In Japan May 5 is Boy's Day (or Tango-no-Sekku). Traditionally this was the day that sons in a family were celebrated. Streamers in the shape of carp called koinobori are flown above houses as a symbol of healthy, strong children.

This is a sweet print of an original acrylic and enamel painting. Brightly colored Shou Xing smiles out from a peach in front of a shaded background of blues and greens while clouds drift above. Remember that your monitor may show the colors differently.

Shou Xing is the Chinese God of Longevity. He's usually shown with a huge lumpy forehead, carrying the peach of immortality in one hand and a walking stick with a gourd full of the water of life in the other. Here Shou Xing ~is~ a peach. So I suppose this stands for super, super longevity!

Copper Chrysanthemum Japanese Belt Buckle. KIKU.

This KIKU belt buckle is made from resin cast in a hand carved, reverse painted mold. At almost 3.5 inches wide, 3.25 inches tall and .75 inch thick this buckle is intricately and deeply carved into Japanese styled chrysanthemum. A steel buckle plate is embedded in the back.

Shades of metallic copper, russet and beige color this chrysanthemum while the leaf is a pale sheer green. The colors are bonded into ivory resin and after being topped with a clear coat Lt. Siam Crystal Swarovski rhinestones were added for a little sparkle.

This buckle has a Japanese girl with big green eyes in a green and orange kimono over a background of multiple shades of pale green. The highlight though is her fancy, fancy hair! This is a really long, thin, cheery print. It features a minogame. Minogame are legendary Japanese turtles that, upon reaching 10,000 years old, grow a long hairy looking tail. They're symbols of luck and long life. Here a cute little minogame swims across a background of a bright butter yellow, dark olive and mottled grass green. He's surrounded by blue cherry blossoms, dark purple balloon flowers, peach colored plum blossoms and dark, shiny bamboo leaves. This print shows a beautiful Heian era girl. She's wears a multi-layered juni-hitoe outfit and looks back over her shoulder, her long black hair pooling behind her. The Heian era (792-1192) is seen as a "Golden Age" in Japanese history, a time when there was a focus in the court on art, literature and poetry. This piece is named after a list in Sei Shōnagon's "The Pillow Book" which was written during that time. From an original acrylic and paper collage.

This pretty necklace features a porcelain lotus pendant in a beautiful deep peach. The intricate carving on this flower is emphasized by the soft breaking of the glaze. In the deeper crevices of the design are bubbles that are accented by a pale lavender color. Pretty! The lotus is often used in Buddhist art because it grows out of the mud, toward the sun, in a clean, pure state.

Each pendant is formed in a hand carved mold. After removal from the mold it is then over carved and shaped for wonderful detail.

It measures approximately 2 inches across on a 18 inch sterling silver chain from a handmade sterling bail. The clasp is a tiny, super strong silver plated magnet which makes it very easy to put on and take off. Handy!

Green and yellow ginkgo leaves hang over the edge of this simple buckle. The green metallic background has a nice shimmer. Pretty!

This pretty necklace features a porcelain kikyo pendant in a beautiful soft green glaze. In the deepest parts of the piece it swirls to a pale blue. The intricate carving on this flower is emphasized by the soft breaking and color change of the glaze. Bellflower is one of the 7 autumn flowers in Japan and is the flower maiko (apprentice geisha) wear in their hair in September.

This is a sleek reproduction of an original acrylic and enamel painting. A pretty Yuki Onna stands in front of a gray background. She stares over her shoulder with pale blue eyes, her long black hair is partially blowing in the wind and partly up with blue and white kanzashi.

The Yuki Onna (Snow Woman) is a spirit from Japanese folklore. A beautiful lady with long hair and cold eyes she is associated with winter and snow storms. She appears to people traveling or lost in the snow and might freeze them with her breath or lead them astray to die of exposure.

This is a dreamy reproduction of an original acrylic and enamel painting. A stylized crane flies above a softly colored background of purples and grays, surrounded by cherry blossoms and chrysanthemums. Remember that your monitor may show the colors differently.

Cranes are traditional Japanese symbols of good fortune and longevity because of its fabled life span of a thousand years. It also represents loyalty, as Japanese cranes mate for life. The imagery here is loosely based on a wedding kimono from the 1920's.

Printed with pigment ink on a 11" x 8.5" sheet of lovely, thick, fine art paper with a light texture. The image is 8 1/4" x 2 11/16" with a white border for framing. It can be easily trimmed to fit into your own standard sized frame. Signed, titled and dated in pencil on the front, under the image, unless otherwise requested.

This pretty necklace features a porcelain minogame pendant in blue. The intricate carving on this turtle is emphasized by the soft breaking of the glaze. Minogame are legendary Japanese turtles that, upon reaching 10,000 years old, grow a long hairy looking tail. They're symbols of luck and long life.

Each pendant is formed in a hand carved mold. After removal from the mold it is then over carved and shaped for wonderful detail.

It measures approximately 3 inches at its longest and widest points and hangs on a 16 inch sterling silver chain from a handmade sterling bail. The clasp is a tiny, super strong silver plated magnet which makes it very easy to put on and take off. Handy!
