beads are digitally annealed in a kiln for durability.

The other day I introduced my newest version of an encased floral bead. This bead is another in my new series. I'm proud to say that I haven't seen anything quite like these. They're the fruition of a class I took this summer. In class we played with organic shapes and the "frame" around the edge of the beads we were making; and then I came home and used it on a couple types of beads I make including my encased florals. These beads are pressed flat and are larger than I usually make.

This bead is similar to another one I've listed except is is a bit bigger and has clear cubic zirconia in the flowers. It is shades of green transparent glass along with big sparkling leaves. The violet-colored focal flowers, which are on both sides of the bead. This bead SPARKLES when the light hits it.

Measurements: 40mm tall by 28.5mm at the widest point, 12.4mm thick; with a 3/32" hole. All my beads are digitally annealed in a kiln for durability.

Purple Tweeter

Here is another bird bead which is part of the flock I made after being inspired by an Audubon member who put a Bluebird house on a fence post along our pasture. I wanted to make something simple and happy. These are my "Bluebirds of Happiness" aka "Birds with Attitude".

Each bird that I make is different. I vary the wings and tail and really enjoy seeing how each one comes out. This one is a really pretty purple fuschia color with turquoise and black wings and tail. The design is on both sides of the bead and the bead is etched rather than shiny. Also, please note that the rough area at the top of the hole is the post that is holding the bird upright. The actual hole is not rough at all.

Measures: 18.0 mm tall by 18.5 mm wide and it is 11.8 mm thick. The hole that goes through this bird is 3/32". The bead is annealed in my kiln for durability but take a little care with the beak and tail.

What's Up Chickadee

Purple Rose Floral Bead

This bead is made from two shades of purple. The flowers are a violet pink and the base is a blue violet. The larger focal flowers have rose-style centers and the bead has goldstone under the flowers. The goldstone glitters when light hits it. A simple vine and a few white flowers are scattered throughout for interest and the design is encased in clear glass.

Measurements: 24.5 mm tall by 17.5 mm across. The hole is 3/32". All my beads are digitally annealed in a kiln for durability.

What the heck is this, you ask? Well, this is my way of offering to finish my beads so that you can have a finished pendant if you want it.

In my shop, I offer beads that are ready to wear as pendants. I also beads that are "unfinished". If you want one of the "unfinished" beads, and you want me to make it into a pendant for you, simply purchase the parts and I will do the rest. I don't charge more for this service than what I charge for the finished pendants that I list in my shop.

The headpin, the two bead caps, and the bail, are all sterling silver. The little seed beads that you see on the wire are what I use when the bead hole is bigger than the wire size. They keep the bead centered on the wire.

Amber Sparkle Lentil Glass Bead

I've been experimenting with lentil shapes in all sizes and I've been exploring new leaf ideas. This bead is inspired by Fall. I love transparent amber- colored glass and enjoy any excuse to use it in a bead. I've combined it with sparkling blue-green dichroic glass, green and black vines, and large white flowers which have handmade stamen in them. This bead really stands out from a distance.

Fall Contrasts Floral Glass Bead

This bead is inspired by Fall colors. It was an experiment with a color combination which I've never encased before. The core color is a warm rust-brown which is wrapped with handmade vine cane. I added red-orange accent flowers and two large cobalt blue focal flowers. The focal flowers have adventurine glass in their petals so that they have a subtle sparkle. There is a lot of detail in this slim barrel-shaped bead.

Measurements: 35mm tall by 15.3mm across with a 3/32" hole.

Blue on Blue Floral

This encased floral bead has a dark blue transparent base which has been wrapped with a green and black vine and dotted with little white accent flowers. The focal flowers are made from several layers of petals and each one has handmade stamen in the center. After all the flowers and vines are in place I wrap the entire bead in a layer of clear glass. This is fairly large bead.

Roses in Fog Lentil Shaped Glass Bead

We've already had a couple very foggy mornings lately and it caused me to pull out a favorite new glass which is a wonderful, soft, translucent glass to use as the base of this bead. I added goldstone for the sunlight that was trying to shine through the fog and I added roses. I wish I could say that I had roses in my garden but the few that I do have are not in bloom right now.

This is a lentil shaped bead with a soft background and strong-colored roses in shades of pink. The goldstone in the background sparkles when the bead is moved.

The measurements: 25.5mm tall by 25.5mm across by 13mm thick. All my beads are digitally annealed for durability.

Pink on Sparkling Blue Glass Bead

This is a smaller round bead with a black base that is wrapped with a bright sparkling blue-green dichroic glass and some green vines and small white accent flowers. The two focal flowers are two-tone pink with pink cubic zirconia in them.The whole bead is encased in clear glass for depth and magnification. This is a bright little bead.

The measurements: 15mm tall by 17mm wide with a 3/32" hole.

Floating on the Pond

This lentil shaped bead is a softly shaded encased floral bead with transluscent white flowers on a background of shades of green and blue. The pale green of the background tints the white flowers just slightly, making them look very much the way actual flowers look when they float on water. In the photograph, you may notice "lines" across the front of the bead. These are not fractures, they are lines created as I wrapped the clear encasing around the bead. In the photo they are pretty obvious. In "real life" they do not show at all.

Sunset Floral Bead

We see some spectacular sunsets up here in the foothills of the Cascades. The colors are intense pinks and apricots and yellows. This bead was inspired by those colors although the bead colors are not as intense.

The core is a deep apricot which has been rolled liberally in goldstone. The goldstone sparkles brightly when it catches the light. Over that, I've added a sparkly, twisted, vine cane (handmade), and little accent flowers. The large fuschia-pink focal flowers have a very nice depth and each has a handmade stamen in the center.

Measurements: 26.1mm tall x 18.3mm across with a 3/32" hole. All my beads are digitally annealed for durability.

Fields of Green Lentil Glass Bead

This lentil shaped bead is really striking with it's shades of green; including some sparkling green adventurine glass. There are subtle vines wrapped over the core colors and I added violet colored flowers. When I made these beads, I make them round and then press them to make the lentil shape; this distorts the flowers. I've hesitated to list this bead because one flower is quite distorted but every time I look at the other side of the bead, I love it.

Dichroic Pansy Vessel

This is a really pretty vessel that I made during a "vessel" phase. Please note that it actually has a fairly small sized opening. I think I made it on a 5/32" mandrel so the hole is not much bigger than those of a regular bead. The hole does not go all the way through. I do have corks that fit this size hole and will include one or two with the vessel. I can direct you to a website with great instructions for making a wire wrapped collar to hang the vessel from and for making a stopper with the cork and your choice of findings and beads. The website owner has given me permission to send you there.

This vessel has a transparent sky-blue core which I wrapped in a blue-green, sparkling, dichroic glass. I added vines and little red accent flowers. The main flowers go all the way around the vessel and each one has handmade stamen cane in the center. The whole design is encased in a layer of clear glass.

Measurements: 43.1mm tall by 19.8mm across at the shoulder.

A little rose garden in a bead....no bugs, no blackspot, easy care :-)

Here is a bead with a violet core which is wrapped in sparkling goldstone which catches the light when the bead is moved. There are vines and three rose-like flowers along with small white flowers sprinkled around the bead.

Blue Striped Swirl Lentil Glass Bead

This is a lentil shaped bead which is a lavendar-blue color. I've swirled a multi-colored glass over the base bead and then I've "drawn" a flower onto the front of the bead with blue and black striped glass. For the stem I used a sparkling goldstone glass stem which I continued over to the back side of the bead.

Deep Purple and Red Encased Floral Bead

This barrel-shaped bead has a core made from a silky looking translucent white core. I've decorated the core with encased stinger in a scroll design. Over that layer, I added four large triple layer focal flowers, with crisp little bubbles in the center, which are a bluish-purple color that is hard to photograph. I think I've adjusted the colors to be representative. And I've added deep red accent flowers for interest.

The measurements: 30mm tall by 18mm across with a 3/32" hole. All my beads are digitally annealed for durability.

Bluebird Too

Here is another bird bead which is part of the flock I made after being inspired by an Audubon member who put a Bluebird house on a fence post along our pasture. I wanted to make something simple and happy. These are my "Bluebirds of Happiness" aka "Birds with Attitude".

Each Bluebird that I make is different. I've also started making my own version of a Chickadee and a purple/pink bird as well. I vary the wings and tail and really enjoy seeing how each one comes out.

Anyway, this Bluebird is 20.0 mm tall, 21.5 mm wide and 14.3 mm thick. The hole is 3/32". All my beads are digitally annealed for durability but give the beaks and tails a little special care.

Blue Bird of Happiness

I ended up making a whole flock of Birds of Happiness after being inspired by a visit from an Audubon member who was asking for permission to put a bird house on our property in the hope that it would provide housing for a Western Bluebird family. We gave permission but later it turned out that a pair of Tree Swallows moved into the house. For a while I got to enjoy the chirping of baby birds whenever I worked in my vegetable garden. They've already flown away. Maybe next year the Bluebird's will find the house first.

Anyway, while I thought about this icky economy and watched birds move around the yard, I decided to make Bluebirds of Happiness. Some of my friends call them "Birds with Attitude"....aka "Birds with Tude" because I have the beak pointing upward.

This bead is triangular in shape and is somewhat flattened. The bird design is on both sides of the bead. I've etched the glass to take away the shine and give it a softer look.

20.5 mm tall x 21.5 mm wide and 12.1 mm thick with a 3/32" hole. All my beads are digitally annealed for durability but take a little extra care with the beak and tail on this bead.

Fall Acorn Glass Bead

It's acorn season. Actually, it's always time for acorns if you love them and love them I do. I have real acorns that I've spray painted the caps with gold paint and wired them to hang from pretty ribbon on most all the door knobs of my dining room and kitchen cabinets. They hang there all year long. So of course I make and sell glass acorns and acorn vessels.

This is a simple glass acorn which looks really sweet when made into a pendant. The base is a rich brown transparent glass which I've etched to give it a less shiny look. The cap is still shiny and is made with multi-colored glass dots over dark brown opaque glass.

The measurements: 19.5mm tall by 15.7mm across with a 3/32" hole. All my beads are digitally annealed for durability.

Blue Iris Glass Floral Bead

This bead is called a "raised floral" bead. These are different from the encased beads that I also love to make because in this case it's left un-encased and has a lot of texture. When I make them, I am using my torch to "draw" on glass with glass. Before the bead is ever started, a lot of work goes into making the various glass threads (known as stringer) that I'll use for the vines and leaves and flower petals. The real fun begins when I get to start making the bead; then I use those stringers to decorate and draw on the bead.

This bead has a pinkish-purple core. I've decorated the core with swirls that vary from pale green to dark blue-green and purple. The raised flowers are made with blue and black striped glass and the stems and leaves are made from an opaque green and black striped glass.

The measurements: 39.7mm tall by 13mm across with a 3/32" hole. All my beads are digitally annealed for durability.

Warm Sunny Day
