Into the Blue Sky Fused Glass Plate

This dreamy plate starts with swirly brown glass and moves into a lake of white with a curvy edge, from which rises a mountain range of black. A bank of fluffy white clouds floats over the mountains, above which the blue sky is streaked with wispy clouds.

Fused flat, cold-worked for crisp, square edges, then slumped in the kiln into a gentle curve, this plate has been slowly annealed for strength and long life. It's food-safe, and hand washing is recommended.

The plate is 7.75 inches square and curves gently up from a flat center.

I form my glass squiggles by hand in a candle flame, then meticulously polish the resulting soot out of every twist and turn. This one has been tack fused along with two dichroic dots onto a base of glittery green. Tack fusing leaves the squiggle and the dots raised above the surface of the glittery glass.
