The Wizard is an original (Not a reproduction!) art card that has been entirely pyroengraved (burned). He vanished after I created him in 2007 and has now been found!

It has a light coat of varnish to help protect it for many years to come. This card comes tucked in a clear, plastic sleeve.

This card is the required size of 2.5” x 3.5” (6.4cm x 8.9cm).

Once you receive it, you should be able to feel some of the indentations left by my burner. My signature is burned into the front of the card. Other important information is written on the back in acid-free, pigmented ink.

Strikingly handsome with a minnow's charm, Charlie is ready to take that big step into the world and would love to be adopted by you!

In the underwater world you would have to search long and hard to find him because he likes to hide among the neighboring Frog's eggs and is rarely seen because his scales blend so nicely with the eggs. In fact, some of frogs in the neighborhood have hired him to watch over their eggs while they go out to enjoy an evening sing-a-long with their friends on the lilly pads. He will keep watch over your home as well. :)

Charlie is about 3.75" long by 2.5" wide at widest part (9.5cm x 6.4cm)

He was painted with a variety of bright, vibrant acrylics. He was also given several coats of acrylic varnish for protection.

A Bit of the Past, Wall Decor

Step into the past with this gorgeous, curved, piece of etched driftwood. I took the symbols from petroglyphs found in Idaho and etched them into this piece.

The wood has been dyed with a rich, leather dye in Burgandy and Ox Blood colors. After I etched the designs into the wood, they were further enhanced with acrylics to make them stand out beautifully.

Another unique addition to this piece is a miniature gourd that I burned a design into and then adhered to the wood. There is a piece of the top of the gourd vase that I broke off and laid it next to the vase. The gourd and broken piece are securely adhered to the wood with wood putty and strong adhesive.

The entire piece is 24 1/8" long by maximum width of 8".

This piece will be mailed by Priority Mail due to size and weight.

Mystical Vision, Gourd Pendant

I made this pendant from a gourd shard and inlaid a piece of abalone shell. I used pearlescent green as the main color of the pendant, which sets off the abalone quite nicely. The design of the abalone looks like it was taken directly off of a cave painting which led me to add tiny petroglyph symbols around the pendant.

The shard's edges and back have been sanded smooth and the entire pendant has been sealed with several coats of polycrylic varnish for protection.

Skulls and Tiny Bones! What a great and whimsical way to mark where you left off reading your favorite book! Finally, no need to make dog ears in your favorite books! My bookmarks are less likely to be lost among your pages. They will not crease, bend, or tear.

This is a thin, handpainted, wooden bookmark that is about 7.75" long and 1" wide. (19.7cm x 2.5cm) It is customizable too! (see below)

Both sides are painted with the same designs. These are not made with stencils or drawn by pencil first, they are all handpainted by me from begining to end.

The background and designs were painted with fine art quality acrylics and the entire piece was given a several coats of a water-based, clear, gloss finish. My signature is painted on one side only.

Maple Leaf, Gourd Pendant

I first sketched this maple leaf onto a piece of gourd. Then it was carved and sanded before using pyrography to make the impressions of the leaf's veins. Coloring is leather dye and acrylics. This pendant has a beautiful gold shimmer!

Several coats of polycrylic varnish were applied for protection. A gold colored jump ring is attached.

This leaf is 1.5"(3.8cm)long by 1.5"(3.8cm) wide.

Telrunya is a protector and will keep evil spirits away. He was created out of a bottle gourd and has wooden spikes on top of his head.

Approx. 15.5" tall by 11" wide (39.4cm x 27.9cm)

The designs were pyroengraved and some etched into the surface. The coloring is made up of a combination of leather dye and acrylics. Several coats of varnish were applied on all surfaces.

Blue Ice is a gorgeous little vase that stands approximately 2.5" tall and is 2" wide (6.4cm by 5.1cm).

It started out as a miniature gourd that I carved, sanded, painted, and varnished into this beautiful little vase. Weight has been added to the inside, bottom of the vase so that it sits more sturdy.

This is a reproduction of my original Art Card, "Serendipity" on 140lb. watercolor paper. The original was done entirely by pyrography (burned), mostly by stippling. Light hints of color were applied with colored pencil. This card comes tucked in a clear, plastic sleeve.

This ACEO is the required size of 2.5” x 3.5” (6.4cm x 8.9cm).

My signature has been burned into the front of the card and also written in pigmented, acid-free ink. Other important information is written on the back in acid-free, pigmented ink.

Burning on paper is a very time intensive process. Some details require going back over them numerous times to darken without burning completely thru the paper itself.

Lobellia, Gourd Mask

Lobellia is a protector and will keep evil spirits away. He was created out of a bottle gourd, turkey and pheasant feathers, acrylics and leather dye.

Approx. 18.75" tall by 12" wide (47.6cm x 30.5cm)

The designs were pyroengraved (woodburned) and some etched into the surface of the mask. I stippled the very top of his head to create more of a shadowed appearance. His eyes and mouth have all been completely carved out. The coloring is made up of a combination of leather dye and acrylics. Several coats of varnish were applied on front and back.

Out back of the Twisted Thicket is a beautiful blue pond surrounded by green ferns and fragrant flowers. It is in the depths of the pond, beneath an old log, that Cindy lives.

She has beautiful pearlescent turquoise stripes on a pearlescent magenta colored stripe along her body, which is a very deep blue color. Her head is pearlescent green while all of her fins are a mixture of yellow and green.

She would like to get out and explore the world and would like to be adopted by YOU! She doesn't eat much, at least not while you are watching--she has to keep an eye on her girlish figure. ;) Like all of the fish that live in the pond in the thicket, she has trained herself to live on dry land! No need to put her in a bowl or tank full of water, in fact, please don't. She enjoys being dry.

Red Swirl, Gourd Vase

This gorgeous, rich colored gourd vase is uniquely shaped with the top hole off to one side.

I cut and shaved the outer shell in a swirling motion from the top hole to the very bottom. It has been stained a deep red color with leather dye and given several coats of varnish.

The vase is weighted and is meant to sit up against a flat surface, like a wall, as the side where the hole is, is flat.

This gourd is 3.75" tall by 4.5" wide (9.5cm x 11.4cm)

Dreams of Innocence, Gourd Art Vase

"Dreams of Innocence" shows what life inside the Twisted Thicket is like. This artful creation is what led me to name my business "Twisted Thicket Studio". This piece of art got it's name from the little girl that is shown resting on her elbows while she is lost in her daydreams which surround her.

"Dreams of Innocence" was created by envisioning characters and their surroundings in the mottling left in the gourd's shell after the mold from the drying process was removed. This end result is what gourd artists refer to as a "Vision Gourd". I am going to rework my five photos here to include one collage of this gourd as it was in progress.

I sketched the characters I saw, onto the shell, then pyroengraved them using a variety of pyrography techniques. Coloring was applied by a combination of colored pencil, pigmented inks, and acrylics. Varnish was applied to bring out the intense colors and provide long-lasting protection both inside and out. This gourd was a very time-intensive creation taking over 1500 hours from raw, uncleaned gourd to the finished vessel.

The knotting is a hand-tied stitch that goes around the entire top lip of the vase. It has also been sealed with varnish.

This gourd vase is not recommended for standing water. Please, if you would like to put a floral arrangement in this vase, use ONLY dried flowers.

This gourd has been on display in the IceHouse Gallery in Kentucky during the fall 2006.

Symphony, Gourd Bowl

Symphony is a beautiful, little bit odd-shaped, gourd bowl that has four distinct movements, as in a symphony, which is how it got its name. In fact, this piece was created while listening to one of my Tchaikovsky cd's.

The movements are all tied together by the "beat". In this case, the "beat" is composed of pyroengraved hatch marks that carry thruout the piece. The ribbon represents the flow of the music, while the other elements represent the intensity.

All of the elements in this piece are pyroengraved. Coloring is a combination of colored pencil and acrylics.

It is approximately 5.5" high x 7" wide (14cm x 17.8cm).

This colorful bowl is 5.5" tall x 17.25" diameter (14cm x 43.8cm diameter).

After sketching the main design onto the gourd, I pyroengraved everything right down to the last detail. Colored pencils, watercolor, and acrylics were used to enhance the gourd even more.

This beautiful gourd vase will add a fabulous touch to your room. Not meant for standing water, it is perfect with a dried floral arrangement or even to stand alone.

I created this vase out of a bottle gourd by first cutting, cleaning, and sanding the inside. The outer design was created first by pyroengraving (burning)the details onto the gourd. transparent acrylics, colored pencil, leather dye, and acrylics were used for coloring.
